7:00AM

Saw a couple of Golfinches in my front
flower bed eating my Zinnias.
This appears to be a couple
males due to their bright colors.
Female Goldfinches are a brownish
yellow.
This is the reason I love Zinnias.
They attract a lot of birds
and butterflies.

Need to do more laundry today and
and wash bedding.
Dreading having to put it all away.

Want to get boys bedrooms tidied up
and ready for back to school in
2 weeks.

Need energy at the moment.
It's gonna be hot and miserable
out today. Heat index around 100 degrees.

Ahhh, everywhere I look there is
something to do or clean.
It would be nice to go to four
basic walls and basic furniture
in this place.
Nothing for kids to tear out!

Sitting here having some lunch and
watching the storm roll through.

Was tinkering with some photos
of how to do the fence.
I would like to stair step some
of the boards around the sloped
area. By doing the photos I could
get a visual of what it would look
like. No the fence will not be straight
due to the slopes but it should be even
and the same height all the way around
the corner.

Well the internet and phone isn't
working too well. Just makes ya
wanna grit teeth when things
don't load, grrrrr!!

I don't know if it was from the
storm that rolled through
or if I bumped the modem
causing it to go out.

Been working on getting clothes
put away. Not one of my favorite
things to do. I'm short hangers
due to kids ripping clothes

Vitaminwater revealed as non-healthy beverage by Coca-Cola's own lawyers

If Vitaminwater were accurately named, it would actually be called Sugarwater. Its first two ingredients are, not surprisingly, sugar and water (the sugar coming in the form of crystalline fructose, a processed sweetener that has been linked to health problems)

How much sugar is actually in Vitaminwater? A lot more than you might think: While the label claims only 13 grams of sugar per serving, one bottle of vitamin water is actually 2.5 servings, meaning that you're chugging down 32 grams of liquid sugars with every bottle.

In addition to the sugar and water, Vitaminwater contains a smattering of synthetic vitamin chemicals that any informed health consumer probably wouldn't want to ingest. So in reality, Vitaminwater is really sugar water with the addition of synthetic chemicals that happen to be called "vitamins" (but which are not the natural, plant-based nutrients your body would greatly prefer).

Gonna keep a running list

school clothes for the kids.
I searched these items online.

Old Navy Jeans $19

Hunting T-Shirt $10

Long Sleeve Basic Editions Polo $15

Total saved so far: $44

gonna have to take it all down due

Who would have ever thought we
would have radar at our fingertips

And that's another thing that pisses me off...

I was looking over a letter from our
health insurance company explaining
benefits from a recent doctor's visit
Tony had.

What I don't, and never will understand,
is why when a person doesn't have insurance
and has to self pay is the cost cheaper
compared to when you have insurance.

What I am trying to say is the doctors
will charge the insurance company
outrageous amounts compared to what
self paying people would pay.
It's a no wonder our insurance costs
are so high!!

For example Tony's recent visit to the
family doctor was for some blood work
and a urine sample test.
Between the doctor's
visit and the laboratory blood and urine
work the total cost they charged the
insurance company was $880!!
That is crazy if you ask me.

I was telling Tony of our trash truck
that's been coming around for the past
2 weeks. I said a lot of people would
be pissed of if this thing rolled
through about 6am due to it's
hideous noise it makes. Tony says
but all trash trucks are loud.
I said, oh no, this trash truck
has got them all beat when it comes
to making noise. It squeals, groans
and moans and can be heard streets
away! He didn't believe me til
I showed him the video.
Turn up your speakers to hear this
thing!!
In the beginning you can hear it
coming up the street before
it gets in camera view.
Have you ever seen Transformers
the movie? Well I was waiting
for this truck to transform into
a monster of some sort, LOL!

10:30AM

Got the first load of laundry done
and hung out to dry.

Jonathan has a friend over playing
video games. I think it's too
early for this!

