11:00AM

Got all my running done for this
morning. Kroger, Walgreens,
Dollar General (didn't buy anything there),
and Dollar Tree.

But before talking about any deals
I got I wanted to tell you about
this morning before that.

I'm standing at the bus stop
waiting for the bus with the boys
when they say the truck driver
neighbor was walking our way.
Actually he walked a block from
his house to where we were at.
The bus comes and I get the kids on it.
So now I'm standing there talking
to him and hearing his sad sob stories
once again. I will tell you this, I still
did not give into any babysitting!!
He lost his after school babysitter
which was a 7th grade girl. I guess
he asked the girl which said yes but failed
to ask the mother about her babysitting!
The mother was
a little irate about her daughter
watching 2-3 kids and felt she was
not responsible enough to do so.
I guess she went off on the truck
driver neighbor yesterday when she
found out.

So I stand there listening to my neighbor
who decided to walk allllll the way down
the street just to fill my ear with
this crap of his at 8:30am this morning.

I'm sick of him trying to pawn of his
kids on someone when he himself needs
to grow up a bit and take a little
responsibility and find a babysitter.
Whether it's before and after school care
at the actual school, a church daycare,
or a daycare close by the school or
someone else.

He has bragged to us about
what kind of money he makes being
a truck driver so why not put some
of it towards good childcare somewhere??!!

Now he says he might have our other
neighbor watch them in the morning
for a couple hours then send them
to walk to the bus stop to catch the bus.
Doesn't sound like a bad idea does it.
No, not til I tell you this other
neighbor lady is 90 some years old!!
Come on now!!

Why in the heck he had to become
an over the road truck driver
being a single parent is beyond me.
If he has truck driving experience
he could have took a local route
which came home everyday!! Not
one that runs to Georgia!!

Anyway I am back home now. I had mom
drop me off at my house and I left
my truck at hers. Don't want the
neighbor thinking I am home to talk!!
How many times do you have to be
told NO before you take the hint???

a rain check.

made it $1.55 for 2 or .77 cents each

stocked up on Kroger cheese slices

Bought 5

9 two liters pop $7.20

package of cream filled cookies $1.99

2 packages Chicken strips $2.00

Kroger is marking down their
Summer items so I was checking
out their seasonal isle.

***Hey if anyone sees a great deal
on solar lights let me know.
I want some for our yard
and want to get some for mom
& Don for Christmas!!***

I found a $100 Intex Easy Set Up Pool
marked down to $25. That's 75% off!!
Or $75 off!!

I was going to get it but mom said
she would get it for the kids for
Christmas since she never knows what
to get them. That'll be about like
getting a bike, you have to wait
til warmer weather to use it.
Oh well, who says gifts have
to be seasonal?

BUT it's something the kids have
been wanting but I kept telling
them we needed a fenced yard to
have a pool like that. So are hoping
to get the yard completed this year
with the gate so I can set this up
next year.

The pool even includes a pump & filter
which will be really nice to keep it
clean.

Just so you know, the simple blow
up rectangular pools we've been
buying them cost around $25 to
$60+ with no pump, so
this is a heck of a deal!!!

12:00PM

I just got a letter from AEP
which makes absolutely no sense
at all. Meaning they're telling
me the electric increased due
to outside temps and running
the air conditioner.
Well no shit Sherlock!!
It don't take a rocket scientist
to figure that out!!!!!
What I want to know is why there
is so much difference in my bill
when compared to last year that
it doubled my electric bill
and since installing this so
called Smart Meter.
(banging head on wall!)

Anyone remember last years Summer
temperatures? I checked with
the Farmer's Almanac with last
years temps of July and August
and they were very similar
to this years, maybe slightly
cooler, but about average.
Not so much cooler it would
make my electric bill double
this year!!

And as for this crap about not
having the information online
about my Smart Meter is a crock!

When they installed the Smart Meters
they also gave us brochures about
how it worked and how we could
get online to monitor our electric
usage. Why tell someone this
when the information and technology still
has yet to be developed for us to
be able to check it???!!!
(banging head on wall more, because
I just don't understand people!)

