Enfamil Gentlease Lipil Powder - 24 oz can

--------------------------------------

No on call pager today or tomorrow for
my hubby. Thank goodness.
He worked 2 days for another guy
who was on call about a month ago
when that guy was sick
and now it's this guys turn to make up
for those two days.
Then hubby will have it Fri-Sun
and won't have it again for another month.
Will take advantage of the moment
and go to Kmart this eve to see about
those gloves! And pick up some prescriptions
from Kroger for Tony.
As for prescriptions, I have not taken mine yet
for helping stop smoking. I'm thinking
about doing it starting the beginning of the year
and letting the holidays go by first :0)
Because with these meds come the possible side effects of suicidal thoughts and increased anxiety.
Not something I need at the moment during the
holidays!! So will wait til a not so stressful time
to do this!

-------------------------------------

9:40am

Just completed something I'll call
Minty Marshmallow Mounds
since it is something I made up.
1- 6 ounce box of peppermint patties
1 cup chocolate chips (or 2 chocolate bark blocks)
2 Tablespoons shortening
2-3 cups cocoa krispies
2-3 cups mini marshmallows

Over low heat melt peppermint patties,
chocolate chips & shortening in saucepan.
Stir in cocoa krispies until well coated
then stir in marshmallows.
Continue stirring over low heat until
marshmallows start to melt but not completely.

Scoop by tablespoonfuls onto cookies
sheets lined with wax paper.
Allow to sit until chocolate hardens.
Makes about 41.
-------------------------------------------------

10:40am

Hand dipped 170 pretzel nuggets
in chocolate and then sprinkled with colored sugar.

Winter starts next week!

Weather predictions from the Farmer's Almanac
for the Midwest & Great Lakes region.

December 2010
12th-15th. Stormy.
16th-19th. Dry, turning colder.
20th-23rd. Light snow east through Ohio River Valley, then becoming fair.
24th-27th. Fair, cold for Christmas.
28th-31st. Some snow showers, flurries.

January 2011
1st-3rd. Fair, followed by increasing clouds.
4th-7th. Stormy, with periods of snow for Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio; a wintry mix (snow, sleet, rain) for Kentucky.
8th-11th. Fair, turning colder.
12th-15th. Unsettled, with chilly winds.
16th-19th. Snowstorm

.
20th-23rd. Stormy conditions exit, followed by clearing.
24th-27th. Another round of snow.
28th-31st. Generally fair.

February 2011
1st-3rd. Very unsettled weather Kentucky up through the Great Lakes.
4th-7th. Becoming fair and much colder across the Midwest.
8th-11th. Snow for Ohio River north.

Old Man Winter will exhibit a “split personality” throughout North America. Over the coming months, along the East Coast, from the Canadian Maritimes down to Florida and as far west as the lower Ohio River and Mississippi River Valley, is expected to experience colder-than-normal winter temperatures.

Meanwhile, for the western states and provinces, milder-than-normal winter temperatures are expected, from the Pacific Coast inland as far as the Rockies and the western Great Plains. Near the center of the continent, in the American Midwest, Saskatchewan, and parts of Alberta and Manitoba, look for near-normal winter temperatures, with average amounts of cold and snow.

All things considered, when comparisons to last year are made, we believe that for most, it will turn out to be a “kinder and gentler” winter overall.

11:45am

Got the graham toffee brittle all broke up
into pieces.
The cookies/candy I did this morning
got all zip bagged up and put into the gift bags.
Whew! I'm done with baking for
the moment til later on this evening.
-----------------------------------------

26 pages of printable coupons!

I've been printing and collecting tons of those chocolate,
candy, baking & candles (like Glade) coupons.
Those items are due to go on sale at least 50%
or more after Christmas.
Add in some of these coupons for even
better deals!!
I keep them all in an envelope in my purse
and mark on the outside of the envelope all
the coupons that are inside.
That way I have them with me wherever I shop
and see the mark downs.

There's also a coupon or two for $5.00 off
Enfamil Premium for infants & Toddlers.

Also watch for some toys to go on sale
after Christmas for 50% off.
Christopher's birthday is less than two weeks
after Christmas. We take him out to pick out a
toy he wants and give him $20 to $25 for
his birthday. We usually find toys that are
$40 to $50 marked down half price to $20-$25 from
Christmas!!

