8:00pm

I got three boys hair cut today.
Still have Tony's to do in the near future.

Finally chilling for the evening watching Waterboy.
And also doing some research for some
recipes, like ones for diabetics.

Need to figure out how to change our diet
and a way to do it that we can afford.
I don't know if you have noticed but most
things with coupons are for things that are not healthy
for you.
I say most, because there are a couple that are good for you.

I feel most Americans are overweight because
the unhealthy foods are cheaper and lower income
families can only afford to eat just that.
Fresh produce is more expensive because
it has a limited shelf life unlike things on shelves
which are packed full of preservatives, salts, fats, carbs & sugar.

This will be sooo hard considering we've been
eating like we have for most of our lives.

So you will see me starting to take notes
about what to eat.

----------------------

What are healthy ways to eat starches?

  • Buy whole grain breads and cereals.

  • Eat fewer fried and high-fat starches such as regular tortilla chips and potato chips, french fries, pastries, or biscuits. Try pretzels, fat-free popcorn, baked tortilla chips or potato chips, baked potatoes, or low-fat muffins.

  • Use low-fat or fat-free plain yogurt or fat-free sour cream instead of regular sour cream on a baked potato.

  • Use mustard instead of mayonnaise on a sandwich.

  • Use low-fat or fat-free substitutes such as low-fat mayonnaise or light margarine on bread, rolls, or toast.

  • Eat cereal with fat-free (skim) or low-fat (1%) milk.

----------------------
.
Following is a sample diabetic diet meal :

One serving of protein (3 oz of chicken, lean beef or fish)
One serving of bread (whole grain roll, tortilla or ½ cup pasta)
One serving of dairy (cheese, milk or low-fat sour cream)
One serving vegetables (fist sized portion or a small bowl of salad)
One serving fruit (tennis ball sized or ½ cup sliced)
Small amounts of unsaturated fats are needed, so add a little dressing or a pat of soft margarine. Avoid sweets; consider the fruit your dessert!

Foods that should be avoided include; fatty red meat, organ meat, highly processed food, fried food, fast food, high cholesterol food and foods rich in saturated fat.

-----------------

Try these six simple steps to get started:

Using your dinner plate, put a line down the middle of the plate.

  1. Then on one side, cut it again so you will have 3 sections on your plate.
  2. Fill the largest section with non-starchy vegetables such as:
    1. spinach, carrots, lettuce, greens, cabbage, bok choy
    2. green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes,
    3. vegetable juice, salsa, onion, cucumber, beets, okra,
    4. mushrooms, peppers, turnip
  3. Now in one of the small sections, put starchy foods such as:
    1. whole grain breads, such as whole wheat or rye
    2. whole grain, high-fiber cereal
    3. cooked cereal such as oatmeal, grits, hominy, or cream of wheat
    4. rice, pasta, dal, tortillas
    5. cooked beans and peas, such as pinto beans or black-eyed peas
    6. potatoes, green peas, corn, lima beans, sweet potatoes, winter squash
    7. low-fat crackers and snack chips, pretzels, and fat-free popcorn
  4. And then on the other small section, put your meat or meat substitutes such as:
    1. chicken or turkey without the skin
    2. fish such as tuna, salmon, cod, or catfish
    3. other seafood such as shrimp, clams, oysters, crab, or mussels
    4. lean cuts of beef and pork such as sirloin or pork loin
    5. tofu, eggs, low-fat cheese
  5. Add an 8 oz glass of non-fat or low-fat milk. If you don’t drink milk, you can add another small serving of carb such as a 6 oz. container of light yogurt or a small roll.
    1. And a piece of fruit or a 1/2 cup fruit salad and you have your meal planned. Examples are fresh, frozen, or canned in juice or frozen in light syrup or fresh fruit.

Breakfast

Your plate will look different at breakfast but the idea is the same. If you use a plate or bowl for breakfast, keep your portions small. Use half your plate for starchy foods. You can ad fruit in the small part and a meat or meat substitute in the other..

Sorry I haven't posted much today.

Had a baby shower to attend earlier.

11-3:30pm

that included drive time.

Wasn't home long when we headed out to Hoover

to walk what seemed like several miles.

Then from there to Walmart.

Got home about 7:45pm.

Ate supper. It's now 8:35pm

and I am just now finding time to sit down

and relax for today.

Here's some pics from Hoover today.

The water was soooo blue and beautiful!

Our family tradition now is come October or Fall

we go to Hoover and walk around when the water is down.

We treasure hunt looking for old bottles.
We have found about 8 now including

the one the kids found in the back yard.

We have 2 Pepsi, 1 Coke, 1 Mylanta and other misc.

ones I don't know what they are.

Hoping to get them all cleaned up and put

on display.

I had never seen so many Turkey Buzzards all at once!

.........I think this is my favorite picture taken today :0)

Looks like a puzzle picture!

.----------------------------------------------

I know I have expressed how much the water is down

at Hoover Reservoir.

I found pictures from last October and want

you to see comparison of this October

and the water levels.

While it's hard to believe, each set of

pictures are of the same area!

Supper: Flat bread open faced tacos.
I made homemade flat bread and after frying
them up found out they were too difficult
to fold over and make tacos out of them
without cracking.
I made Tony a double stack while
the rest of us had a single.
Topped with the remaining grape tomatoes
I had in the garden.

