Brunch/Lunch

Fried taters, smoked sausage and onions

I had 1/2 smoked sausage link leftover from
making sauerkraut-sausage soup.
Then still had 4 potatoes lingering
in the fridge, so this is how this came about
to use up leftovers.

Supper

Cream chipped beef over toast.

Had a loaf of bread that's been sitting too
long and wanted to use it up before it went bad.
Didn't have any cheese to throw in it so instead used
up the rest of the bottle of 3 cheese ranch dressing
and mixed it in when adding the milk.

----------------------------------------

Took everyone to the library today.

Tony needed a manual about our Suburban.
The kids each got an armful of books.

I decided since I was there to grab a couple
books that looked interesting.

I got:

1/2 Priced Living
Secrets to living on one income

-I just browsed through this book and it must
be for the rich trying to cut back! When I read
a chapter about home improvement and it said
to spend $6,000 to $7,000 to replace your
toilet, sink and fixtures! I knew this was
not my kind of book. I tossed it aside and
read no further!!!
My kind of home improvement involves Craigslist,
Habitat or a clearance section!

Live Your Life For Half The Price
without sacrificing the life you love

Frugal Living For Dummies
Practical ideas to help you spend less,
save more and live well.

----------------------------------------

Kroger sent me an email today.
They want me to take a survey about
my shopping habits. Then I will be entered
in their contest to try and win
10- $100 prizes. Crossing fingers!
This is the first one I ever got from them.

I also received in the mail from Kroger
today a couple coupons for Clorox bleach.

-----------------------------------------

Oh my goodness! We are sitting here watching
The Real Housewives of Orange County.
One son was preparing a meal wearing an apron
around his waist. On this apron was a picture
of a penis. They didn't block it out!!
I rewound it on the DVR and sure enough
it was what we thought it was. Just something
you don't see on tv everyday. Heck on the
National Geographic channel they cover up
the genitals with blurred spots!!

-------------------------------------------

Going to bed. Just took some more ibuprofen.
Body and head still hurts! Hoping for a
better day tomorrow.

---------------------------------------------

COFFEE FILTER USES

Coffee filters ..... Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome... Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.

4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter..

12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters..

13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. It soaks out all the grease.

14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."

15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.

16. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.

17. Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.

18. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.

19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.

20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.. Saves on having extra bowls to wash.

21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.

22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.

23. Use them to sprout seeds.. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.

24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book..

25. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.

I also found a purse for $1.49!
It's pretty cool as it looks like it has it's own
filing area in it! This would be excellent for my coupons!
Big cheap purses with many compartments are hard to come by.
I need something big because at times I am carrying
all the kids snacks, pop bottles and toys.
And other times it could be a camera, cell phone, magazines, newspaper ads,
notebooks, grocery lists, books.
And lastly I sometimes carry hubby's tools, LOL.
So you understand why I need my "suitcase" as hubby calls it!!

I showed hubby my "new" purse tonight. His first comment
was that he could go to the junk yard now. So I say waddya mean?
He says, "Look at all that room in the purse. We can haul more tools
now" LMAO.
SEE I TOLD YOU SO!!!

Here are a couple subjects that came to mind today
about wasting money.

THE H1N1 VACCINE

There is/was a mad rush to be able to get the H1N1 vaccine.
But does anyone actually know if it works???
Is it yet another scam to get more of your
hard earned money and at the same time polluting
your body with unknown things???
I found where National News
and Consumer Wellness Center is offering a reward
of $10,000 for any scientific proof that the
H1N1 vaccine actually works!!
Makes you wonder doesn't it as that seems like a lot
of money as a reward!

DRIVER'S LICENSE AND TAG RENEWAL FEES

I saw this on the front of The Columbus Dispatch
this morning. I took interest in reading the article
because I felt like I was one of those who got scammed
because of a late fee I had never heard of before.
For many, many years I would wait til the end of
November to renew my car tags. My birthday falls in the
middle of November. I was never once charged a late fee
for renewing after my birthday but before the end of the month!
I was never made aware
that as of October 1st, 2009, there was going to be a $20 late
fee applied if you had not renewed your license or tags
7 days after being due!! This year I renewed my tags
8 days after my birthday and it cost me around $75.
They charged me the $20 late fee and I was like, what the hell?
The highway patrol gets $19.50 of that late fee.
And I am not the only one that didn't know!!
In the last 3 months, because people did not know about
the late fees, they have managed to collect more than
$6.4 MILLION from us!!! After doing some of my own figuring
that is more than 320,000 people!!!!!!
It says the BMV tried to tell people about it. YEAH RIGHT!
by posting on their web site and in their offices.
Give me a break. If they can send out license and tag renewals
in the mail why the hell couldn't they have sent this notice
as well to make everyone aware of it???!!!
IT'S ALL A SCAM!! They sneak ways in of legally taking your money!!