Did they answer my question, NO!
Hell I can do the same thing they
did by checking my account and
seeing how many watts was used
for each month and seeing what
my bills were.
I did not see an answer as to why
it has doubled since the previous
years!

What are they trying to hide
and how do I know my Smart Meter
is working properly if they
"still have yet to develop the technologies
and the interface between the meter,
our systems and our website"
(as stated below in their email)

Here's a thought...
It probably takes a college
degree to sit in a corporate
office to write these
ridiculous answers to people's
questions and complaints.
Makes me feel pretty damn smart!

How are they taking the monthly
readings off my electric meter then.
This Smart Meter was installed so
they didn't have to send out meter
readers. It relays the information
back to them and their offices.

Am I making sense? I hope so
because they are making no sense
at all!!

1 box hard & soft tacos kit
with taco & cheese sauce- Free
1 package of RediServe chicken strips $1.00
leftover lettuce
tomatoes from garden

Total cost for meal $2.00
makes 5 servings with 2 tacos each.
@ .40 cents a serving.

This evening I picked a bunch
of tomatoes and a hungarian pepper.
I also started picking the dead flowers
in the front flower bed to preserve
the seeds for next year.

I bought a couple packs of seeds
this year to get my seed collection
going. Just from that little bit
of seeds in one packet I can produce
hundreds more with all the
flowers I grew from them.

I won't have to pick my morning
glory seeds I just open their
little seeds pouches up and dump
on the ground below, or let
them fall off. Come next Spring
they'll start growing on their
own and I won't have to plant any.

Today I am starting on Vitamin D3.
I got gel tabs that were 2,000 IU.
I read somewhere you should take
20-25 IU per pound of body weight.
So I should be between 2800 to 3500IU.
I'm gonna start with 2,000 IU then
as Winter gets near with go with
2 tablets for a total of 4,000 IU.

D3 is supposed to PREVENT colds
and Flu. So this is my trial and
error year to see if this works.
D3 also helps with so many more
things such as cancer, diabetes,
heart disease, asthma, bone health,
autism and the list goes on.

Will work on finding the kids
some. I think CVS has some liquid
or gummy tab forms.

Some people take lots more of
the dosage on the bottle, sometimes
upwards to 15,000 IU. But before
doing so I think you should read
more about it.

Here is a one web site to check out
about it called
Vitamin D3 World

8-30-10

I found this recipe for Cheddar
Crackers. I'm sure you could replace
the cheddar with any kind of shredded
cheese or even parmesan cheese.

Everyone in our home loves Cheez-Its
but they are expensive, even the
store brand unless of course you catch
a sale with coupons which is not very
often.

I think for this recipe below you
could also add seasonings of choice
to make different kinds of crackers.
How about garlic, Italian seasoning,
dried or powdered onion,
or other types of herbs or
dried tomatoes.

I'm thinking about making them sometime
and using my pasta roller instead of
the machine. I can make larger crackers
and put them in the kids lunches
like one of those Lunchables with
some ham or bologna and cheese to
make little cracker sandwiches.

CHEDDAR CRACKERS

1 1/3 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

6 tablespoons butter, softened

2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, loosely packed, shredded

2 egg yolks

2 tablespoons water

salt for tops, optional

1. Preheat the oven to 350.-I generally wait to do this until after
the 1 hour chilling.

2. In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Cut the butter into
the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal. A pastry blender works
great for this, or you can use a food processor. Mix in the cheese. Stir
well until the cheese is evenly coated.

3. In a separate bowl, mix together the egg yolks and the water. Add
this to the flour mixture and blend to for a dough that will hold together
in a cohesive ball. Wrap the dough in wax paper and chill 1 hour.

4. Divide the dough into 2 equal portions for rolling. On a well
floured surface roll out to a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick and
position so the long edge runs horizontally in front of you. For the left
third of the dough over the center third. Repeat with the right third. The
dough is now 3 layer with the seam running vertically. Give the dough a
quarter turn so the seam now runs horizontally. Roll out again to about 1/4
inch thick, fold as before and turn again.