Chased the cat around the yard
on two occasions with her getting out.
Now listening to the melody of
MEOW, MEOW, MEOW, MEOW, MEOW!!!
Like someone poking me in my
head with a finger constantly!!!
Eyes are starting to twitch.
Considering shaken cat syndrome!!

Mom stopped by on her way to Meijers
to drop of some coupons. I'm
having her pick up some celery
for me. Maybe this afternoon I can
start chopping celery and bell peppers
for the freezer.

Found a blanket I washed up and have
hanging on the line. It is a double
sided blanket. I think since I can't
find anymore bean bag stuffing I will
use what I have and cut open one end
of this blanket and fill it with
these styrofoam marshmallows.
Knowing my luck the dog will try to take
it over and use it as her bed.
Because my kids like to throw blankets
and pillows on the floor.
I don't like dogs nor cats on my blankets,
clothes, furniture or beds!
Makes me itchy!!

Going to bang head on wall if
this freakin cat don't shut up.
Going to get a water bottle
to spray it's ass with!!!

_________________________________

11:15AM

Now that's what I'm talking about!
I filled my one blanket with the
stuffing from a bean bag chair.
I love the way it contours around
the body, not hard like memory foam.

I still want to make
a baffled box style mattress topper.
But for now at least all these
styrofoam pieces are contained in
something and not blowing all around
this place! Hoping to possibly
find some bean bag chairs at move
out time to do my project.
But for now I can use this blanket
like a body pillow.

According to these statistic below
it looks like I am below average.
Which in this case is a good thing
because I am all about saving money!

I couldn't imagine living like
the average American spending this
kind of money!!

Way to go on all those mom's and dad's
spending all that money on college students!!
If they only knew how much of that stuff
they threw out a year later for me to
scoop up for free, they'd probably freak!!
But then again if you have that kind
of money to throw away, I'm sure they
don't care.

* The average American family will spend $606.40 on clothes, shoes, supplies and electronics, compared to $548.72 last year.

* The average family of school-aged children is expected to spend $225.47 on clothing and $102.93 on shoes. An average of $181.60 is expected to be spent on electronic or computer-related school needs and $96.39 on school supplies.

* What about college? The average college student's family will spend $616.13 on new apparel, furniture for dorms or apartments, school supplies, and electronics.

* Back-to-school spending (combined K-12 and college) will reach $55.12 billion, making it the second biggest consumer spending event for retailers behind the winter holidays!

No need to buy a gun for protection,
get a can of wasp spray!!

Never thought about this before but important to know!

Subject: Wasp Spray

I know some of you own GUNS but this is something to think about...---

If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's
evil plans for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought
of it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.

Wasp Spray - A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk
area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob
them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police
department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she
get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a
lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too
close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds
an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a
can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from
people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at
home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of
use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in
Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High
School . For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet
spray near your door or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than
mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if
someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in
the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades.

It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for
protection, Glinka says look to the spray. "That's going to give you a
chance to call the police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.

------------------

I was reading on Snopes.com about
using the Wasp spray as self defense.
Get this, they say it is ILLEGAL
in many jurisdictions to use it.
It also states on the spray bottle
that if you use it in a manner that
is inconsistent with its labeling
it is a violation of federal law.

Ok I can see not carrying a can
of wasp spray around in your purse
or dangling from your key chain
like mace (lol). But if an illegal
burglar is going to illegally break into
my house to illegally harm someone or
illegally steal items, then hell yeah
I'm gonna consider that can of
wasp spray to illegally spray them with!!

Cleaned out the crap from the back yard
and around the shed. Got a truck full
of stuff dumped. Yard looks so much nicer.

Stopped in McDonalds for supper.
I told the cashier I wanted it
to go. She started putting it
on a tray. That's when I checked my
receipt and she charged me $1.00 sales
tax to eat in. The manager had to
come over for the cashier to get
in the drawer for my refund.
She didn't seem too pleased
to give me my $1.00 back.