-----------------------------------

This past weekend I decided to clean out my cupboards.
I now have a donation box full of plastic bowls/lids
and a few bakeware items. I figured if these items
didn't get used over the holidays it was time to go.

I had a crock pot that no longer worked. I threw out the base
but I kept the dish and removable lid.
After checking out the crock pot web site I found useful
information that others may wonder about using these
dishes to bake in.

From CrockPot.com:

Is my Crock-Pot® slow cooker oven or microwave safe?

All Crock-Pot® slow cooker removable crockery inserts (without lid) may be used safely in the oven set up to 400°F. In addition, all Crock-Pot® slow cooker removable crockery inserts are microwavable (without lid). If you own another brand slow cooker, please refer to your owner’s manual for specific crockery cooking medium tolerances.

Can I put my stoneware in the oven or microwave?

Removable stoneware is ovenproof up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and microwave safe. Do not use removable stoneware on gas or electric burner or under broiler unless the product specifically calls out that it can be used on the stovetop.

NORTHLAND NEWS

"Columbus will be increasing it's city utility rates.
Residential bills will rise by 4.89 percent, said Steve Snedaker, assistant director of public utilities. That's an 8.5 percent increase in water rates, a 2 percent increase in sewer rates and a 9 percent increase in stormwater rates."

-----------------------------------

WAYS TO CUT BACK ON WATER USAGE

-fill a plastic half gallon milk jug and
put it in your toilet's tank

-reduce the amount of flushes.
"If it's yellow let it mellow.
If it's brown flush it down."

-Fix any faucet drips.

- Check your toilets for leaks
Put a little food coloring in your toilet tank. If, without flushing, the color begins to appear in the bowl within 30 minutes, you have a leak that should be repaired immediately. Most replacement parts are inexpensive and easy to install.

-Use your water meter to check for hidden water leaks
Read the house water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter does not read exactly the same, there is a leak.

-Install water-saving shower heads and low-flow faucet aerators.

-Use Your Dishwasher
Contrary to popular belief, it takes more water to hand-wash dishes than it takes to wash them in the dishwasher.

-Shower Instead of Taking Baths
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, it takes 35 gallons of water to fill the average bathtub. Switch to a five-minute shower with a low-flow showerhead, and you'll save 22.5 gallons each time you scrub up!

-Switch to a Low-Flow Toilet
When it's time to replace your toilet, replace it with a low-flow model that uses 1.6 gallons per flush, compared to a traditional toilet, which use 3.6 gallons.

-Wear Clothes More than Once
Pants and outwear usually don't get very dirty. Wear them twice before washing, and you'll cut down on your water use and your housework. Now that's hard to argue with

-Install a Tankless Hot Water Heater
When it's time to replace your hot water heater, consider upgrading to a tankless unit (also known as an on-demand water heater), it heats water faster and only when you need it – a water savings and an energy savings.

-Collect Rain Water for Plants
Attach rain barrels to the end of your gutter drain spouts to collect rainwater. Then, use it to water your plants and to wash your car.

-Use a Wading Pool Instead of a Sprinkler
Fill a wading pool for your kids, instead of letting them play in the sprinkler. They can splash around for hours without the continuous flow of water.

-Stop weekly or monthly fish tank cleanings. Pouring the old water down the sink and refilling the tank with fresh water wastes gallons of water. Instead, you should install a filtration system that will cut down on the number of times that you need to clean the tank. When you do clean the fish tank, use the old water to irrigate your plants.

-Wash your car at a coin operated car washing establishment. You are less likely to waste water if you must complete washing your car within a set time.

-Don't use the commode to dispose of such items as facial tissues, cotton swabs, and cotton balls. Put them in a waste-paper basket. Using the commode for trash disposal probably will lead to unnecessary flushings.