4a. If using a pasta machine divide the dough into smaller segments and
roll the dough out the same you would do your noodles, starting with the
widest setting , then fold over and repeat until it's a smooth even dough,
then progressively lower the setting until the dough is 1/8 inch thick

5. Roll the dough out to 1/8 thick. If desired, sprinkle the top
lightly and evenly with salt and roll over it lightly with the rolling pin.
With a sharp knife, cut the dough into 2 inch squares and place them on an
ungreased baking sheet. Prick each square 2-3 times with a fork.

6. Bake 15 minutes, Turn and bake and additional 5-10 minutes or
until medium brown. Remove to a rack to cool.

OR here is yet another recipe I found:
There is a video to go with
it HERE (small on left hand side
about mid ways down)

Parmesan Cream Crackers
Recipe by Mark Bittman in the NY Times

1 cup all-purpose flour, more as needed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup finely grated fresh Parmesan cheese
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup cream or half-and-half, more as needed
Coarse salt, pepper, sesame or poppy seeds, minced garlic or whatever you like for sprinkling (optional).

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly dust with flour. Put flour, salt, cheese and butter in bowl of a food processor. Pulse until flour and butter are combined. Add about 1/4 cup cream or half-and-half and let machine run for a bit; continue to add liquid a teaspoon at a time, until mixture holds together but is not sticky.

Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface until 1/2-inch thick or even thinner, adding flour as needed. Transfer sheet of dough to prepared baking sheet (drape it over rolling pin to make it easier). Score lightly with a sharp knife, pizza cutter or a pastry wheel if you want to break crackers into squares or rectangles later on. Sprinkle with salt or other topping if you like.

Bake until lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Cool on a rack; serve warm or at room temperature or store in a tin for a few days.

Yield: About 4 servings.

I am still stunned over this laptop
computer Tony found. He looked
like a kid running from a candy
store when he found it.
He kept saying, "there is actually
a laptop computer in this box!!"

I always tell the kids and Tony to
check any boxes because sometimes
they aren't empty!

So I did a lil research today on this
computer. I was able to find out
it went for $700 when new!!

1.6GHz Intel Core Duo processor,
1GB of memory and 100GB hard drive.
It weighs in at 7.4 pounds and
includes a dual-layer DVD burner,
FireWire port, 4 USB ports, S-video port and
4-in-1 media card reader.
Loaded with Windows Vista.

Man I hope we can get it running!
It looks brand new with not a
scratch on it!

Just got a batch of peanut butter
banana bars in the oven. I made
them just like my banana bread
except I didn't put a streusel
middle and put everything on top.
I also added some heath bits
on top as well. I've never
made them into bars before so
we will see how they turn out.

Once baked and cooled I wanted
to cut them up into individual
servings and put into freezer
for lunches.

11:30AM

Mom called and said she had the second
estimate done on the gutter out back
of her house. She also got a quote
on some leaf guards, ya know those inserts
you put into gutters to keep the leaves out.
We had some on our home when we first moved
in and did not like them at all. For some
reason it made the water go over
top of them. We removed all of them off
the gutters. Anyway the leaf guards
were $100 to $200, I don't remember exact
amount. Plus you still have to clean out
your gutter because seeds from trees
can still get in there.
To have the gutters cleaned professionally
is about $95 once or twice a year.

So I was racking
my brain to keep my step-dad from having
to climb a ladder and clean gutters
and to keep them from spending so much
on those darn gutter guards which I hate
to begin with. I myself just climb a ladder
to our roof and use a cordless leaf blower
to clean out the gutters.

So anyway this idea popped into my head
that was much cheaper, a telescoping
wand attachment for a garden hose
that shoots out a high pressure spray
and reaches up to clean out your gutters
without any ladders.

Between Lowes and Home Depot they
can be purchased for $16 to $23.
That's a lot better than $100 and something!
Or a yearly cleaning at $95!
Plus you don't have to climb a ladder
to clean the gutters!

Telescoping Wand with Gutter Cleaner

* Powerful sweeping action cleans debris from rain gutters is also great for sidewalks
* Telescoping wand extends from 41.5 In. to 68.5 In.
* High quality aluminum construction
* For outdoor use with cold water only
* Standard hose connection

If cashiers give you a problem about
using coupons, remind them that the

like you are robbing them with the

I had a cashier miss quite a few coupons

11:00AM

Got dishes going in the dishwasher.
I always run a full load and if
there are remaining dishes that
won't fit in dishwasher then we
do them by hand.