DOLLAR GENERAL COUPON
COUPONS THIS WEEK'S AD FIND A STORE

I told ya yesterday they have a sale this week
on Fall/Winter Apparel buy 1 get 1 50% off.
So with this coupon you could save even more!

------------------------------------------

Just go here to print a coupon good for $10 off a $20 or more purchase of apparel and accessories (including sale and clearance items!). This is valid in-store only, 12/15-12/16.

-------------------------------------------------

8:35pm

Took everyone out for supper at McDonalds
with the buy 1 get 1 coupons we got this week.
My kitchen is wiped out from baking so figured
we'd eat out tonight, lol.

Stopped in Kroger afterwards.
Had to wait on a prescription so we walked around
the store. We ran into our butcher friend who was
out by the hams. He marked down
a 6.97 pound ham for me.
He knows when I'm there that I shop
for those manager special meats.
reg. price $15.26 @ $2.19 a pound
sale price $7.53 @ .88 cents a pound
and I got it for $4.53 or .63 cents a pound!
Then we head to the checkout.
The cashier told us we might want to find
another lane because the lady he was checking
out had forgot her purse and had to run
home to get it! And I'm thinking he's holding
her groceries at the checkout while she goes home????

From there we went to Kmart. That was fun trying on
gloves with the kids and was about like shoe shopping, ahhh!
I got each kid a nice pair of gloves and a ski
mask hat for 50% off. Still was a little expensive
for my budget but I wanted them to have some
warm Winter attire.
$8 ski hats were $4.00 each and
$17 gloves were $8.50 each.
And of course all this stuffed looked like
it had been ransacked by other people.
We get up to the checkout and there are
only 2 lanes open and about 1o people in
each lane. It's been like this the last couple
of times we've been there. You would think
during Christmas time there would be more
checkouts open. We finally went over
to the service desk and checked out!
----------------------------------------------

Anyone needing that Enfamil Premium for
Toddlers that I posted a $5.00 coupon for above?
I saw some large cans in the markdown
bin at Kroger on Henderson for $10
with coupon would make it $5.00!!

---------------------------------

I saw this on thethriftycouples site.

10:45pm

Just made some rice krispies peppermint bark.
I melted some white chips and/or white bark chocolate
and stirred in rice krispies cereal. Then stirred in broken
up peppermints. Pressed into a jelly roll pan
then sprinkled red sugar on top.
Will let this sit overnight to harden.

12-14-10

6:15am

Rise and shine a little earlier this morning.
My honey had to go into work early
to plow and salt the roads/parking lot.
Made the kids some chocolate chip muffins
with cream cheese frosting drizzle this morning.

-----------------------------------------

Was browsing a few recipes for ham.
Last year I did the orange marmalade glaze
and wanted something different this year.
Here's a few recipes I am considering.
You can use a baking bag to put the ham
in have a moister ham.

Sweetened Baked Ham

You could also add a little honey
mustard drizzled on top of the brown sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 pound) bone-in ham, rump portion
  • 1/2 cup whole cloves
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 cups water, or as needed

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place ham in a roasting pan, and press whole cloves into the top at 1 to 2 inch intervals. Pack the top with a layer of brown sugar. Pour enough water into the bottom of the roasting pan to come to a 1 inch depth. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil or a lid.
  3. Bake for 4 1/2 to 5 hours in the preheated oven (about 22 minutes per pound), or until the internal temperature of the ham has reached 160 degrees F (72 degrees C). Make sure the meat thermometer is not touching the bone. Let stand for about 20 minutes before carving.
--------------------------------

Glazed Ham

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 pound) bone-in shank ham
  • 4 cups water, or as needed
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch ground cloves

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C). Place ham in a roasting pan. Pour in water to a 2 inch depth. Cover with a tight fitting lid.
  2. Bake for 6 to 8 hours in the preheated oven (all day or all night). Remove from the oven, pour off drippings and reserve. Debone ham, removing any excess fat as well, and return to the roasting pan.
  3. Skim fat from the top of the drippings, and discard. In a small bowl, mix one cup of the drippings with honey, brown sugar, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce and cloves. Pour this over the ham, cover and return to the oven. Remaining drippings may be discarded or reserved for other uses.
  4. Bake for another 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
More tips for making a ham:
Combine a can of lime soda with brown
sugar and use to glaze ham.
Add pineapple rings and cherries to ham with toothpicks.
You could also score top of ham and insert
whole cloves.
I don't have whole cloves, nor can I afford them, so
maybe I can add some allspice seasoning to the glaze mix.
No room in oven for a ham?
Try to cook it in a crock pot using the recipes above.
Add a little water in the bottom with liquid smoke.
Watch your time though as it could only take
about 2 hours at the least to warm through
unlike the oven method. Cook too long
and you ham could fall apart. I guess that all
would depend upon if you wanted to be able
to slice it or not.
I think if you wanted to use the crock pot to try
and use one of those boneless hams that
are rectangular in shape. Buy the ones that are not
sliced (might be cheaper) and ask the butcher
if he could slice it for free. I did this last year.
You will have to tell him how thick you would
like it sliced.

