12-10-10

Christopher's birthday is coming up at the
beginning of January so I've been looking
for ideas for a cake to make.
I thought this Firetruck cake was cute
and somewhat easy to make.
There's a how to video with it also from Betty Crocker.
I'm not saying this is what I'm gonna make
as I am still getting ideas.

2:00pm

Back from doing all our running around.
Got the plates transferred to our vehicle
and they didn't charge me a late fee thank goodness.

If anyone has answers to my question below
I would love to hear it!!

This is in regards to the car we just purchased
and I wish I had some answers.

How is it that the paper work the car lot gave
me said I paid $2599 for the car and paid $176 in taxes
BUT the title the car lot had done said on it
that we paid $1500 as purchase price and
paid $101 in taxes???

We traded in our vehicle and got $1500 for it.
And we paid $1099 cash so between
the both was $2599.

I AM SO CONFUSED RIGHT NOW!!

Trying to find answers online is making my head spin.
This is what I was able to find and my story of this
recent car purchase.

We bought this car at a car lot, a fancy car lot at that
with high dollar sports or luxury cars.
The dealer NEVER once spoke of this car as being
a salvage car!!! Which would have SERIOUSLY
affected our decision with purchasing this vehicle
if we had been told that ahead of time!!

We completed
the sale and assumed that this car was a regular car,
meaning not a salvage.
I just signed paper work and didn't look it over too
thoroughly as I thought it was just regular stuff I had
gone through before when buying a "regular" car.

We noticed in all the paperwork
a day or two later
that when it asked body type, it said "rebuild".
I wasn't quite sure what that meant but
had my suspicions.
And sure enough when I picked up the title
30 days later
it said salvage rebuild!!

This is so unfair
and I told the owner that he was shady for doing
me that way. I told him he should of told us up
front that the vehicle was a salvage instead of
sneaking it into my paperwork. Oh he said he
did tell me.
I said, YOU DID NOT! (I got a little loud and upset with him when he said that. I don't like a lier!) or else I would
have probably run from this lot!!
I am so tired of his lies and smooth talking
to get out of things!!
I even have my husband and 2 children as
witnesses to verify he never told us up front!!

Now they say it's a done deal and they are not liable
for anything because the paperwork said and I quote
"rebuild" on it for body type.
It did NOT say SALVAGE TITLE on it like
the title does.

Shouldn't a car lot have to tell you up front when considering
a car if it's a salvage car.

What is a salvage car?
A car that is a total loss and has
been compensated by an insurance company
for it's loss.
A salvage car is not worth as much as an identical
car with a regular title!!
What is a salvage rebuild. The exact car as I mentioned
above that has been put back together
again and made road worthy.
Yes it would have to pass inspection from what
I read to get a title for it.
But that does not guarantee it's safety in the long run.

NOWHERE on my paperwork from the car lot
does it say salvage title!! It says rebuild and that's it
and that is under body type.

Some notes I took from the internet.

Lemon Laws

  • Marketing the car to potential buyers by advertising in a local paper, making flyers or posting an ad online are all great ideas. However, be aware that in Ohio, potential buyers are protected by Lemon Laws. Lemon Laws provide a form of compensation to consumers who unknowingly purchased a defective vehicle. Any problems or known defects with the vehicle must be disclosed prior to the sale completion.

    from Lawyers.com

Non Disclosure of Salvage Vechicle title

.Is there a statue of Limitations for suing a small car lot for nondiscloser of Salvage Title on Vechile?

Well, a vehicle purchase from a car lot generally involves a written contract.

So if the written contract does not say salvage title on the contract and you later get the title that says salvage on it, I'd say you have a cause of action for a breach of contract lawsuit.

The SOL is 4 years. It's also 4 years for an oral contract. But if you bought a car on an oral contract it'd be your word against the dealer's that he didn't tell you about the salvage title.

.I have nothing in my contract or paperwork that discloses salvage title..

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

So what the heck do I do now as I feel like
we were cheated at this car lot?

    Other concerns-

The owner of the car lot said he would replace
and fix the cluster gauge on the car.
It has been over a month and still no cluster
    gauge.

He also told us he would check out the
power mirrors that weren't working along with something
else that I can't remember at the moment.
I keep reading that a verbal agreement from
a car lot salesman is a binding contract!

Plus I also now have a receipt where it clearly states
they will fix this! I even said I would take the cluster gauge
and put it in myself instead of waiting around on them
to fix it. The owner of the car lot said he would
personally deliver it to my house.
    Yeah right!

