REPURPOSING AN OLD TOWEL

Got all my Clorox mop cleaning pads done.
I took an old towel that had holes in it,
and cut it up.

I found that a magazine made a great
template for the cloths.

After cutting out I zig zag stitched
around the edges to keep from fraying.

This can be used on Clorox Ready Mops
or the Swiffer Sweeper Mops.

How making your own mop pads saves you money...

I priced the cheapest package of Clorox
Ready Mop pads at Walmart for
$6.00 for 16 pads, that's .38 cents a pad.

Let's say you use 4 pads a week, mopping
twice with 2 pads each time.
That's $6.00 a month
for a package of these pads.
Times 12 months is $72.00!

You save $72 a year by making your
own pads from a freebie towel!!

Now add that to our savings with
homemade bathroom wipes and
homemade rags and our total savings
so far each year is....
$202 just for these 3 simple
homemade items!!!

Cut up and got the beans from the garden
blanched and put in one of those Zioloc
vacuum bags. First time trying those out.
Seem pretty good.

Next I sliced up the hungarian and banana
peppers from the garden to pickle.
No these are not canned as they will
get eaten too quickly.
I saved all the seeds from the peppers
for next year.

Mom just stopped by after her trip to Meijers.
There she picked me up a watermelon for $2.99,
the cheapest we've seen this year!

I plan on making these drinks below with
some of the watermelon.

WATERMELON LEMONADE
4 Servings

Ingredients

* 2 cups lemonade
* 3 cups seedless watermelon, coarsely chopped
* 1 cup crushed ice

Directions

* In a blender, combine all ingredients; cover and process until smooth. Pour into chilled glasses; serve immediately. Yield: 4 servings.

---------------------------------

WATERMELON AND BASIL ICED TEA
Yield: Makes 8 servings

Ingredients

* 8 cups boiling water
* 8 tea bags
* 1/8 medium-sized watermelon, cut into small triangles
* 1 small bunch fresh basil sprigs
* Sugar, to taste (if desired)

Preparation

Pour the water into a heat-resistant pitcher. Add the tea bags and let steep for 10 minutes. Remove and discard the bags and allow the tea to cool to room temperature before refrigerating. Add the watermelon, basil, and sugar (if using), and pour over ice.

Taco Bell to embrace breakfast

For those craving a Mexican-inspired burrito breakfast, Taco Bell will soon be your go-to spot. The restaurant chain will permanently launch a breakfast menu starting late 2011 or 2012.

The new breakfast menu is still in the making and will apparently take a year or two of research and testing to launch the ideal line to satisfy customers. Some breakfast items will be double-ham-and-cheese melt, sausage burritos, potato and cheese roll ups, and hash browns. The menu will be a mix of mid-priced items and inexpensive food options, some even priced under a dollar. Taco Bell will partner with Seattle's Best Coffee, Jimmy Dean sausages, Cinnabon Delights, and other brands to expand its breakfast line.

Resveratrol may prevent eye disease, blindness

(NaturalNews) Resveratrol -- a natural compound found in red wine, grapes, blueberries, peanuts and other plants -- has been found to promote longevity and health in a variety of ways. For example, scientists have found evidence it prevents heart disease, helps keep weight under control, normalizes cholesterol levels and may prevent diabetes. Now there's another benefit to add to this remarkable list of benefits: it could prevent some of the top causes of blindness.

HINTS AND TIPS FOR TODAY

Use Vinyl Tablecloth as Curtain to Keep Out Heat

---------------------------------------

Make Your Own Brown Sugar
To make your own brown sugar, mix one tablespoon of molasses with a cup of white sugar. Add more for darker and less for lighter.

---------------------------------------

Use Envelope Labels and Return Labels

To save money on return address labels, cut the labels out of everything sent to you. When you need to send out an envelope or package, tape it in the left hand corner of the envelope or package and you have an instant return address label that didn't cost you anything.

---------------------------------------

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store.
If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

---------------------------------------

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil.
It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

---------------------------------------

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.
Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

--------------------------------------

Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef.
It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

--------------------------------------

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of
spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

--------------------------------------

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints
in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

--------------------------------------

Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm.
This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza.

--------------------------------------

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in
a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food
moist and help it reheat faster.