-----------------------------------------------

Here is a cookie recipe I want to make today.

Chocolate Mallow Clusters from Kraft

.
Chocolate-Mallow Clusters recipe.

What You Need

1 pkg. (8 squares) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate
1 cup JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
1/2 cup crisp rice cereal
1/2 cup PLANTERS COCKTAIL Peanuts
1/2 cup coarsely crushed pretzels
1/2 cup dried cranberries
20 JET-PUFFED HOLIDAY MALLOWS Marshmallows

Make It

MICROWAVE chocolate in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min.; stir. Microwave 1 to 2 min. or until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring every 30 sec. Add next 5 ingredients; mix well.

SPOON into 20 mounds on waxed paper-covered baking sheet, using about 2 Tbsp. cereal mixture for each. Top each with 1 large marshmallow, pressing marshmallow gently into top of mound to secure.

REFRIGERATE 30 min. or until firm.

Kraft Kitchens Tips

Size-Wise
A serving of this sweet treat goes a long way on chocolate flavor.
Variation
Substitute 1-1/2 cups of your favorite trail mix for the nuts, pretzels and cranberries.
How to Store
Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.

I think I'm going to omit the last three ingredients
and just use chocolate, rice krispies, peanuts
and maybe marshmallows to make it.
Don't know why you couldn't make this into
S'Mores clusters and add some
chopped up graham crackers to chocolate
and marshmallows!
Or here's a thought,
use Golden Grahams cereal.
(I think malt o meal has their version also)

From Taste Of Home

S'more Drops Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Golden Grahams
  • 1-1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Spice Island® Pure Vanilla Extract

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the cereal and marshmallows; set aside. Place the chocolate chips, corn syrup and butter in a 1-qt. microwave-safe dish.
  • Microwave, uncovered, on high for 1-2 minutes or until smooth, stirring every 30 seconds. Stir in vanilla. Pour over cereal mixture and mix well. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Cool. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.

We visited the Goodwill Thrift Store on Morse Rd.
last week and thought I would share this news
with you about this location.

Goodwill Store Moves Down the Road
Customers who shop at Goodwill know they are supporting programs and creating jobs for individuals with disabilities and other barriers.

After 10 years in the Morse Center strip mall, Goodwill Columbus' Morse Road retail store is moving down the road. Thrifty shoppers will only need to travel another mile on Morse Road toward Easton to find this brand new, stand alone Goodwill store.

Besides having a convenient drive-thru for dropping off donated goods, the store has easier street access and better on-site customer parking.

The new 13,000 square feet Goodwill retail store is located in the former Sleep Outfitters building at 2933 Morse Road, just west of Westerville Road and across from the Dennis Hyundai and Kia car dealership.

My honey called to say he's bringing me home
some goodies.
He found a large area rug, he thinks it's
about 9x12', an antique table and a box
of dishwasher detergent. Freebies are good
when you have a limited income!
Check out what my friend Kendra gave me today,
an almost 23 pound turkey that cost
almost $30!! I'm putting it in the freezer
so I'll have it come next Thanksgiving.
Yes they do last that long in the freezer
and have been doing it for several years now.
THANKS KENDRA!!

------------------------------------------------

Here's a coupon for
Buy 2 Get 2 Free Yankee Candles.
The coupons says good at any Yankee Candle stores
or at participating retail stores excluding
outlet stores, Target & Yankee Candle Fundraisers.
I did some searches to see who might
sell these candles and so far I only see Kohls,
Bed Bath & Beyond, and Ulta.
There are two Yankee Candle stores,
Polaris & Tuttle Crossing.
They run about $18-$22 each!
They are pretty expensive but one of the
best scented candles out there.
Paula Dean's are really good also!