-The permanent press cycle on most automatic clothes washers uses approximately one-third more water than the regular cycle. Therefore, limiting your use of the permanent press cycle will save water.

-Install your water heater as near as possible to the area in which the most hot water is used. The farther the water heater is away from the point of use, the greater the amount of cool water which must be run off before hot water reaches the tap.

-Cover wading and swimming pools when they are not in use to reduce evaporation. Evaporation necessitates the use of more water to keep the pools filled.

-Don't Pre-Rinse Dishes
Scrape food from plates, and let your dishwasher do the rest.

-Keep Drinking Water in the Fridge
Then, you won't waste water while you wait for the tap to get cold.

-Insulate your water pipes.
It's easy and inexpensive to insulate your water pipes with pre-slit foam pipe insulation. You'll get hot water faster plus avoid wasting water while it heats up.

-Take shorter showers.
One way to cut down on water use is to turn off the shower after soaping up, then turn it back on to rinse. A four-minute shower uses approximately 20 to 40 gallons of water.

-Turn off the water after you wet your toothbrush
There is no need to keep the water running while brushing your teeth. Just wet your brush and fill a glass for mouth rinsing.

-Rinse your razor in the sink
Fill the sink with a few inches of warm water. This will rinse your razor just as well as running water, with far less waste of water.

-Use your dishwasher and clothes washer for only full loads

-Minimize use of kitchen sink garbage disposal units

-When washing dishes by hand, don't leave the water running for rinsing

-Don't let the faucet run while you clean vegetables

-Plant drought-resistant lawns, shrubs and plants

- Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants
Mulch will slow evaporation of moisture while discouraging weed growth. Adding 2 - 4 inches of organic material such as compost or bark mulch will increase the ability of the soil to retain moisture. Press the mulch down around the dripline of each plant to form a slight depression which will prevent or minimize water runoff.

-. Water your lawn only when it needs it
A good way to see if your lawn needs watering is to step on the grass. If it springs back up when you move, it doesn't need water. If it stays flat, the lawn is ready for watering. Letting the grass grow taller (to 3") will also promote water retention in the soil.
Most lawns only need about 1" of water each week. During dry spells, you can stop watering altogether and the lawn will go brown and dormant. Once cooler weather arrives, the morning dew and rainfall will bring the lawn back to its usual vigor. This may result in a brown summer lawn, but it saves a lot of water.

-Water during the early parts of the day; avoid watering when it's windy
Early morning is generally better than dusk since it helps prevent the growth of fungus. Early watering, and late watering, also reduce water loss to evaporation. Watering early in the day is also the best defence against slugs and other garden pests. Try not to water when it's windy - wind can blow sprinklers off target and speed evaporation.

-Don't run the hose while washing your car
Clean the car using a pail of soapy water. Use the hose only for rinsing - this simple practice can save as much as 150 gallons when washing a car. Use a spray nozzle when rinsing for more efficient use of water. Better yet, use a waterless car washing system; there are several brands, such as EcoTouch, which are now on the market.

-Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks

Here's an idea. If every you lose power you can
bring in those solar powered lights out in your yard.
Use those indoors instead of lighting candles.
Then put back outside during daylight hours
to recharge. Sure wish I had them when we lost
power for several days!

-------------------------------

Everyone's heard of Ebay and everyone's heard
of Goodwill. How about a combination of both.
Goodwill has a site where some dontations are auctioned
off online. It's their own auction site, not Ebay!
Shipping seems a little high as they ship UPS or FedEx.
Plus I saw they put in a handling fee.
So I guess it depends what kind of deal you get
as to whether or not the shipping seams reasonable.
But you should get the item pretty quick with their
shipping methods.
Here's an example:
To ship a small headset that looks like ear buds
it is 1 pound. From Indiana to ohio costs $7.59.
That's a little much!
SHOPGOODWILL

-------------------------------

Well tonight I made the Dawn and vinegar bathtub cleaner.
I wasn't impressed with the results.
While it did clean good it did not remove the bathtub
stains. The clear coat on the tub is no longer there
in areas and that's where the stains are. It's a 50
year old tub. I guess it's good as a regular bathtub
and tile cleaner as it did shine up the walls.
I did manage to disinfect my lungs and sinuses from the potent
smell of vinegar! But I guess it's better than toxic fumes
from other chemicals.
So I guess my next step will be to try
a mix of baking powder and vinegar and let it set then scrub.