--------------------------------------

Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers,
put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and for-
get about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not
get through wet newspapers.

-------------------------------------

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

------------------------------------

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth.

------------------------------------

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

------------------------------------

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

7-13-10

7:00-9:45AM

Woke up to another one of my backaches
so ain't moving too swift again this morning.

Been working in Jonathan's room this morning.
I hate these sliding closet doors! I have
taken them off, put them on and just can't
find a mediocre with them. You slide them
and they fall off and are a pain to put back
on! Wonder if in the future we could do something
about them. Here's an idea I had but I would
want regular doors and not ones with glass
windows to put on the closet. This would make it
so much more easier to get into the closets
and see what you want!! I have tried tension
curtain rods with curtains in the place
of the doors but that's also getting
to be a pain in the butt!
Also tried going with no doors and if
you have kids, the closets are areas
where you don't want to expose all their
clutter!

Or if you wanted to get fancier in a master
bedroom you could hang those dressing mirrors
on the front and glue trim on to look
like French doors.
Mirrors we find at Tony's work for free
and the trim wood pieces can be found
at Habitat for about .25 cents a foot.
Or heck just paint he lines on.

Wouldn't it be nice to make closet
doors that tuck back inside when open like on
some of these entertainment stands.
Hmmmm, will have to be on the lookout
for these stands during college move out
time and remove the hardware from them.
Now if the hardware could hold solid wood
doors like this one below I'm sure it
would be able to hold a hollow core door.

POOL NOODLE CRAFTS

You could probably find these at yard sales,
dollar stores
or marked down in stores come the end of Summer!

- Cut off 3/4" pieces and float in a pool or bathtub as decor or even as packing material, in place of those boring packing peanuts

- Use to cover spokes and frames of bicycles

- Use to make homemade stamps

- Soft building blocks or bath toys

- run thread through pieces and make garlands

- make party straw decorations

- pipe insulators

- draft stopper

- cut a slice in one side of hollow ones
and use around coffee tables when you
have little ones running around.

- Tony uses a pipe insulator on the poles
of his golf cart to keep from banging
his head on them when loading and unloading.

10:30AM

Well I need to get the kids motivated and
something to eat.
Want to head out soon to the library, Walgreens
and possibly the thrift store to find a
flat flannel sheet to start making
fabric wipes for the bathroom.

___________________________________________________

2:30PM

Just back from library, Walgreens and the
thrift store.

Did not have a good experience at the library.
Could not find my reserved book so asked a
librarian. She looked it up on the computer
and saw that another person with the same name
took the book I reserved. She turned it back in
saying she didn't reserve it and it got shipped
somewhere else. So now I have to wait another
3-5 days for it.

Next WALGREENS so here's the breakdown for that trip

$63.94 BEFORE COUPONS

THRIFT STORE

$10 and some change (don't remember exact amount)

3 polo school shirts

1 Titanic model ship (already built)

1 toy car

3 wire baskets for organizing

pkg open shoe insoles

1 flannel sheet
(decided upon this one as it has
squares already on the design of
the fabric so it would be easier to
cut out)

___________________________________________________

4:15PM

Just got done cutting all the fabric wipes.
I got 66- 2 block wipes
and 40- 4 block wipes made.
If you do make your own I highly
recommend finding fabric with
lines or squares on it.
It makes it soooo much easier
when cutting them all out!
Total cost to make all these...
$1.99.

I didn't find the pinking shears
so I will need to zig zag stitch
them all around the edges so they
don't fray.

Let's see how much I would be saving
by doing this...

Let's say a person uses a roll of
toilet paper each week. (a regular roll)
4 people in household is
a 4 roll package of tp a week.
Let's say each pack is $1.50
times 52 weeks is $78 a year.

This is just about like using rags
instead of paper towels at $1.00 a week.
Savings of $52 a year.

Between the TP and paper towels
alone you can save at least
$130!!

See the little things do start adding
up!!

___________________________________________________

6:30

99 bathroom wipes to sew, 99 bathroom wipes,
take one down and sew it around, 98
bathroom wipes to go.

Got about a fourth of them zig zagged
around the edges. This is the tedious
task after that it's smooth sailing,
or should I say wiping, lol.

