This sounded simple enough to make. And I'm a simple person.
If I can make something that looks like I spent hours
doing then that's my kind of thing!
It's an ice cream cake
made from ice cream sandwiches. The recipe says to wrap
in tin foil. I would be afraid of the whipped topping
sticking to the sides and being a mess. Just place everything
in a baking dish or pan, then frost the top. Or if you want it to be
removable then put tin foil in the pan overlapping the sides.
Once frozen just lift out of the pan.
Here's a couple more shortcuts I thought of-
Just use frosting from a tub instead of whipped cream
and if you don't have fudge topping try chocolate syrup.
The kind you add to milk to make chocolate milk.
Cause that's about all I have without making any special
purchases just to make this other than ice cream bars.

Fudge Ice Cream Cake

1/2 cup hot fudge ice cream topping, warmed
1 tub (8 oz.) whipped topping, thawed, divided
1 pkg. (3.9 oz.) chocolate instant pudding
8 Oreo cookie sandwiches (approximately 1 cup)
12 vanilla ice cream sandwiches

Pour fudge topping into medium bowl. Whisk in 1 cup whipped topping. Add dry pudding mix; stir 2 min. Stir in chopped cookies. Arrange 4 ice cream sandwiches, side-by-side, on 24-inch-long piece of foil; top with half the whipped topping mixture. Repeat layers. Top with remaining sandwiches. Frost top and sides with remaining whipped topping. Bring up foil sides; double fold top and ends to loosely seal packet. Freeze (at least) four hours.

----------------------------------------------
Here's another one. It calls for chocolate chips
on top. You could put just about anything. How about crushed Oreo cookies?

Easy Ice Cream Cake

* 1 cup heavy cream
* 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
* 6 ice cream sandwiches (3.5 ounces each)
* 1/2 cup chocolate chips, chopped

Directions

1. Line an 8½-by-4½-inch loaf pan with a piece of wax paper or parchment, allowing the paper to hang over both long sides.
2. In a large bowl, beat the cream and sugar until stiff peaks form.
3. In the bottom of the pan, arrange 3 of the sandwiches in a single layer, cutting them to fit as necessary. Spread with half the whipped cream. Repeat with the remaining sandwiches and whipped cream.
4. Sprinkle the top of the cake with the chopped chocolate chips. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze until firm, at least 1 hour and up to 1 week.
5. Holding both sides of the paper overhang, lift the cake out of the pan and transfer to a platter. Discard the paper and serve.

I am a day behind.
I did not get my fried cabbage supper last night
due to too much going on. So this morning I have everything
frying up in the pan for this evening.

Mom just called and wants to do lunch. I suggested the $2.00
meals at Taco Bell again.

I might make a pie today to use up some leftover strawberries
and use the peaches up that I never made jam with due to not
having the time.
PEACH STRAWBERRY CREAM CHEESE PIE

11-12:30PM

Mom took us out to Taco Bell then she wanted to stop in Kroger.
I picked up some more milk. Found 1/2 gallon of chocolate milk
in mark down area for .79 cents and some Danon yogurt for .19 cents each.

12:30-1:30PM

Damien stopped by for a haircut. This makes the 6th
hair cut I have given since Sunday!

Woo Hoo Damien gave me a 10% discount card to use at
Meijers when I shop there. It's only good on general
merchandise though. Not sure exactly what items.
He said it's usually stuff not taxed. I was wondering
if it would be good on cleaning supplies, paper goods such
as toilet paper. Hey wonder if would be good on gardening stuff.
Do they tax vegetable plants or seeds? Even though it is pertaining
to or growing food I think it is still taxed for some reason.
Hope his card is still good on marked down things or things
that are a percentage off. We'll just have to play it by ear
and watch receipts to see what if anything it takes off.