If I use zip bags in the kids
lunch box then I have them save
them for me. I wash them up
to reuse them again and again.
I wash them and hang upside down
to dry off on soap bottles on the
back of the sink.

The other day I made up 2 lasagnas.
One of which we only ate half of.
The remaining I packed up in
individual containers for the
freezer for Tony's or my lunches.
The remaining lasagna will be eaten
for supper tonight.

I got a head start on making
the kids lunches for tomorrow.
They are having Chef Boyardee
in their Thermos', a small bowl
of cheddar Chex Mix, a yogurt,
little debbie snack cake and
a juice pouch.

Now I am getting ready to make brunch.
It will consist of fried taters,
bacon and sausage links.

______________________________________

I've been asking questions in
the neighborhood to get an idea
of what is going on around us.
Like, in my own way without
coming out and just saying it,
I find out about how much
people are making with their jobs,
how much their house payment or rent
is and car payments and utilities
because we all pretty much live
in the same style of house on
this street.

Do you know people who rent houses
on this street pay $800, that's
$200 more than what it is to buy
our home!

People are making double and sometimes
triple our income depending if they
live by themselves or are married.

And we have sometimes been referred to
as the "rich" people on the street
who is "making all the money" and I quote
those exact words out of the mouths of
neighbors!

And the funny thing is we are probably
the poorest people on the street!
And that ain't no joke!

So I have decided to post on my
blog even the littlest things
I do to save money no matter
how stupid or little it may be.
I say this over and over again,
no matter how little savings it
may be it all adds up in the end!

People cannot understand how
we are able to do it with
our one income. But ya know
everyone out there is capable of
cutting back dramatically like
we do but still fitting in like
everyone else. It makes me feel
good to hear comments from
the neighbors.
We have 6 cars parked in the driveway.
And once again neighbors cannot
understand how we can afford them
all. For starters they are used,
bought them cheap by shopping around,
paid cash and have no car payments
and don't have full coverage insurance
on them! Oh yeah and you buy ones
that you can work on yourself.

So anyway starting today I will post
everything I do on a daily basis
to cut back. I know I post a lot
of pictures but who wants to read
someone's blog with just words?

So here is everything I am
doing just today to cut back.

My dish soap got down to about
an inch left in the bottom.
When it runs low I then fill
the rest of the bottle up with
water to make it last a little longer.

I'll even do this to shampoo or
conditioner when the bottle is empty.
I add a little water, swish it around
to get the remaining shampoo off
the sides of the bottle and get about
2 more uses out of it! That's 2 more
uses that others would have thrown away.

When I wash up any remaining dishes
that didn't fit in the dishwasher
I don't fill up a sink with water.
Instead I run a small steady stream
from the faucet, put a little soap
on my sponge and wash and rinse
under that same stream. I would
have used more water even filling
my sink up half way.

When I run the dishwasher I DO NOT
use the dry cycle. I DO NOT use
it on pots & pans wash. I use the
regular or light cycle. And even
though I do not use the dry cycle
the dishwasher still ticks away
using electric even though it
doesn't dry the dishes so when the
dishes are done I turn the knob
to the off position.

We have turned the air conditioner
back on. It is set at 77 degrees.
Curtains and blinds stay closed to
keep out sunlight which could
raise the temperature in here.
We also run our ceiling fan
24-7 on low to circulate the air.
I have a box fan sitting next to
a vent on the floor to help distribute
the cool air more evenly around the house.
On extremely hot days I have gone
as far as plugging in a fan at the
bottom of the basement stairs
and blowing the cool basement
air up to the main part of the house!

I had to take a load of food to
the basement pantry and put away
so I did it while I started laundry.

In this box was 10 pouches of
alfredo noodle mixes that I got
just this past week from Meijer
for .33 cents each. I know
Pasta Roni goes for $1.00 on up
so I bought all they had for
that price.

I took down to the basement 2 bags
of 70 count notebooks.
I purchased these for .10 to .15
cents each and now have a good stock
on them for probably the next couple
of years. Normal price is $1.00
if not more.