------------------------------------------

I just got more sales ads in the mail today.
I wanted to let you know SearsOutletStore.com
is having a 50% off sale on Kenmore

40% off all other brands.

40% off Kenmore high efficiency washers & glass door dryers.
35% off all other brands

40% off all Kenmore Ranges
35% off all other brands

I didn't even know they had this store!
Or maybe I did but didn't know
it was a marked down store.
Will have to check it out in the near future
since there is one in Northern Light's Shopping Center.

-----------------------------------------

7:30pm

My honey just got home from work!
Then had to go back out due to another page.
Ahhh! Oh well gotta think extra money!

Got about 3 1/2 dozen snickerdoodles made.
To stretch my cookie mixes I've been adding
a 1/2 cup flour to each batch.
For the snickerdoodles I added about
1/4 cup dry gingerbread coffe-mate creamer
to the dough.
Then I added about a tablespoon to the
cinnamon-sugar mixture I rolled the cookies in.

I got the teacher's bags done up and
ready to be taken to school tomorrow.
I put the hot chocolate mugs into the
bottoms of the bags and then filled
the bag with cookies.
And I made a couple batches of
chocolate toffee graham treats.
I threw in some peanuts also to give
it a little somethin' somethin'.
Recipe is found on 11-30-10.
Here I just removed them from the
oven and sprinkled with chocolate chips.
Then once the chips melted you take
a rubber spatula and spread the chocolate over top.
Supposed to put in fridge so that the
chocolate & toffee can harden. But I don't have any
fridge space so might sit outside instead, LOL.
Hey, whatever works!
Let's hope the neighborhood raccoon or cats
don't come for a visit when my back's turned!

Breakfast 7:30am

Since it was very cold out I wanted to give
the kids something other than cold cereal
for breakfast this morning.
I made apple cinnamon muffins
and topped them with cocoa krispies before baking.
Then once baked, melted some cream cheese
frosting and drizzled over the top.
Yummy!
Total cost for 4 large muffins:

muffin mix .39 cents
and the other ingredients was leftovers
I had sitting around.
-------------------------------------------------

10:00am

Got cookies baking in the oven.
I used a Krusteaz chocolate chip cookie mix
and added about a cup of dried cranberries that has
been soaking in water overnight with a little
almond & vanilla extract.
I stirred in a tablespoon of orange zest to cranberries
before adding to mix.
Then I stirred in a half cup of flour.

I wanted to add in some walnuts
but I'll be darned if I could find them in the pantry.
So instead I put in a half cup of granola cereal.
I had some extra cream cheese frosting so I put some
in a zip bag, closed, then rolled it around in my hands
to warm it up and make creamier.
I snipped a very tiny piece of one
of the corners of the zip bag. Then piped it
over top the cookies.

-----------------------------------------------------

Homemade Potpourri

I had some orange and lime peel leftover
from baking so I threw them in a saucepan
with a cinnamon stick, nutmeg, ginger, ground cinnamon & allspice and covered with water and have it simmering on the
stove.

Around 10am this morning the township
was out and about plowing the streets.
I feel for the people who literally live one block

because it's city streets.

It's taken me 2 days to search through numerous

pictures online to find some pictures to print

out for my gift bags.

I had to doodle and crop each image to fit the

size of the bag.

I printed them, cut them out and glued

onto paper lunch bags.

In the middle is the name tag.

I folded the top over and glued the one design

on the flap then poked 2 holes in the flap with

a pen and inserted some ribbon through it.

4 spools of gold ribbon .90 cent thrift store find.

Ribbons won't go in until I've filled them with cookies.

Hubby has a pot luck dinner at work Friday.

So instead of taking in a baked dish I'm

gonna have him take in all the cookie bags.

------------------------------------------

5:00-6:00pm

Showed Tony my assembly line of goody bags, lol.

Then he asks if I can make 4 more bags

for more girls/guys in the office at work, ahhh!

That means even more cookies because

I'm all out of the ones I had.

At the moment I am up to 18 goody bags.

Of those 18, I did 15 of those up for only 1 person,

and 3 of them which are for families of 3-4 people.

I am starting to get stressed out just a little!

I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow

to get stuff for Christmas dinner.

Then to Walgreens to use my $5.00 Jingle Cash

and possibly Walmart to return some Spinbrush

toothbrushes.

Kendra is stopping by to give me a FREE turkey!