This is gonna take a long time I see as
I still have rags to make from towels
and cut towels down to fit the swiffer
mop along with these wipes.

__________________________________________________

Another cost saver. Screw buying cat toys.
Get them a plain cardboard box! LOL.
Think I can put a return label on
it and ship it back???

Don't these two look soooo innocent.
HA HA HA HA!!!

There's been a lot of talk about cutting back
and saving money when doing laundry on my Yahoo groups today
so I will once again add it here of what to do.

-Full Loads

-Wash in Cold whenever possible.

-Use a fraction of the detergent that the label says to.
use 1-2 T. of liquid detergent

-Wear clothes multiple times before washing

-If you use dryer sheets cut them into
about 4 pieces. Use one piece per load.

-Line dry your laundry.

-Wash clothes during non peak electric hours
such as morning or night.

-Match sales with coupons for soap and
fabric softener.

-If using fabric softener use smaller
amounts and dilute it.

-Buy a 5 gallon bucket of detergent.
Use 1 TBSP per load. It will last about 2 years!

-Make your own powder laundry detergent
* 1 bar of shaved bar soap (Ivory, ZOTE, Fels-Naptha)
* 1/2 cup of borax
* 1/2 cup of washing soda
Mix together and store air tight container.
This doesn't suds up. Use only 1 tablespoon.

Where was this next tip when I painted yesterday?

Clean Paint Brushes Easily!

7-12-10

8:35AM
Throwing supper in the crock pot.
Dumping in a couple of boneless pork
ribs, can of apple pie filling and
a pork seasoning packet that I found
in the mark down bin at Kroger this
weekend.
Once done I will remove pork from crock
and add stuffing mix to the apple
pie filling and mix together.

For dessert will make some more
cookie ice cream cups. This time
I will use gingerbread cookie mix
and caramel ice cream.

For breakfast we had egg sandwiches
with swiss cheese and mayo.
Why is it every time I go to the store
I can't seem to remember butter or
cooking spray. So because I didn't have
any for frying eggs this morning I used
Italian dressing instead. Gives eggs
a whole new flavor!

I don't have any grocery shopping to
do this week. The only place I want
to go is Walgreens to pick up some
school supplies while on sale.
I also wanted to get some insoles
while I have a total of $5.00
off in coupons. I did get a pair
from Kroger Saturday with one $2.00
coupon and that was only because
we couldn't wait to get Tony
some foot relief. I think I paid
$7 or $8 for the DR. Scholl's after
the coupon.

Wanna see a kid frown, tell them you're
going to buy school supplies. Only
six and a half weeks left til the start
of school. Summer's half over with already!
Stores are starting to have
school supplies on sale so now is the time
to start stocking up on them. Stock up
on the basic things you think they could
use all year such as pencils, crayons,
glue, pencil sharpeners, paper, folders.
I'm hoping to get a shelf done up
in the basement for nothing but school
stuff. Store the items on the shelves
in those plastic shoe box storage containers.
Now would also be the time to shop for
some school clothes and beat the rush
of other shoppers!

I shop yard sales and thrift stores for
their clothes. I think Ohio Thrift
has a half price day on everything
in their store the last Wednesday of every month.
But usually there are a ton of people in the
store that day so don't know if it's worth
pushing your way through the crowd.
So July 28th is the last half price day
before school starts!

I already bought
school shoes right before Summer so they
have a brand new pair waiting for that
first day of school, providing their feet
hasn't grown too much, but I try to buy
just a tad bigger.

___________________________________________________

9:30-10:30AM

I pulled out the paint I used in Jonathan's bedroom
and decided to use it on the dining room wall.
I have a base coat on the wall of this paint.
Then I took a bowl and added a cup of this
paint along with the 2 Glidden terracotta rose
paint samples and mixed them together.
This will be the top coat which
I am getting ready to put on.
I love this color soooo much more
than the glidden color sample I got
in the mail that was toooo bright!
It goes much more better with the
yellow walls.

__________________________________________________

10:30-11:30AM

Got the dining room wall finished and are so
LOVING the color I came up with!
The color in the photos are NOT true colors.
It looks more like the last photo
called Navajo Red. Picture in your head a dark
terracotta. I don't know why the camera
is picking up the color as more red because
it is not, it's orangy brown.