What happened to places treating
the customer nicely and the saying,
the customer comes first.
I'm having a hard time seeing
that anywhere now a days!

------------------------

See what my honey found for
me today. Someone moved
out and left a nice tote
with lid full of this stuff
inside (full bottles!)
towel, scale, Windex, Starch,
Dreft, Greenworks cleaner &
Purex laundry soap.

Tony wanted to know ahead of time
when we start DDn what we were looking
for. I said men's small clothes,
food and cleaning supplies. And of
course whatever school supplies
and bookbags we can find.
You never know what you will find
but that's a start of what we
will look for along with a few
other items for friends and family.

Will drive by UV this coming weekend
to see how it's going. Not sure
what day as Mopar Nationals will
be in town. So either Friday or
Saturday we will be in Reynoldsburg
checking out all the old Mopars.

8-8-10

7:55AM

Got up at 7:30. Getting everyone ready
to head out to the flea market on the
South end.

10:50AM

Just returned from flea market,
gas station to get gas for lawn
mower.

Got Jonathan a game for his
hand held game system for a buck.

I also found me a VERY GOOD DEAL
on homegrown green bell peppers.
They had them $1.00 a bag.
I got 2 bags for a total of 15 peppers.
Anyone price bell peppers at stores?
The last I saw the other day at Kroger
they were $1.67 EACH on sale!!

These peppers would have cost me
$25.05 if I had bought them from Kroger.
So I saved $23.05!!!

Tomorrow I'll start cutting them up,
blanching them and get them ready
for the freezer.
That reminds me. I need to pick
up some celery also to do up for
the freezer.

I try to buy vegetables when they
are in season and on sale then
freeze them for soups, casseroles,
omletes, hash and what not.

11:00AM

Tony's weed whipping the yard.
Kendra is supposed to come over
so we can go to Lowes to pick up
fence panels and cement.
Then once back home we are
edging the sidewalks and mowing
the grass.
Sometime today Tony wants to work
on putting the shifter cable on the car.
Then we told the kids we would
take them to the pool this afternoon.
Also need to stop by Kroger
for Tony's prescription, get some
Ibuprofen and carpet fresh.

Don't weekends sound fun around here.
Constantly on the move doing something.
AHHHHHH!!

________________________________________

1:00PM

Just back from Lowes. Why does it seem
every time I go to purchase things from
a place like Lowes they act like they've
never sold these things before???

For starters the cashier couldn't
find the fence posts listed to ring
them up. I had to go outside where
they were located and get an item
number from them so they could be rung
up. They had a price sticker of
$26.97 on them. When they punched
in the item number they rang up as
$20.97!! So I save about $42 unexpectedly today!!
YEAHHHHHHH!!

So far we have spent $301 on this fence.
That includes labor and parts.

Still need about 2 more fence panels,
4 more posts and about 1 bag of concrete.
Oh also some hinges and a couple wheels
for the gate to roll across the driveway.
Maybe we won't need them. I just worry
about the stress on the hinges.

_________________________________

2:00PM

Tony mowed front and side yard.
Got the front walk trimmed.

Chilling at the moment then will
head off to go swimming at Tony's
work then to Kroger after that.

2:30PM

Well I need to find everyone's
swimsuit and dig out some floaties
for the pool. Of course they are
in a bottom tote out in the shed.
Then use what's left of my breath
for today to blow all these floaties
up. Sometimes I cheat and pinch
the air intake part and use a hair
dryer on the cool setting to inflate!

Dragging my butt out to shed.
Feel so worn out already!

_____________________________________

7:15PM

Just back from the pool. I don't know
what it is about swimming that wears you
out.