.-------------------------------------------

Was sitting here trying to think of cheap things
for my mom & step-dad to do since they are
both retired.

At Cinemark Theaters on Bethel Rd.
on Mondays they have these specials:

Every Monday with parties of 3 or more
get admission for only .75 cents!!

.
.

Seniors every Monday get $1.00 admission
to any show any time.

When we go, we try to go before 6pm
and admission is only $1.50.
We tell kids ahead of time we ARE NOT
buying any food or drinks when we are only there for an hour
and a half movie, they can survive that long!
It's way too expensive!
My purse is big enough to sneak pop/water in if need be, lol.

I see Toy Story 3 has finally made it to
this theater! So maybe we might take
the kids to see it this weekend.
They also have Toy Story 3 in 3D.
None of us has seen a 3D movie
so might splurge to see what it is all about.
3D movies cost an additional $2.oo
on top of normal admission price.

Do you know how much it costs to see
the same Toy Story movie at AMC Easton Town Center.
Well I'll tell you and show you how much you save
by going to Cinemark.

AMC Theaters:
Adult $9.50
Child $6.50
Senior $8.50

Cinemark for 2 adults 2 kids (no 3D): $6.00
AMC for 2 adults 2 kids: $32.00

TOTAL SAVED by going to Cinemark: $26.00!!!!!!

5:40pm

Woo Hoo, just did another survey worth 2 bucks.
Now up to $43.80.

---------------------------------------

6:50pm

I think I spent the last hour on designing
a glade candle holder for the contest they
are having. It is a pain in the you know what
to do. But I did it because everyone has
been encouraging me to do it.
I have 2 entries so far
and feel that this second entry is much
better than the first one!
I'll let you know the link once
it makes it on the web site :0)

----------------------------------

Woo Hoo, another $2.00 survey.
Now up to $45.80.
Had quite a few that after about half way
through a survey would tell me not qualified.
I hate those kinds but keep trying
with other ones.

-----------------------------------

8:15pm
Did yet another survey from another survey site
for $3.00. On a roll tonight.
Some surveys seem soooo long and boring though!

------------------------------------

8:20pm

Well I am getting tired.
So might head to bed to watch some tv.

10-13-10

I'm not a coffee drinker but will occasionally
get a latte or cappucino.
On our return trip from Hoover yesterday evening
I stopped in Speedway and got a caramel latte.
It was really good and gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling,
perfect for the cooler weather.
But I made the mistake of drinking this a couple
hours before bedtime.
I did not sleep too well last night tossing
and turning and constantly waking up.
So my eyeballs feel shriveled up this morning
like they could just fall outta my head!
For sure gonna get a nap in today!
Need a little rest before this evening
as I've got 2 shows coming on tonight I want to watch.
9pm SyFy- Ghost Hunters
10pm Discovery - a new season of Storm Chasers
I've also been getting into a show called
Rehab, Party at the Hard Rock Hotel.
The new shows come on at 10pm Tuesdays on truTV.

As for Hoover, I have never seen it this low before.
In some places you could walk out to the middle
of the reservoir!
.
.....

10:45AM

Got a gingerbread going in the oven at the moment.
Trying out a spring form pan for the first time
so will see how it goes.
I greased and floured it before hand.
I did not put anything like foil into the bottom
of it and 10 minutes into baking no leaks, whew!
The gingerbread mix was more watery than
what a cake mix is.
Once baked I'll let it sit and cool the rest of the day
and work on the rest of my recipe this evening.

I really wanted to get some flat bread done up
in the bread machine today but don't think
I have the energy to do it at the moment.

-------------------------------------------

11:15AM

Well I got an eye opener just now.
Just a lil bit because they still feel as though
they are shriveling up like raisins.

Anyway if I had a video of me at the moment
it would look a little something like this, LMAO!!
So it's a good thing no one can see me at the moment!
..

Downy called or should I say Proctor & Gamble.
They are changing the prize for the contest.
Instead of winning a trip to Proctor & Gamble
they are now doing away with that and sending
out a check.

HAPPY DANCE!!!!!

And damn it, I still forgot to ask what scent
I entered won. Guess I'll just have to wait til
it hits the stores and let y'all know, lol.

The lady told me it could take 30-60 days for
the check to arrive.
Just in time for Christmas!!
I'm not saying I would spend that amount on
Christmas gifts, but it sure would help
to build up the savings account
with any extra expenses for the holidays!

Tonight for supper we had Minute Man pizza and subs.
Was too tired to bake up some flat bread today for Chalupas.
I wanted to celebrate my new prize winnings
so pizza sounded good since another one of their
$6.99 coupons came in the mail today.

I most always get the hand tossed crust.
This has the thicker crust along the edges of the pizza.
Many people would eat their pizza up to the edge crust
and throw it away.
I've been telling the kids if they don't eat their crusts
to save them for later on.
We eat them like bread sticks with a little
spaghetti sauce or ranch dressing as dip.
Wrap crusts in a wet, wrung out paper towel,
and put into microwave a few seconds to warm.
Why let food go to waste.
And why spend the money for an order of bread sticks.

Well I might go work on a cheesecake.
I'm debating on a box no bake cheesecake mix
or a homemade baked one.
This is for the TOH contest.

Cheesecake is in the oven.
I went with a baked one.

But before I go I wanted to show

I also made some homemade maple
whipped cream to go on top :0p