SMALL SMILES DENTAL CLINICS

This was on the news tonight. And while I can't find
it on channel 10's website I did find many websites
about it when I googled it.

Small Smiles is doing unnecessary work to children
and overcharging them! Now they have a law suit against
them!

SMALL SMILES

CBSNEWS

CLEVELAND

I took one of my children to Small Smiles a couple years ago.
I vowed to never ever go back there after that visit!!!
I did NOT have a medical card and had to pay CASH!
for the visit as we did not have any kind of medical insurance.

For starters they would not allow parents to be with their
children when they worked on them! Only when getting a consultation.
Makes you wonder what the hell was really going on behind closed doors.

Next thing I didn't like was they would strap your child down
with restraints, boards with velcro straps!!!
That'll make a kid want to visit a dentist again.
And this was my child's first visit to a dentist!!

Next they wouldn't do any work on him unless he got a cleaning
and whatever else there was! So that was extra expenses!
That didn't make sense to me because I knew other dentists
didn't require all that crap!

Next the waiting room was jammed packed and it took forever
to be seen!

And lastly and my BIGGEST complaint was that we told them to
pull my son's tooth that he had a toothache and cavity in.
We considered his age and that it was a baby tooth. Why spend
all that money for other services when he would be losing
it soon anyway.
When we got home we looked in his mouth to see where he got his
tooth pulled. THEY DID NOT PULL IT. THEY PUT A CAP ON THE TOOTH
AND CHARGED US FOR IT. THEY DID IT WITHOUT OUR CONSENT!!

My mom called and even went back over there to ream their asses
for what they did!!! It got us absolutely nowhere!!
That's when I knew something was up and never went back
and told everyone I knew, or didn't know, TO NEVER GO THERE.

So now that there is a big law suit over the whole Small Smiles
doing crap they shouldn't have who gets to reap the rewards of the law
suit???? Probably not the people who paid cash BUT the welfare offices!!
Once again we the people are SCREWED!!!
WHERE IS OUR PAIN, SUFFERING, TIME AND COST RECOUPED FROM THIS????

1-19-10

Decided to keep Jonathan home from school today.
On top of his ear infections he starting getting
a cough last night. I'm sure he didn't sleep
well as I could hear him coughing all hours
of the night.
I hate this time of year with everyone getting
sick!!
Got a pot of boiling water mixed with vinegar on
the stove. Vinegar is also a disinfectant. I also
use it in my vaporizers. I'm hoping to disinfect
the air around here.

Cleaning your vents and furnace filters regularly
can also helps to remove viruses and germs which
can pollute your home's air.

----------------------------

While we find all kinds of things at Tony's
work I just wanted to let everyone know
this is not an all time thing. I know it
seem like we've gotten a lot here lately
but that is not typical this time of year.
I got another pic of a few more items
he recently brought home for us.
A rechargable hand vac and a box of trash bags.

HOMEMADE NON-TOXIC CLEANING SUPPLIES

FEBREZE

1 empty spray bottle
1 1/2 cups water
1 Tablespoon vinegar
2 Tablespoons fabric softener

I once accidentally picked up my homemade Febreze
bottle thinking it was my water spray bottle for my
hair. I sprayed the febreze mixture on my hair.
I discovered this makes an excellent hair detangler!!
My spray bottle didn't have the vinegar in it though.
I have long, thick hair so this was a wonderful
discovery!

GLASS CLEANER

1/2 cup vinegar to 1 gallon of water (or 2 tablespoons per quart)

FOG FREE MIRRORS

Apply regular old shaving cream to your mirror in small amounts in a thin layer and wipe clean with a clean rag. Not only does it keep your bathroom mirrors clean they also do not fog over.

LAUNDRY STAIN REMOVAL

Equal parts of white vinegar and liquid dishwashing soap put into a spray bottle and spray on spots

FURNITURE POLISH

Mix in a sprayer bottle:

1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup lemon juice

Shake well and apply a small amount to a flannel cleaning rag or cleaning cloth. Spread evenly over furniture surface. Turn cloth to a dry side and polish dry.