After swimming we stopped in Kroger
to get Tony's prescription. While
there I picked up a FREE dozen eggs,
FREE Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh brown
sugar ham, a baked pie for $1.29
and a loaf of cinnamon swirl bread $1.49

I saw that cinnamon swirl bread and immediately
knew what I wanted to make with it.
Tomorrow for breakfast we're having
cinnamon swirl french bread stuffed
with cream cheese then rolled in crushed
up corn flake cereal.

8:00PM

Tony finished cutting and weed whipping the
back yard. It is all done for another week.

Never got around to putting the shifter
cable in the car today.

I gave the cat a bath with the Dawn
dish soap. That didn't go too bad.
Then after giving her a bath she decided
to give herself one, go figure.
Guess I got all her hairs outta place
and she was putting them back to her
satisfaction.

9:00PM

Time to chill for the evening.
I never got a sales bag on my door
til later on this evening.
It used to come first thing
Saturday morning. They are slacking!
That's what I looked forward to
upon waking up on Saturdays.
Haven't looked at the Dispatch
either so think I'll jump off here
and do that before going to bed.

Tomorrow I'm taking the boys to the
library. I have a reserved book
that came in about Vitamin D.
I also have laundry to do, oh goodie.
It's supposed to be a hot week
in the 90's so shouldn't take the
laundry no time to dry.

Saturday, August 7, 2010

8-7-10

9:45AM

Weekends, or at least one day on the
weekend, should be made for sleeping in.

We slept in til 9:30 this morning
when mom called. She must of
been out to yard sales because
she was telling me where some were at.
Then at 9:45AM we had the front door
cracked open and I kept seeing a head
go by the door. The neighbor kids
from across the street are over in our
yard. That's unusual. The kids are around
6,7 and 2. Why would the dad allow them
to come over here that early. Heck
we are just rolling out of bed!

Our plans for this weekend include
swimming, fishing and getting another
shifter cable on the red Trans Am.
The last one wasn't the right size
and had to return it to the store.
If this recent one doesn't fit then
we will have to go with a whole
new shifter and cable. Don't ask
the cost of that if we go that route.
Compared to just the cable it
cost 6-7 times more!
Also sometime this weekend our friend
Kendra will be over with a large
pickup to help go get our fence
panels for the yard. We're looking
at Thursday for getting the cement put in
around the posts. Then probably
next weekend to put up the panels.
Then work on digging holes, putting
in posts and panels by the drive way.

I can't wait. Meaning I've wanted this
for awhile now. We're tired of supplying
the lil hooligans with free bicycles
around here from our yard.
Plus it will be sooo nice to just let
the dog outside without putting her
on a cable and having to untangle
that sucker from around poles, cars
and whatever else is in the yard
that the dog winds around.
Let me tell ya, dogs cannot go
a straight line and come back
a straight line!

10:20AM

Well Tony and the boys went
in search of a donation drop
box to drop off some stuff out
of the basement. The boys
hauled out 4 tote fulls yesterday.
Then will load
up the truck with fishing gear
and head out. Not quite sure
where we are going but heard
Deer Creek get mentioned.
That seems a little ways out
there if you ask me. Wish
we could find something closer.
Driving too much makes me
tired. Deer Creek is South
of Mount Sterling off of 71S.

______________________________

3:45PM

Just returned home. We ended up
going to Alum Creek instead.

I caught a Carp about the length
of my arm. Tony and the boys
caught Blue Gills.

Currently working on supper.
Making Sausage Biscuits & Gravy.

Fried up a pound of sausage, drained.
In a travel cup with lid I added 3
Tablespoons flour, season salt, onion
powder, pepper, chicken boullion
and 2 packets chicken gravy mix.
I then added water and closed
lid and shook really good.
Over medium heat I poured the gravy mixture
over the sausage. Stirring constantly as
the gravy thickens
Add more milk to make just the right
consistancy. I usually add in some
Velveeta cheese but that seemed to
of disappeared from the fridge.

After supper might work on getting
the yard mowed. Wearing down already.