So do we have a legal case here or not?
Who do we contact to get some answers?
Do we take the title to the title place and
ask them if the paperwork and title should
say two different prices & taxes.
Someone said to ask the car lot why it is different.
I'm not asking them! They'll just give me the run
    around and more lies.

We do worry if that we could take action
against them that they (or someone else that they
know) could come to our house and cause problems
whether causing damage to our home or vehicles
    and things of the sort.

I am getting a migraine at the moment just trying
to think about all this. We have bought and sold
many cars over the years and NEVER had a problem
    like this before.

Anyone have a family or friend lawyer?
I really could use some answers right about now!

    Happy thought!!

Fed Ex man came and knocked on the door,
I got me a nice Christmas present from Downy!!
    Doing happy dance.
Me and Tony was literally jumping up and down
for joy, high fiving one another.
    We both had goosebumps!

    WHAT'S FOR SUPPER

    Corned Beef Wonton Dumpling Soup

Yeah I made this up also, lol.
Trying to use what I had on hand.

I was finally able to find some corned
    beef in a can, yeah!
Of all places I found it at Big Lots!

I got out my wonton wrappers
and placed a 1/2 tablespoon of corned
beef in the middle. dipped finger in water
and ran around edges. Then brought up
the four corners of the wontons to the
    middle and pinched to seal.
    I boiled them up.
I had gotten that far then wondered what I was going
to make with them so started looking to see
what I had sitting on the shelf. I then spotted
a couple cans of Campbell's Select Harvest soup.
1 can beef & vegetable (kids) & 1 can french onion (us).
So I divided up each can into two bowls.
Then added the dumplings and mixed into the soup.

Not too bad for something just thrown together!
Now mind you I have never use wontons before
and picked them up because they were
a manager special and wanted to try something new.
For 4 bowls of soup I only used a half package
    of wontons.

    1 can corned beef $2.00
    1/2 pkg wontons .75 cents
    2 cans soup $1.50

    TOTAL COST $4.25
    4 servings @ $1.06 a serving

    Raisin Baking Tip

    Soak Cooking Raisins in Liquid

Whenever a recipe calls for raisins, before adding them, I always soak them in a liquid that goes with the recipe. Praline liqueur or rum for bread pudding, apple or orange juice for cookies, breads, etc. This adds flavor, produces a moister dish and for a few pennies the raisins look so much more extravagant.

    -------------------------------------------

Still taking notes about salvage titles

    .

A salvage car is one that has been involved in a major accident and been deemed to not be worth repairing by an insurance company. Once an insurance company declares a vehicle, it pays the maximum market value of the vehicle to the insured and then disposes of the vehicle by auction it off to the highest bidder.

The vehicle is then issued a special type of title by the states where the vehicle is registered. A salvage title vehicle is often difficult insurer, has a stigma that is always attached to it and is worth nowhere near as much as than comparable vehicle that has a clean title -- even if the vehicle has been restored to 100% operating condition.

While most state and federal laws require a used car dealer or private seller of a vehicle with a salvage title to disclose the fact to the buyer, some unscrupulous sellers did not. So, here is some on common scam car scams associated with salvage titles that you should be aware of.

    9:15pm

    Just got done making my
    Ginger Lime Macaroons.
I've never made macaroons before so this was my first :0)
I am now waiting for them to cool then
will melt down some white chocolate
and dip the bottoms of them in it.
I can say this, I am not a big fan of coconut unless
it is toasted. Before they were baked I was nibbling
it out of the bowl, lol, the lime in it was awesome!

    12-9-10

    7:25am

I only have 4 more Christmas gifts to get
and our Christmas shopping will be done, woo hoo.
One gift was getting some microfiber cloths from
Dollar Tree and working on making some pads
today for the steam mop. I traced the bottom
of the steam mop onto a piece of paper and stuck
it in my purse. This way I know to get the correct
size of cloth for it. I'm hoping Dollar Tree also carries
velcro for the bottoms of the pads.

    -----------------------------------

    .
Now Designs Classic Cherries Oven Mitt.
    For you non-bakers out there-
Here's a quick & easy idea for a Christmas gift.
Take an oven mitt, get a box or pouch of cookie
mix or brownie mix and put it into a zip bag and seal.
Those Krusteaz cookie mixes are still on sale
this week at Kroger for $1.49 when you buy 10.
Some boxes have $1.10 (doubled) coupons on them
    making them .49 cents each.
Next print out the baking instructions and
glue or tape them to an index card. Wrap a large
ribbon around finger part of mitt and slide
directions under ribbon. You could also
insert a wooden spoon in the glove also.
    Oven mitt- $1.00
    cookie mix- .49 cents
    wooden spoon- .33 cents
(you might be able to find packages
with more than one wooden spoon in it at Dollar Tree)

    TOTAL COST FOR GIFT: $1.82
You could also jazz up the cookie mix
and include baggies of nuts, raisins,
gum drops and so on to give it a more
    homemade look.
This gift would be great for teachers!
    Price at Big Lots $5.00
You would save $3.18 on each one by making your own.