OXYCLEAN

1 cup water
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
1/2 cup baking soda

SHOWER & BATHTUB CLEANER

1 (16-oz) spray bottle
2 cups white vinegar
1/2 cup dawn dish washing liquid (not ultra Dawn...if that's all you got, try 1/4 cup instead)

1. Put 2 cups of vinegar into spray bottle. Add this FIRST or the mix will foam on you.
2. Then add 1/2 cup Dawn dish washing liquid.
3. Replace top and gently shake.

Tonight's supper will be
Bacon Cheeseburger Lasagna

Was sitting here thinking about what I had that needed
used up.
I have:
half pound bacon,
hamburger thawed out in the fridge,
can of cheddar cheese soup that I didn't use in my potato soup yesterday,
onions &
American cheese slices

I rolled out some homemade lasagna noodles.

Homemade noodles are a cinch to make!
I made 3 batches today.
for each batch you will need:

1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons milk or water

I add flour as needed to make the consistency
like a thick playdough.

----------------------------------

Jonathan discovered today that a pasta roller
set on spaghetti noodles makes a great paper shredder.
AhhhHH!!

1-18-09

It was a good thing I waited until today to
get Jonathan's medicine. I could have bought
it from the Urgent Care for $30.
It didn't cost me anything at Kroger on Henderson!!
So there was $30 saved.

I picked up a few things while in Kroger.
I saw Campbell's soup was on sale for $1.00
each when regular $1.89.
I got 3 cans of soup for my potato soup
I'm making today.
I saved $2.67.

Then I got 9 loaves of bread marked down to
.39 cents each.
I saved $3.51

----------------------------------

Got some potato soup in the crock.

Sauted onions, celery and 1/2 pound cut up bacon
in skillet and put in the crock.
Then added a can of cream of broccoli and
cheese and broccoli soup to the crock with
some milk. Added about a teaspoon season salt.
Diced up some of my boiled potatoes from yesterday.

-----------------------------------

Another supper this week will include
"baked" potatoes. I have another can of
cheese soup and a half pound of bacon to use
up that I can use as topping for the potatoes.

And yet another supper will include sliced
and fried potatoes with a pound of leftover
hamburger. So let's call it my own version
of a hamburger helper.

And that should use up all the potatoes I had.
I try to let nothing go to waste around here.

--------------------------------------

I get so tired of remotes missing around here.
I have even thought about getting a couple
of those whistle or clap key locator things
to put on them but
even at half off wasn't willing to pay $10 each
for them. So I'm hunting down some string
and will tie the darn things to my coffee table!
About like a banker's pen chained to the desk.

I don't know why they don't have pagers on them
like cordless phones!!!

Today AEP replaced our old electric meter
with a new Smart Meter. Here is more information
about it in case you are lucky enough to get one:

What is a Smart Meter?

A Smart Meter is a digital electric meter equipped with wireless communications technology. Smart Meters are a key part of establishing the smart electric grid of the future. Smart Meters help consumers better manage their use of energy, saving money and reducing their impact on the environment. From AEPOhio.com

What can Smart Meters do for me?

By using Smart Meters, customers can receive information about their daily energy usage and price signals that communicate when they can use electricity at a reduced rate. In addition, AEP Ohio can speed service restoration through better information about the facilities involved and can provide faster response to certain customer service requests, such as meter reading and service connection.

Will every AEP Ohio customer receive a Smart Meter?

For the AEP Ohio gridSMART Demonstration Project, 110,000 Smart Meters will be installed in northeast central Ohio. The project site consists of approximately 150 square miles of urban and suburban neighborhoods, including parts of Columbus, Blendon, Clinton, Gahanna, New Albany, Worthington, Jefferson, Johnstown, Mifflin, Minerva Park, Plain, Reynoldsburg, Sharon, Westerville, and Pataskala. (See the enclosed maps for a detailed view of the project area.)

Will special rates be offered to consumers during this project?

AEP Ohio will explore offering customers in the project area various time-differentiated pricing options that will help customers use energy more wisely by shifting energy use off-peak hours when electricity can be less expensive.

What are off-peak hours?

Off-peak hours refer to the time of day when less energy is being used across the service territory.

Kids are off today and have been watching Myth Busters.
They love that show! So here is my experiment for today...

I'm trying my theory again today with the pans of
boiling water on the stove. Today I put the same 2 pots
on the stove with just water and a dash of salt in each one.