1:30 to 3:00PM

I had gotten a couple boxes earlier from Kroger when there so
decided to head down to the basement and fill 'em up with crap.
I filled up 3 boxes, 3 kitchen trash bags and what appeared
to be a HUGE plastic lawn bag full of stuff.
I have decided I am going to dwindle down my fabric stash.
I probably have about 5 to 6 HUGE totes full. I want
to get it down to ONE medium sized tote and that's it!
I try not to think long when I go through stuff. I give
it about a couple seconds to say yeah or nay then it
gets tossed in an out box. If I think about it any longer
then I'll end up keeping stuff I'll never use.
Now the next challenge, hauling it all upstairs.
Maybe I'll wait til Tony gets home then I can fill his
truck up with it.
I'm wore out just from going through stuff. It's a good
thing I fixed supper ahead of time and all I have to
do is heat it up because I sure don't want to be standing
over a stove tonight cutting and chopping veggies!

Earlier today we stopped in GameStop just to look, not
to buy. Was pricing some used games for the Nintendo DS
we just got. About flipped when I saw they were selling
the game system for $189. And I jewed a yard sale person down from
$10 to $8!!
Anyway what I wanted to say was while in there I found
coupons on the wall by the Nintendo DS games.
Of all places, who would think they would have any here!
It was for CiCi's Pizza. Get a FREE buffet with the purchase
of an adult buffet and 2 beverages. Limit 1 coupon per party.
Which would mean me and Tony could use 2 coupons but pay
for each one separately. I'm thinking we could get out
of CiCi's for about $20 for a family of 4. Not sure
what their prices are so I am only guessing.

9:00PM

In the process of putting up the molding.
I have flipped and flopped that molding three times
before deciding which way it should go having to
take nails back out two times! I think it was all in
how the light reflected off it that determined the
way it is now. Just sawed off the last piece to put in
place then will finish nailing it all in place.
It will need to be caulked where the boards butt up
against one another and on the underside where it
hangs on top of the cabinets. Then I will give it
all another coat of paint.

Here's a sneak peek of our work in progress.
Called it quits for the night. My Ghost Hunters
is on TV. I put a before picture so you can compare.
Hey I don't think it looks too bad for everything
done under $20! It sucks the camera won't pick up
the details in the molding. It almost looks like
flat pieced of wood put up there.
I ended up with 2.25 pieces of molding leftover.
Guess if I find a cabinet or hutch top for my
one wall I could finish the top to math the other
cabinets.

6-19-10

Got up this morning and turned the air conditioner off and opened up all the windows for a little fresh air. It's supposed to be 79 degrees today. Big change from being in the 90's for the last week or so.

Still working on cleaning and weeding out. It's a never ending process around here.
Still waiting to get boxes from Tony's work so for now I am putting all those
Kroger and Meijer bags from yesterday's shopping trip to use.

Hoping Tony brings me home some trim nails today so we can get the molding up
above the kitchen cabinets. Might work on that this evening if he remembers.
I'm hoping that by adding the molding it will give the kitchen height being
that it is a smaller space that could feel like it was closing in on you.

Tony might be getting off work early tomorrow. If he accumulates too much overtime
they send him home early. Which to me doesn't makes sense if you've earned time
and a half and they send you home straight time.
Anyway we were possibly thinking about taking the kids tomorrow to see Toy Story 3.

I would love to make a trip over to habitat to look for cabinets, shelves or hutches and possibly even some paneling for the bathroom.
When working with small spaces such as my kitchen and bath I don't
think finding things at habitat would be hard. Now if you had a bigger project
that might be more difficult. Like for my bathroom I would only need a lil over
12 feet of paneling or bead beadboard and maybe some trim.

My tip when looking for certain sized items is to keep a small notepad in your purse
with all measurements on it. I also carry around a measuring tape on my keychain.
I absolutely love this keychain and it has come in handy on so many different occasions!

___________________________________________________

11:45AM

Just back from Habitat. Saw a couple pieces of white washed paneling and beadboard but nothing that was 12ft long. I'll just have to keep checking back
as their stock rotates daily.
People that spend 10's of thousands of dollars on kitchen cabinets
are crazy! They had cabinet sets galore in there. Saw a nice
pine colored set that was $585. It had a lot more cabinets
than what I have in my kitchen and was an updated look.
Compared to new this is the way to go if you were doing a major kitchen
remodel.