While I am in the basement I figured
I'd give a tour of what's down there.

Here is my laundry stock pile, slowly
dwindling down but has lasted me for
almost a year. Most was under a $2.00
or free. I still have about 3 more bottles
up stairs that is not included here.

Before we go to the pantry I'm stopping
by to throw a load of wash in.
The directions of the soap and fabric
softener say to use certain amounts
for full loads. I use the small loads
amount in my regular loads then
dilute down the fabric softener
so it doesn't clog up my machine.
Then I put the clothes on a 6 minute
wash cycle instead of the 14 minute one
and then put on cold wash and cold rinse.

It still gets my clothes just as clean
and they still smell good!

And here is my pantry before I come
back upstairs to do other things.
Most things were free or very cheap!

And lastly here are my freezers.
They are kept full. By keeping
a full freezer it uses less amount
of energy than running it constantly
for one that is empty or half empty.
If you do not have anything to
fill up that empty space in your
freezers, fill up empty milk
jugs with water and put them
in there.

1:45PM

For now I will continue to clean up
my kitchen and wait for the first
load of laundry to get done.

No one said saving money was easy.
It's not. It takes a lot of work
and patience to keep up with it
on a daily basis.

Later on we might make a run over
to Olentangy and Fox & Hounds to
see how move outs are going over
there.

As tired as we were yesterday after
Cosi we still managed to make a trip
over to UV. Mom asked why didn't we
wait til today to go over. What
people don't understand is you have
to act now or others will get
to it before you do. That's free
money to me sitting there waiting
for me to swoop up. No matter how
tired I am. It's a job to me. Most
still go to work no matter how tired
they are. While I don't actually have
a job and go to work every day I
still pull my fair share of doing
things around here!!

__________________________

This week I don't think I will
do much grocery shopping due
to going to Cosi. I will just
get basic things we need,
for example toilet paper.

I researched 6 stores,
Walgreens, Kmart, Walmart,
Dollar General, Meijer and
Kroger looking for the best deal.
I took the amount it cost
and divided it by the number
of rolls to see how much

I have not had internet since
about 3:00PM today. I had assumed
it was WOW again screwing up it's
services. I just now went to try
and reboot the modems and saw that
someone had turned off the switch
on the power switch, GRRRRRR!!

We just got back around 8:30PM
from Olentangy where we found
some stuff. Move out times
vary at different apartment complexes
and never seem to be the same weeks.
Drove by UV and found nothing.

9:00PM

Got the kids in the shower and
unloaded the truck. Took down
the remaining clothes on the line
so everyone had clean clothes for
tomorrow morning.

Ran across this one dumpster
that had a crap load of stuff.
There was guys still hauling
stuff out. I was even asked if
I was interested in a desk and
went in their apartment to check
it out. Didn't want it.

But luckily we got there as they
were throwing the stuff away.
I got a whole bag of meat and
freezer stuff, never opened.
Tony found 3 desk top computers
and a Gateway laptop computer in it's
original box. No, at the moment Tony
doesn't want to give away the
laptop. It doesn't power up when
plugged in so he is taking it to
work to see if it is fixable.
It has a HUGE screen compared to the
ones we have. Now as for the desk tops
I don't know if they work or not.
I don't have a desk top hooked up
to see if they do. There are no
cords with them.
Oh yeah, Tony found another laptop
the other day at his work. They tried
to repair it at work but had no luck
and tossed it back out.

Here's the goods we found tonight.

I had a set of black metal tall breakfast
bar chairs with backs loaded in the
truck. I had to take them back
out because we would of had no room
to put other things like 4 computers.
That sucked but oh well. One day I
would love to have a breakfast bar made
and these chairs would have been perfect.
Tony said he'd go back tomorrow and
get them for me but I said don't worry
about it.

I do have a bag for Kendra that has
girl clothes in it. They are too
small for me. Cutesy enough for
a teeny bopper.

Well it's 9:45PM. I'm wore out!
I need to go lay out everyone's
clothes for tomorrow morning
and get everything ready to go.
I'm not going anywhere tomorrow
so will probably bake up some
peanut butter banana bread.