    WHAT'S FOR SUPPER?

    Meatball Poppers
    with mozarella stuffed meatballs

    Ingredients You’ll Need:

    • 1 1lb of ground beef
    • 1/2 cup Italian Bread Crumbs
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 sticks of mozzarella string cheese

Step 1 – Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine bread crumbs, egg and ground beef. Mix thouroughly, best if done by hand. This would be a good time to enlist the help of the freshly washed hands of an older child or husband.

    meatball mixture

Step 2 - Cut each mozzarella cheese stick into 6 evenly sized cubes.

Step 3 – Roll a hunk of the meat mixture into a ball about the size of a golf ball, slightly flatten the meatball and push a cheese cube right into the center. Smooth your meatball back into shape and place on a greased baking sheet.

    cheese stuffed meatball

Step 4 – Once all 12 meatballs are ready, bake for 25 minutes.

    baking meatballs

    My changes to this recipe:

Mozarella cheese sticks were too expensive to
buy so instead I bought a block of Kroger brand
mozarella cheese for $2.50. I plan to slice
and cube the cheese to put inside the meatballs.

Once meatballs have been cooked then I want
to wrap them in biscuits rolled in butter then rolled
into a mixture of bread crumbs, garlic salt &
parmesan cheese and bake according to
    directions on biscuit can.

Serve with tomato sauce like pizza or spaghetti sauce.

    -------------------------------------

WHAT'S BAKING IN THE OVEN TONIGHT?

    Coconut Macaroons

    Ingredients

    • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
    • 5 1/2 cups flaked coconut
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
    2. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, coconut and salt. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla using your hands until well blended. Use an ice cream scoop to drop dough onto the prepared cookie sheets. Cookies should be about golf ball size.
    3. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until coconut is toasted.
And of course I can't leave well enough alone
and have to make changes of my own to this recipe also, lol!

Reduce vanilla extract to 1/2 tsp. and add 2 teaspoons freshly
squeezed lime juice and 2 teaspoons
    grated lime zest.
Also add in 1/8 teaspoon ginger to milk.

Once baked & cooled dip bottoms
of macaroons into white melted chocolate.
    (Ginger Lime Macaroons)

TIP: If you don't have a lime handy
try mixing some lime flavored jello
    into the sweetened condensed milk.

    -------------------------------------------

    My Meatball Poppers
    VERY filling!!
I had two of the six I dished up!
Served with a bacon ranch dressing
because I didn't have any spaghetti sauce.
    .

    -----------------------------------------------

    9:00pm

Just finished making two steam mop pads.
I sandwiched a terry cloth towel between
two microfiber towels to make them.
I sewed on velcro then machine
    quilted them together.
    .

    ---------------------------------------------

I didn't get my macaroons made tonight.
Kinda short on coconut so will splurge and
    pick some up tomorrow.

This week I spent around $27 on groceries trying
to cut back and use things up in the pantry.
    $27 ain't much I know for a family of 4
so let's see how far I stretched it. I ended up getting enough meat for 8 meals.

-5.09 pound package of hamburger (manager special)
    -pkg. of Italian sausage.
    -pound of ground sausage
    -pound of bacon.
    -2 two liters of pop.
    -pkg. broccoli.
-2 pkgs cheese & broccoli rice.
-6 butterfinger candy bars (free after coupons)
    -2 cans sweetened condensed milk.
    -2 gallons milk.
    -block of mozarella cheese
    -coconut

    -------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow we need to get the plates
transferred over to our car. I forgot about
that expense so there's about $53, maybe more. grrr.
We bought the car Nov. 8th.
Got a temporary tag for $30-$40.
During that 30 day period my plates expired
so I'm sure they are gonna wanna slap me
with a $20 late fee on top of the regular fees
for transferring my plates and getting
my renewal sticker. Which would suck
after paying for the temporary tag and I didn't
even have these plates on the car yet because
    of the temporary plate.
So it's quite possible I might have to
come up with a total of $75 or more for plates.
Will wait and see. I hope not.

    Stopping by the bank tomorrow.
I was able to round up 11 of my survey checks
for $33 to put in the bank along
with the check from scrapping metal so
there's some free money to help out.
I am still awaiting my prize from Downy.
(tapping fingers on table wondering when it will come)