Well I'm gonna go and get some lunch made and maybe work on supper.
Making things ahead of time instead of when kids and hubby walk
through the door is soooo much more easier.

Tonight's supper

1/2 head of cabbage fried up with 1/2 pound bacon, some potatoes, onions and smoked sausage. Maybe add a half jar of leftover alfredo sauce in.

1:05PM

Just got done blanching and getting 17 ears of corn ready for the freezer.
I've probably got 27 ears in the freezer now.
Swoop on corn now while it's priced at .15 cents an ear at Kroger
and freeze so you can have it during off peak season when
prices go up and corn isn't so tasty.

2:00PM

Got all my green onions cut up. I think they were multiplying as I cut them!
Here's a tip for when cutting onions. My eyes started burning pretty good
so I grabbed a pair of sunglasses to use while cutting. Worked like a charm!
Man that was a lot of cutting!
Here they are ready to go into the freezer. They completely filled a
sandwich sized baggie. I can use these in soups, salads,
fish and salsa.

4:55PM

What an afternoon. Around 2:30pm I was kicking back watching tv
when Damien came over. He was kicking back also. Got up to go to the kitchen when I heard crying outside. I see Jonathan on the ground under the carport. He said this one boy that was over sucker punched him in the eye and threw him off a bicycle
right out front. He's like 14 so don't think I went after a little guy. Lucky for me the boy was still in our driveway so I could chew
him another asshole and chase him down the street. I was really cussing up a
storm and going after him that he sped off down the road. I must have been really loud because the truck driver neighbor came out to see what was going on.
Then Damien came out. He says I shot out of the house like a bat out of hell
after this kid, LMAO. Ain't nobody gonna punch my kid in the face without
a momma being up their ass!! So right now we wait and see if Jonathan has a black eye. Told the boy he is no longer allowed at our house or I will call the police on him next time. There's just no sense of having to hit someone in the face and have a mouth with no respect. He was over yesterday outside and our back door was open. Christopher went in the kitchen and this kid started yelling in our house at Christopher to shut up. Disprespectful lil shit. I ain't having that at my house. I got up from my chair and snuck around the corner and slammed the door in his face. Never heard anymore outta him after that till today.

Anyway the neighbor came over with all 3 of his kids. I didn't feel like standing around talking so I got out the mower and mowed the front, back and side yard.
Just got done. Tony just walked in so I am going to chill for now.
My adrenaline rush is winding down. When full of energy, go mow the grass, you'll get it done in no time, LMAO.

Christopher is in his room, Jonathan is at a friends and me
and Tony are in the house. Our driveway is full of people playing
basketball! There's even some I've never seen before. I think
at one I counted 10 people.
I tell all the kids and adults I want this to be a safe place
for kids to play and I won't tolerate crap out of kids that want to cause
harm or problems to others!!

___________________________________________________

5:30PM

Dad was nice and found a bike for Christopher today at work.
Christopher's and Tony's bike was stolen recently.
Christopher was really surprised to see the bike.
Needs a lil work and some oil on the chain but other
than that looks good.

___________________________________________________

6:00PM

No rest for the weary. Sitting here when one of the neighbor kids walks
in saying their lil brother (2 yrs old) cut his toes and is bleeding.
Little kids see the slightest drop of blood and think someone is
bleeding to death, LOL!
I just shake my head wondering why the dad (truck driver) is out there
not taking him home across the street to care for him. I go out with
my first aid bag in hand, some paper towels and a tub of water and soap to doctor up a couple stubbed toes. Then dad finally took him home. What do I look like a mom or something, lol.

2 more kids coming to the door wanting to play. What is it about our
house that attracts every kid in the neighborhood???
Me and pop need some down time so we'll see how long that lasts.

7:00PM

Got the thermostat off the Trans AM. Tony didn't think I knew how to do it.
It's got to be one of the simplest things to change on a car!