______________________________________

Hey if anyone goes to any yard sales
or thrift stores.
I am looking for bean bag chairs.
Preferably the ones with the microbead
polystyrene beads in them.

Looking for
them for just the stuffing beads inside
for a project. I won't pay more
than $2.00 for a regular sized beanbag
chair.
I want to make a mattress topper out of them.
I have a couple bean bags chairs now
but the styrofoam in them look like
mini marshmallows.

Have you ever tried a feather bed? The
feathers get lumpy over time or start
poking up through the fabric poking you.
I've tried the memory foam toppers
and would like something a little softer.
I've sampled a few beds in the stores
with the memory foam mattresses and they
are too hard. I thought of this idea
a long time ago and never have been
able to make it.

Would like to do a baffled box microbead
topper. Would look something like this
below but filled with styrofoam beads instead
of fluff or feathers.
I figure I could take a bunch of pillowcases,
sew a line in the middle of them.
Cut open the other end. Sew them all in
5x2 strips, keeping ends open.
Then start filling with beads
and sew the edges shut. Will attach
two of the 5x2 strips together if I
have to sew by hand.

6:30PM

Still have not accomplished anything
other than supper since we've returned
home.
Been watching Parent Trap and
Princess Diaries on TV.
Mean Girls is on next (abc family).

Was having a sweet tooth.
Discovered that left over biscuits
with Nutella on the top was soo
yummy!

11:30AM

Yard sales sucked. Found a few
but bought nothing. Mom found
a few things though.

Mom bought us Arby's for lunch.
Had coupons for $2.00 subs.

Then stopped in Kroger for some
pop, lettuce and milk.

Tonight's supper will be BLT
sandwiches. I have a Beefsteak
tomato I have been wanting to use
up and this sounded really good.

Yesterday we took a truckload
of crap over to Tony's work
and dumped it. Found a little
bag next to the dumpster with
these items in it for the boys.

4 pairs socks (I myself needed socks.
boys already got new socks, free
from Meijer)

1 pair of Old Navy Jeans
(don't fit me so may see if Christopher
can wear them. Might have to hem up.
size 32x30)

t-shirt for Christopher

long sleeve shirt for Christopher

tablet of paper

Not much but things I can use.

I have been soooo tired today.
This afternoon I dozed off and my kids,
at least I think they were my kids,
went down in the basement and cleaned up
half of it!! I am still in shock!!
How they managed to do that without
being told or without fighting
with one another is beyond me!!

Well I am off here for now.
Might take the kids to get
a slushie and go to a park
or something since they've been
so good.
Did those words actually come out
of my mouth??????
Maybe I'm still dreaming or something.
Gonna go pinch myself.

I thought I would put a few pet tips
I read about here.
Homemade Pet Remedies

Save your money on flea shampoo -
Use plain old blue original Dawn dish soap-
works great!!!
DO NOT wash your pet with the Dawn more than once a week and finish with a conditioner so not to strip the natural oils of your pets coat.

------------------

Use Dawn dishsoap in steam cleaners
to rid fleas in carpet.

------------------

spritzed with peppermint or lavender oil, which help repel fleas and ticks.
Use Avon's Skin So Soft and mist on coat to repel fleas.

--------------------

before you vacuum put a
piece of a dog collar in the canister or vacuum bag. When you empty out the
vacuum make sure you put it in a double plastic grocery bag and then put it
in your garbage can.

--------------------

Fleas in your house-
Salt all over the house will kill fleas as will borax or baking soda. I use salt under sheets on carpet, etc.

make a mixture of lukewarm water and apple cider vinegar in a big pour jug. I put 1/2 cup of the vinegar into the jug and then filled it with lukewarm water. I set that aside within my reach in the bathroom where I was washing kitty. I filled the tub with luke warm water enough to wash the kitten in.

