10-20-10

7:30-8:00AM

Before getting the kids off to school
I was able to make up a batch homemade of liquid laundry soap!
It was very simple and quick to do.

I miscalculated how much it cost to make
because I didn't realize you had to cut
the bar soap into thirds and only use one third per batch.

It cost me about $1.25 to make about
180 loads of homemade liquid laundry detergent!!
That included me using the Dollar Store
brand of Oxyclean in my detergent!!

I cut the large bar of Zote into thirds.
Use only one third of the bar per batch made.
This bar soap has somewhat of a lemony scent.
.
Next grate the soap into small slivers.
.
It makes approximately 2 cups.
.
Next add 4 cups hot water to a sauce
pan along with the grated soap.
Over medium heat stir until soap has completely melted.
.
In a 5 gallon bucket, or an empty soap bucket,
add 1 cup washing soda, 1/2 cup Borax,
and 1/3 cup Oxyclean (optional).
Fill bucket almost full of hot tap water
and add your melted soap water.
Stir until completely combined and
powders are dissolved.
Now allow to sit for 1 day before using.
.
My honey found me this soap container with about
1 use of detergent left in it. I plan to reuse it
and put my homemade soap mixture in it.
No, not all the homemade detergent will fit in this
bottle but will make it much easier for myself to use
and move around rather than moving a 5 gallon bucket.
I will just refill it with more as it gets low.
I thought it was a neat bottle because you could
sit sideways and push the button to dispense the soap.
It also came with a cup that is about the right size
for measuring my soap for each load.
Use a little more than a half cup per load.

I got my latest issue of All You yesterday.
In the magazine was a recipe for homemade dish washing detergent!

I rarely use dryer sheets anymore and had
a couple extra boxes in the basement.
Rather than to throw them out I go around
and put a sheet in each register vent.
It makes the whole house smell good!
It also helps to filter out any dust that
may have escaped through the furnace filter.

10:45AM

I took a canning jar and filled it 2/3rds the way
full with water and 1/3rd fabric softener.
I then cut a small sponge in half and put
both pieces into the jar and screwed the lid on.
Each time I put a load of laundry in the dryer
I will remove the sponges from the jar and wring
them out then throw them in with the clothes.

I will try my darndest to keep track of how long
this lasts by doing it this way.
I will let you know when I run out
of my 1 liter bottle of fabric softener.

I saw these cookies someone did for Halloween.
While it didn't say how they decorated it
I figured you could frost each cookie with white
store bought frosting leaving a space unfrosted for the eyes,
put a dab of frosting on M&M's
and add to cookies for eyes.
Take fork tines and rake through the frosting
to look like the mummies rags.

Did you know?

I thought I was doing so good starting to buy
1% milk instead of 2%.
Don't know if we will ever be able to do skim milk.
Anyway I looked on the nutritional label last night
and saw that for every cup of milk you drink
there is 12 grams of sugar!!
That to me sounds like allot of sugar we are consuming
just from milk!

I found yet another contest to consider :0P

Tonight I picked up a few things
to make my pop tart recipe possibly tomorrow.
These are the pop tarts I chose to work with.
I wanted something with little or no frosting.
I originally wanted the cinnamon with
no frosting but they didn't have any.
