12-16-09 COOKIE BAKING MODE

Here's a sampling of the cookies, bars and treats I am working on.

Rice Krispie Treats with bubble gum sprinkles. Wrapped with shoestring
licorice and a bow to look like a present. Click photo to enlarge as
they look better when bigger. No it's not easy making bows with licorice!

Chocolate Chip Cookies with caramel apple candy corn as decoration.

Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies. While these have been baked they are not done.
Remember I told you Tony wanted me to jazz up all the cookies to look more homemade?
Well these will be made into Puppy Chow Cookies. I will cover them in the
chocolate peanut butter mix then coat with a powdered sugar.

And that's as far as I have gotten tonight.

Will be full speed ahead tomorrow as that's the last day I have to do cookies.
They get shipped off to work and school Friday! Ahhh!

Tony's potluck today went over real well! He said people kept complimenting
him on the baked beans with bacon wrapped smokies. I always get worried
when trying things for the first time and sending them out as gifts or potluck items.
Here is the recipe for them along with the baked beans.

Bacon Wrapped Little Smokies

1 pkg. Lil' Smokies cocktail sausages
1 lb. bacon
1 c. brown sugar

Cut bacon into 2 1/2 - 3 inch strips. (I cut each piece of bacon into thirds) Wrap one strip around each sausage. Secure it with a toothpick. (You don't need to do this as they will hold together if you put seem side down on cookie sheet) Roll each piece in brown sugar until coated. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 - 30 minutes, or until bacon is done.

Baked Beans

1 very large can pork and beans
1/4 cup spicy mustard
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar BBQ sauce
1 onion finely chopped
1/2 package bacon, chopped up into small pieces

Fry bacon and onions together. Drain grease.
Add all the above to crockpot. Then add the bacon wrapped weenies.
Cook on low for a couple hours til heated through.

Now as for his gift exchange that was another story. Remember I sent the cookie jar filled with goodies and a heated drink mug? Well there was another person that had a cookie jar gift idea but I don't think they filled it with goodies.
I spent most of yesterday morning trying to decide what to buy for his gift exchange.
I worried over making sure I got something nice.
Well let me tell ya some people brought the most crappiest gifts one could think of. I just sit and shake my head and wonder what is wrong with people!
Ok Tony received 2 beer cozies. Ya know those thin foam things that go over a beer bottle. Oh boy gee someone really put thought into that one! Oh and it gets even better. Then there was a can of ravioli someone wrapped up and gifted!! I am not kidding! And if you think that was bad check this next one out...a bag of Depends!!!! I wish Tony would have traded his cozies for those!! I used those things on kids at night!! All in all no one knew who brought in what gift. But Tony did tell me his good friend got his gift. At least I know it was appreciated.

12-16-09 PRACTICAL CHRISTMAS GIFTS

Older teens would love getting their own goody box of food.
My teen is 19.

Here are some things I am considering putting in my son's box for Christmas:

-chips
-pretzels
-corn chips
-nacho chips
-popcorn
-pop tarts
-breakfast bars
-cereal
-12 packs of pop
-ramen noodles

Instead of buying the snack pack sized bags of chips which are overly priced I bought large regular sized bags of chips.
Then buy some cheap store brand zip lock baggies and divide those chips into smaller bags.

I am also considering making a box full of bathroom items for him.
I can use freebies or cheapie items I've collect throughout the year
bought with all those coupons. Those items would include:

-deodorant
-shampoo
-body wash
-toothpaste
-asprin
-cologne