I took the Blue Dawn Dishwashing liquid and before getting kitty wet I placed a ring of it around her neck and rubbed it in. I did this to prevent the fleas from scurrying to her head when I put kitty in the water and that's where the fleas will run to. But by putting the ring of Dawn around her neck this prevented the fleas from scurrying to her head. I then got kitty wet and placed the Dawn directly onto her and worked up a good lather. I washed her for a good 10 minutes. You wouldn't believe the amount of fleas that fell off her and they were dead fleas.

The Dawn worked to kill the fleas. After 10 minutes of lathering her I took a very fine tooth comb and ran it through her to get the remaining fleas off her. They were all dead. Then I rinsed her with clean lukewarm water. After I rinsed her I took the Apple Cider and water I had mixed in the jug and slowly poured it all over kitty to ensure I got every part of her except her eye area, nose area and the inside of her ears. I did not rinse the Apple Cider Vinegar off her. This formula helps to repel the fleas. They dislike the scent of Apple Cider Vinegar. I also put a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in her drinking water to also assist in repelling fleas.

If fleas are a problem for your pet, wash them with Dawn dishwashing soap. It kills them instantly. Leaving a small nightlight on during the night will draw fleas. Just put a small bowl of Dawn under the light and they will jump in.

Other uses for Dawn Dish Soap

Which company owns Dawn?

Dawn was created by Procter & Gamble® (P&G) in 1973. P&G is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio and provides products and services of superior quality and value to consumers in over 80 countries worldwide.

Clean on the Cheap: A 14 oz bottle of Dawn costs about $1. Even if you use an ounce per month–unlikely if you’re diluting a few drops in a spray bottle–you’ll get more than a year’s worth of clean for less than ten cents a month.

Dawn in Your First Aid Kit?

-ICE PACK.
Partially fill a strong zip-type sandwich bag with Dawn dishwashing liquid, close and freeze. Just to be safe, double bag it. Freeze. The liquid soap stays cold much longer and it can be re-frozen many times. It will conform to the place you need an ice pack.

- Wash That Driveway

While there are many chemical solvents and degreasers on the market, most of these are not biodegradable, but Dawn dishwashing detergent is. If you have gasoline or motor oil stains on your driveway, you can use the kitty litter method to clean up the excess oil and then use a solution of Dawn dishwashing detergent and warm water to effectively remove excess motor oil from the pavement. Using a scrub broom and a little bit of muscle power, and your driveway will be once again oil-stain-free.

-Soak your Tools

After you have finished your automotive repair project, what are you going to do with those dirty tools? Well, you can soak them in a solution of Dawn dishwashing detergent before you put them away to remove all the oil and grime from them. Apparently, many mechanics also claim that using Dawn dishwashing detergent also helps prevent rust from forming on the tools.

-Laundry

Try Dawn on your next greasy stain in place of your favorite pretreater–you may be surprised by the great results! Note: if you use a HE (High Efficiency) machine, wipe the Dawn away before washing–you may produce more bubbles than your machine can handle.

-HAND DEGREASER

Forget those pricey automotive hand cleaners. Full strength blue Dawn Dishwashing Liquid cuts through grease and gets hands and nails clean with no harsh chemicals.

-REPEL ANTS

Spray countertops, cupboards and any other area where you see ants with a solution of Dawn and water. Wipe dry. The slight residue of Dawn that remains will not be a problem at all for kids or pets, but ants hate it. Should you see a trail of ants, go ahead and hit them with the Dawn spray. You'll see. It will kill them.

-BATHROOM CLEANER

Original blue Dawn Dishwashing Liquid has some kind of miraculous quality about it that makes it "melt" through stubborn soap scum and hideous build-up on showers and tubs, no matter whether porcelain, acrylic or fiberglass. Use it straight up and you'll bless the day you read this column.

-HAIR PRODUCT BUILDUP

Once a month use original Dawn as you would shampoo. It will remove excess oil from your hair and scalp and strip away any build-up of styling products without any damage. Perform this once a month and you won't have to buy expensive salon products that do the same thing.