Yesterday I had mentioned when I had 2 pots of boiling
potatoes on the stove the temperature in the house went up 3 degrees.
So I want to see if the steam from those pots actually
caused a temperature increase in the house.

Right now the temperature in here is 73
with the furnace kicking on and off.
The weather is cooler at
30 degrees but feels like 20 outside.

Yesterday it was 38 but felt like 34.

So waiting to see if I can get the thermostat
to read higher than what it's set for.
Results to come.

1:30pm - put pots of water on stove. 73 degrees.

2:10 - temperature now 74 degrees. 50 minutes later.

2:30 - no temperature change. Still holding at 74, hasn't fallen.
Turned off pots. 1 hour later.

3:30 - the temperature just dropped down
to 73, so it remained at a steady 74 for for 1 hour and 28 minutes.

4:30 - still 73 degrees and has not dropped below.
2 hours 20 minutes later without furnace kicking on.

5:20 - furnace kicked on for the first time
since 2:10pm, a total of 3 hours and 10 minutes
without the furnace running due to humidity
in the house helping to hold the temperature
at 73.

Tonight was hair cut night for two of the boys.
I'm not doing Jonathan's as I don't want to
irritate any ear ache.

Laundry day for me.

To save money on buying shower curtains
I save the one I have and if it starts
to get dirty I take it down and throw
it in the washer with hot water, detergent
and a little bleach.

I have had my shower curtain for at least 5 years.
It is a thicker kind of curtain, not one
found at a dollar store, so it holds up more
and doesn't tear where the hooks go.

------------------------------------

Had a 10 pound bag of potatoes I had to use
up before they went bad. Put 2 large pots
of potatoes on the stove to boil them.

If you don't have a vaporizer or humidifier
then I suggest boiling a pot of water on the stove.

I had no vaporizers or the humidifier running
today when boiling my potatoes. The temperature
shot up 3 degrees in the house from the humidity
of the steam and holding steady without the furnace
kicking on!

------------------------------------

The kids are becoming bored. We may take them over
to Petland on Bethel Rd. To us it's like a free
petting zoo. It's a pretty big place over there
with lots of animals.
They have a turtle that roams the store
and all kinds of fuzzy creatures in open cages
for the kids to pet.
The parrots or Macaws can get quite loud!
And other birds sit on ropes that hang from the
ceiling.
The last time we visited one swooped down and
perched on my head as I was walking by.
Tony thought that was the funniest thing.

--------------------------------

Here's a video taken at Petland.
The Macaw was taking a nap most of our
time there. When he awoke he was a jabber Macaw!!
He'd make laughing noises and whistle at you.
He was funny with all his different sounds
and movements. He got the other birds in cages
next to him wound up and it got pretty loud
in there!!

Well this evening didn't go exactly as planned.
We did go to Petland BUT afterwards ended
up at Urgent Care due to Jonathan developing
an ear ache.

He did have a 101 degree temp Friday eve but
by Saturday the fever broke then hung
around the 99 mark and he was up and being active.
I knew something was up though to have a fever
out of the blue.

The wait at Urgent Care(in Dublin)was almost
2 hours. Jonathan was crying from ear pain
so Tony left and went to Giant Eagle to
get him some Ibuprofen. I gave Jonathan
some when he got back. By the time
we were seen the Ibuprofen had kicked
in and took his pain away, thank goodness.
Doc said he had an ear infection
in his left ear and possibly starting in his right.
Got a prescription for amoxicillin. But can't get til
tomorrow as the pharmacies are closed.

Ibuprofen seems to take the pain away so will
apply the rotating of Ibuprofen and Tylenol to get
through til tomorrow morning.

For those that don't know how to rotate Ibuprofen
and Tylenol....

start with let's say Ibuprofen.
Then in another 4 hours give them Tylenol.
Then another 4 hours Ibuprofen.
Then another 4 hours Tylenol
and so on as needed.

This is something doctors has told me to
do over the years to keep the pain medicine
flowing in them without wearing off.

There are 24 hour pharmacy but we decided to
wait til tomorrow morning to get the prescription
because we hadn't had supper and it was going
on 8pm. Jonathan is doing much better now
that he has Ibuprofen in him so should make
it through the night with pain meds and a heating
pad on his ear or even the bed warmer.