That is sooooo nice of her to do that for us!

I couldn't afford a turkey this year to put back

for next so this is much appreciated!

Then I have Christmas wrapping to

do this week also along with Christmas cards.

I still have these cookie to make:

Peppermint Krispies Bark

Graham Cracker Brittle

Gingerbread Spice Snickerdoodles

another batch of Sugar & Spice Gum Drop Cookies.

My friend Kendra said she liked the idea with

the cranberry sugar cookies and made her own.

Instead of Canberries she added strawberries.

Said she will bring me some strawberries

and sugar cookie mixes over tomorrow so I can try

to make some. I think I will and add some

white chocolate chips to them and roll them

in red sugar sprinkles before baking.

Here's my assembly line.

I still have 9 more gift bags to make

and another hot chocolate gift mug.

And let me add in here that Tony is

on call all this week also.

Gone crazy, be back later, lol!!

Friday December 17th at 10:00am and "like" them

to try and get 90% off items.

They will be giving 90% off on

300 Ionic KitchenAid Stand Mixers to 300 people.

These things are like $200-$300!

There might be other 90% offers as well.

I tried this before when they had it and

the sight gets overrun with people!

So good luck! Wish I could get that mixer for 90% off!!

------------------------------------------

8:20pm

Check out this cookie sitting on my baker's rack, LOL!

Jonathan put together a skateboard and

wanted to give it to his lesser fortunate friend

for Christmas who didn't have one.

He's been asking me for paint

the last couple of days so tonight I got out

some and decided to paint it up for him.

I wasn't too crazy to hand him a paint brush

and a gallon of paint and let him do it himself!

Before

After

-----------------------------------------------------

9:45pm

Just got 10 more gift bags completed

for a total of 19 made today.

Whew, so glad that's over with!

I figured up that it costs me .09 cents a bag

to make. So for 18 bags was $1.66.

Yeah it's allot of work to try to save some

money. But I think in this case it let people

know that you put more thought into their gift.

Now time to work on my grocery list

then I'm heading to bed!

12:25pm

Snow, snow, go away!
.

I got cookies zip bagged up this morning.
Still have many more to make.

I was working more on my printer this morning.
I got it to print better but there was quite
a battle with it. It put up a good fight and I
think it won. I removed the black ink cartridge
and it leaked everywhere on me, not on anything else!
I've got it all over both hands, a toe from where it dripped
and hit my sock and my right thigh from where it
dripped on my pants and went through to my skin.
Ruined my pants, grrr.
Now I'm stuck for awhile with black ink all over
me because it doesn't exactly wash off!!
So if anyone asks I'll tell them I have
frost bite on my fingers to freak them out, LOL!
Take a look, it's not a pretty sight!!!
I fought the printer, and the printer won!

Nestle Coffee-Mate Coffee Creamer

Found some gingerbread coffee-mate powdered
creamer in my baking stash.
I got to thinking about maybe adding some of that
to the Krusteaz Snickerdoodle cookie mixes.

3:30pm

The boys went to a birthday party.
Of course had to stop in Big Lots so
the kids didn't go without a present.

We didn't end up going to Tony's family reunion
which would have been today.

In The Bag that comes on your door
is a bunch of coupons for McDonalds
for buy 1 get 1 free sandwiches!

-------------------------------------------

With the snow comes all the wet clothing.
I dug out a quilt rack (a freebie I found)
and put it over a register and hung wet
clothes from.

---------------------------------------------------

6:55pm

Got all my laundry done.
I'm running a little behind with that.

Just got done making 26 Empanadas
with Nutella & nut filling dusted with powdered sugar.
I used a Krusteaz sugar cookie mix to make these.
I added an additional 1/2-3/4 cup flour
to the mix to make a stiffer dough.

8:50pm

I made up 5 Christmas coffee mugs for gifts.
I just recently got all the mugs for free so that was a plus.
I put a packet of hot chocolate, a baggie of mini marshmallows
and a plastic spoon dipped in chocolate and covered in
sprinkles, in the mug. I'm also thinking about doing
a baggie of crushed up peppermints to add in there also.
These will go to 3 teachers, Tony's maintenance boss,
Tony's friend at work & mom/step-dad.
.

Tomorrow I plan to bake up some
cranberry chocolate chip cookies.
I cut up some dried cranberries.
Tonight I have them soaking in a bowl
with a little vanilla & almond extract to
plump them up.