Now compare that with the terracotta rose
color from Glidden....AHHHHH!

Here is a recipe for homemade Cool Whip.
I have not tried it yet.

Cool Whip

1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
2 teaspoons cold water
3 tablespoons boiling water
1/2 cup ice water
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons oil

Chill a small metal mixing bowl. Soften gelatin with 2 teaspoons cold water,
then add boiling water, stirring until gelatin is completely dissolved. Cool
until tepid. Place ice water and nonfat dry milk in the chilled bowl. Beat at
high speed until mixture forms stiff peaks. Add sugar, still beating, then oil
and gelatin. Place in freezer about 15 minutes then transfer to refrigerator
until ready for use. Stir before using to retain creamy texture.

Makes 2 cups

__________________________________________________

12:30PM

Wow the day is just flying by. Haven't made it
down to the basement today. Might stay upstairs
and work in Jonathan's room and bathroom today.

__________________________________________________

I don't know what it is about kids and toilet
paper. They use sooo much of it and toilet
paper is not cheap! Plus all that toilet paper
clogs the toilet up and I have to play
maintenance mommy a lot. I had turned to
wipes from the store but there's an extra
expense.

Now I am considering making my own wipes
that I can wash. I know it sounds gross
but it can't be any grosser than an overloaded
bathroom trash can that the dog likes to
dig treats out of!! Plus if you've ever
done cloth diapers it can't be any worse
than that!!
I'm gonna find me a flat flannel sheet
and cut it into squares/rectangles with
pinking shears for them to use
as wipes. Place a small spray bottle
on the back of the toilet filled with
2 Tablespoons cheap baby shampoo
and fill the rest with water.
They can use this to spray to moisten the
cloth with.
Then I will find a small trash can
with lid for them to put them into.

Walllah, environment friendly, reusable
and no more extra expense of going
through soooo much TP.

___________________________________________________

Lunch

Grilled swiss cheese sandwiches.
Used Italian dressing brushed on the bread
before grilling instead of butter.

___________________________________________________

Been thinking about what to use for a shelf
on my wall in the kitchen. I'm not having
much luck finding the right depth of a shelf
that will work.

If I can't find something soon here is an idea
that I had if I can locate a 3 shelf bookshelf.

I would like to cut the whole thing in half.
Usually they are like 12 inches deep so this
would make it only 6 inches deep.
I'd paint it white, add a backing
and put the light pine contact paper
on the back of it to blend in with the
other kitchen cabinets.

So then I would have two shelves. Couldn't
let the other one go to waste. So here's
is my idea for that, put dowels along sides
and wheels on the bottom and use it in
the small space between the fridge and wall.
I could store cans, small boxes of food or
even spices on it.

Or I don't see why you couldn't
convert an old VHS storage rack
or CD rack, depending on your space
you have, into a shelf for pantry items
beside your fridge.

This is what I want to make to
put next to fridge to give you an idea.

Just some ideas I have. I'm always looking
for more storage place around here!
I'll have to keep an eye out at
yard sales for one :0)

7-11-10

Why's someone ALWAYS gotta mess with your stuff.
This is ridiculous!
We had our blue Trans Am pulled out in the
drive way as we were considering cruising it
sometime this weekend. Tony had it all
cleaned up and even vacuumed it.
I went out to our truck this morning
and noticed when I passed by the TA
that the console and glove box was
hanging open and what little contents
there was, was in the passenger seat.
I knew Tony didn't leave it like this
after cleaning it! Our truck was unlocked
and windows down all night and nothing
was touched in it which makes me wonder
if someone was in the car last night
when we were gone. While nothing appears
to be missing it still pisses me off they
were Fn' with our stuff!!
You know another thing that doesn't make
sense is that I don't think anyone has ever
messed with the red TA in 11 years but this
blue TA has had seat covers stolen, back
wheels stolen left on blocks and
now this.

11:50AM

ALSO NOTICE THAT THE SONS OF BITCHES ALSO STOLE
THE BICYCLE THAT TONY JUST BROUGHT HOME NOT
LONG AGO FOR CHRISTOPHER!!!!
We had the bicycles in front of the shed door.
They were out of site from the road and driveway!
Whoever it was had to of come down our driveway
and into our yard.

