10-18-10

Yesterday at Kroger:

Spent about $14.00

5 lb package boneless pork ribs
$5.89
was $9.85

pkg of 12 turkey sausage links $1.00 marked down

package American cheese slices $1.50

package cubed ham $2.50

5 bottle Kroger 2 liters $4.00

--------------------------------------------

Yesterday we also took the kids to see
Toy Story 3 in 3D.
They LOVED it!
For the 4 of us to see it cost $14.00.
Regular price is $1.50 each person
plus an additional $2.00 each to see the 3D movie.
They also had a regular Toy Story movie
for $1.50 a person but we wanted to
experience our first 3D movie
so opted for the other one.

10:00am

Just returned from Meijers.
You know what my biggest pet peeve is about
using coupons is?
When they scan bar codes on the merchandise
you buy, those items are listed on your receipt
under their actual names.
BUT scan the bar code to a coupon
and those coupons on your receipts
don't say what the coupon is for,
only how much was taken off.
So if a cashier didn't take one of your
coupons off then it's hard to argue over it
when taking your receipt to the service desk.

I had this problem today.
I felt my total bill was $2.00 more than it should
have been and after looking at my receipt
and comparing it with my detailed grocery list
(detailed meaning I list all items, how much of each item,
sales price,
non sales price, how many coupons, how much
the coupons are for, whether it was a store coupon or a manufacture coupon and total after price of each item)
I could pretty much narrow it down to what
coupons were not taken off.
BUT try proving that to the service desk!! HA!
They have no way of knowing!
That's why when they scan these coupons
it should say at the bottom of the receipts
what each product the coupon was used for!!

Anyway I got back my $2.00. I knew I was frustrating
the lady at the service desk because she got to the
point that she said she would just give me my $2.00
because she had a line of people to deal with.
BUT when I turned to walk away there was only
one man waiting in line. There was 2 service
desk people so there was really no hurry.

I know some stores don't like me because of using
coupons. I have had cashiers tell me I was committing
coupon fraud (which I WAS NOT!).
I have had managers tell me their stores are
loosing money when I use coupons.
I have heard it all!
They act as though I am trying to rob them!
They get irritated when I catch their mistakes
and when I find they missed one of my coupons.
Hey I ain't robbing or cheating no one.
The manufacturers want you to use those coupons
to buy their products or else they wouldn't make them.
I have a strict grocery budget so I don't have room
for any mistakes to be made.
I check my receipts for mistakes like a hawk.
If anyone should be mad it should be me!!
Some people just don't give a hoot to checking receipts
or keep track of things bought or if they are
even being charged the right amount.
I look at it this way.
Say they overcharged me each weekly visit of $2.00
x's 52 weeks in a year is $104!!!
That to me is like 2 1/2 more grocery trips
I could have made!!
So yeah it is VERY important to check those receipts
no matter how small the amount was
they overcharged you.
IT ALL ADDS UP OVER TIME!!

---------------------------------------

Anyway here is what I got at Meijers today.
Notice I have been trying to start buying
healthier items when and where I can.

Borax Laundry Booster $3.42

-----------------------------------------

I am wanting to start making my own
liquid laundry detergent.

I have done all the calculations for
you according to the prices of
Borax, Arm & Hammer Washing Soda & Zote bar soap
at Meijers today.

It is SOOOO MUCH CHEAPER
to make your own laundry soap
& fabric softener!!!!!!!
I can't stress how much cheaper it is so will try to show you.

Finding the bar soap called Zote in Meijers is a little tricky.
At one time I found it with the regular soaps you use on
your body, which this is not body soap but laundry soap.
I asked an employee and they said it was in the laundry
isle. Not there either. So asked another employee.
It was finally found in the foreign isle with stuff
like Chinese & Mexican food. Go figure!!
I looked up who made Suavitel and it's not so foreign
when it's made by COLGATE!

And I want to add that this soap is
great for those that may have sensitive
skin like babies or people with allergies
to different perfumes
and can't use regular laundry detergent!

It says you can add essential oils which
I have priced on Ebay.
Most are in ml.
I searched and found that it is
20 to 25 drops of essential oil per ml.
Here is the cheapest on Ebay with shipping.
You would add one bottle of this to one
homemade laundry soap.
Sweet orange 1.5 ml $2.22
they also have tea tree, peppermint, cinnamon,
eucalyptus, bergamont (orange citrus smell),
cedar, lemongrass (citronella smell), lemon,
grapefruit, geranium,
tangerine, lime, ginger, pine, wintergreen,
spearmint, nutmeg, cypress, lavender.

Just trying to decide upon a scent.
You would think I would be good at this considering
the Downy contest and all, LOL!
How about sweet orange ginger?
Could be a man or woman scent.

Below you will find the recipe for 10 gallons of homemade laundry detergent
from the Duggars web site.
It makes enough to do 180 loads of laundry
using 5/8 cup per load (10 Tablespoons).
I figured out the costs,
and it only costs $1.78 for 180 loads!!!!
Now go price laundry soap the next time
your in the store!!
Oh wait, I'll even do that for ya to see.
Walmart:

180 loads of Tide (two 90 load bottles- 180 loads) $41.00
64 load of Dreft for babies (3- 62 load bottles 186 loads) $48.00
96 load of All (2- 96 load bottles 192 loads) $22.00

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap- Front or top load machine- best value

4 Cups - hot tap water
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup - Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda*
½ Cup Borax

- Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.

-Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.

-Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water. Shake before each use. (will gel)

-Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.

-Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.

-Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next I want to stretch my fabric softener.

Here is another recipe from the Duggars.

.

1 Container of Name Brand Fabric Softener
4 Inexpensive sponges, cut in half

Pour entire container of softener into a 5 gallon bucket. Fill empty softener container with water twice. (2 parts water to 1 part softener) Add sponges to softener/water mixture. When ready to use wring out extra mixture from one sponge and add to the dryer as you would a dryer sheet.

It does not state how many uses this makes
but it sounds like allot using this method.
I like Suavitel and can sometimes
find bottles at Walgreens with a Walgreens
coupon for buy 1 get 1 free.
So 2 bottles for about $2.50 at the most.
I like this brand because I feel it has the best scent
that stays with the clothes after it has been laundered.
And I have tried Downy and Snuggle if that tells you anything.

-------------------------------------------------

This morning I started supper in the crock.
Here is what's on the menu for this evening.

Rib Busters

4 ribs (1/2 package I bought yesterday) $2.94
1 bottle BBQ brown sugar sauce $1.00
6 potatoes (for mashed potatoes) .25

TOTAL COST: $4.19
about 7 servings @ .59 cents a serving.

------------------------------------------

5:00pm

ok I couldn't take it any longer and just wrote
Downy to see which one of my scents I entered
had won the contest. Waiting to see if I get a reply.
Ya know it would have been nice to
of been told by now!
Why they haven't told me is beyond me.

----------------------------------

6:25pm

Just ate supper not long ago.

Tony almost made it home from work
before the pager went off.
He has on call this week so that sucks!!

Sitting here at the moment making up
another Meijer grocery list.

Gonna get some more of that
$7.78 regular priced Pompeian 32 ounce
olive & canola oil blend for .78 cents!!
Sure as heck can't beat that!
They do have smaller bottles
that are 16 ounces that would be free
when used with the coupons I mentioned yesterday.
I just opted to get the larger bottles.

2 more California pizzas for .50 cents each.

4 bottles Franks Hot Sauce for Free.
Stupid me forgot those coupons today!

Jello is .50 cents each
I have $1.00 off 3 Kroger coupon
and $1.00 off 6 Meijers coupon.
So 6 boxes should be $1.00 or .16 cents each!
Remember Meijers WILL take competitor's coupons!