KENDRA & DEWAYNE

We might still be interested in getting that fence up now!
We are tired of shit getting stolen all the time.
I have lost count of how many bicycles have been stolen
and how many times cars have been rummaged through.
Considering taking the garden out and putting a parking
area in it's place behind fenced gates to further
protect the cars. Also would like to figure out
how to continue the fence across the driveway
and make it into a gate also.
With what little money we have we cannot afford
to have people shopping at our home for freebies
in the middle of the night or after dark!!!
You try to put stuff outta sight but they are now
coming into our yard!
I know we are being watched.
They know when we leave and are not home.
And I am pretty sure this latest incident
didn't happen when we were in bed but
when we were gone last night.

FENCE PLANS

The day is just flying by. Went to Home Depot
and Lowes to price items for a fence.
All I can say is there goes any bonus
Tony gets. We were thinking about
getting rid of the Explorer and Tracker
and finding another decent running Explorer
with his bonus money. Not this time
around :0( Will have to keep limping
vehicles around instead.

And now Tony's feet has worsened where
he can hardly walk! Need to get him
a family doctor's appointment then
get a possible referral to a specialist.
So there's more money out of our pockets.
When it rains it pours!!

Stopped by McDonalds to get a bite to eat.
Why is it every time we go there they get
a delivery semi truck in there to block the
parking spots???!!! I'm tired of being
asked to move our vehicle after we've sat
down to enjoy our food. I just grabbed
my food and left. They had cones
in the parking lot where the truck was
blocking off areas. Cones? What cones?
Thump, thump, thump they go under our
truck tires (EVIL LAUGH)

I was worrying that to put up a fence we
would need a permit. I located a file
online that doesn't look like we will.
The fence will only be 6 feet high.
Anything over 6 feet is considered
a structure and would require a building
permit.

FENCES in Columbus

You ever just have one of those days?
Well that feels like today.

Tony called the transmission guy about
the problems with the shifter cable
that the guy goofed up. We originally took
the TA to the guy because it had a transmission
leak, and after him so called fixing it,
it now has THREE leaks!! Don't go to the
transmission shop on Main St. in Reynoldsburg!
Anyway the guy said to bring it back and he
would fix it.
This is the guy that Tony painted the inside
of his house and said he would pay him and
never did.
Now this guy asks Tony tonight if he wanted
to do more work around his house.
HELLO, WHAT ABOUT GETTING PAID FROM THE
PAINTING JOB HE DID????
Some people got balls let me tell ya!!
Heck I ain't been paid for babysitting
3 kids the one day.

Then this eve we return home from Kroger
and one of the neighborhood kids asks the
boys if they could spend the night with him.
The funny part is, is that he is a colored boy
and he told us his mom said they could spend
the night and have a "WHITE NIGHT"!
What the hell does that mean, LOL!
I have never heard of that before.

I am just in one of my moods today.
When we came home from Kroger we found
that the dog decided to use our carpet
as a potty. GRRRRRR! This is a dog that
you let out constantly and she'll forget
what she's outside for. And most of the
time you have to tell her to go poopie
or she'll forget that too.
So anyway the dog was booted outside for the
night. Maybe she'll chase away any
burglars, LMFAO!! She'd help them!

And talking of dogs and carpets...
We stopped in Ollie's today for the first
time. It's sort of reminded me of Big Lots.
They claim to have really cheap prices
and to me they are no different than
other stores I shop.

Ollie's does carry HUGE rolls of carpet.
Which we checked out for maybe a future
project of changing out our carpet
in our home. First of all I can't stand
the light color and second, with animals,
it really needs changed out!

For a 12 foot by 21 foot roll was $174.
That covers 252 square feet. So what's
that about .69 cents a square foot?
Lowes wants $1.69 a sq ft. according
to their website for the cheapest carpet
so that would be $425.88.
I think I would like to save $251.88
if I could :0)

The brand at Ollie's was Natco.
I did a little research and found that
Home Depot sells Natco area rugs.
I was concerned about the quality
of the carpet and this was all I could find.

Well the evening just got better and what a way
to wind it down.
"White Night" ain't happening at the friends
house due to Christopher acting up and
now both of them are back home at 10PM.

I swear what the hell else????!!!!!

Just having a lovely day.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store.