Went over to Advance Auto to get a new thermostat, gasket
and some anti freeze. From there I decided to GO down another
road by Advance where this assinine kid from earlier lives. Sure enough he was out
in the street bouncing a basketball. He doesn't know the suburban so I drove
really slow past him, looking him the eye, and said "WHAT'S UP". He said "huh" and
had a really confused look on his face. I told Tony give him a minute
for my face to sink in to realize who I was. I want the lil sucker to know
I ain't playing games and I know where he lives. I revved the engine on the truck a few times when leaving.

Jonathan complained his shoulder/chest area hurt. I pulled his shirt
up and sure enough he had a bruise. So that was another reason for driving
by this kids house to see if he really lived there. Should I have any
doctor bills as a result of this I know where to hunt him down!!

DON'T MESS WITH MAMA!

Splurged and bought some hamburger today.
Figured a way to stretch it out by making
crock pot salisbury steaks.

Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, noodles
or even on rolls like a mini slider sandwich.

Here's another salisbury steak recipe
you can do in the skillet.

Salisbury Steak

1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

In a large bowl, mix together 1/3 cup condensed French onion soup with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt and black pepper. Shape into 6 oval patties.

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of patties. Pour off excess fat.

In a small bowl, blend flour and remaining soup until smooth. Mix in ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce and mustard powder. Pour over meat in skillet. Cover, and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Found this recipe for homemade White Castle burgers.
Might use the other half of my hamburger
to make up some of these and make up a batch
of homemade rolls to put them on.

Found a soap bucket to put kitty's food in.
It was actually the one I had the dog's food
in but transferred it over to a tote.

Homemade Instant Oatmeal Mix

1 - 18oz container quick cooking oats
1/3 - cup dry powdered milk
1/2 - cup packed brown sugar
1 - 2 tsp cinnamon
1 - cup raisins or dried fruits

Mix all of the ingredients together and store in a airtight container. Label the container with the directions on how to prepare the oatmeal. Yields 16 servings

To prepare oatmeal: scoop 1/2 cup oatmeal into a bowl and mix with 1/2 cup water. You may need a bit more water if you like you oatmeal thinner. Microwave on high for 1 minute stir and enjoy.

6-27-10

Was up at 8AM. Back wasn't feeling too swift
to keep laying in bed. About crawled to kitchen
to get some Ibuprofen.

You'd think with
the storms we got last night it would
have lessened the humidity, NOT. Air is
still thick this morning. News said the
heat index would be over 100 degrees.

Sitting here waiting for the Ibuprofen to kick in so I can
start making breakfast.

Shred up some potatoes.
Fry in skillet with a little butter
and Italian dressing.
In another skillet fry up some sausage.
Add onions if desired.
Combine the potatoes and sausage in skillet
once done. Add a couple of eggs to the mix
and stir till done.
Serve topped with shredded cheddar cheese.

Potatoes $1.00 (about 4-5 large)
italian dressing & butter .10 cents
sausage $1.00
cheddar cheese .75 cents (1 cup)
4 eggs .16 cents

TOTAL COST $3.01 for 6 servings or .50 a serving.

Throwing the other 2 servings in zip bags
and putting in the freezer.

Yes we cheat on weekends and try to use
styrofoam plates. $1.00 a 50 pack at Kroger.
It's got to be cheaper and easier than
doing dishes. And that's not something
I want to be doing during the weekend.

11:00AM

One week at Kroger I found eggs
(normally $3.39 due to being specialty free range eggs)
for .50 cents a dozen.
Well today I decided to make up a batch of
PICKLED EGGS

1 large canning jar
1 can pickled beets with juice
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup splenda
dash of salt
onion sliced
I had a leftover banana and hungarian
pepper that I chopped up and threw in there also.
dash of allspice
dash of cinnamon
9 eggs

You could also add garlic and cloves.

put juices in jar and stirred in
vinegar, spices and splenda.
I layered the eggs with the beets,
onions and peppers.

Put lid on tightly and place in fridge
for 3-4 days.

Tony got paged out this afternoon.
Someone's toilet overflowed. It was a garden
apartment and it overflowed clear out into
the hallway past the front door.
I helped Tony with a shop vac and wiping up
the floors because these people thought we
should clean up their mess after unclogging
the toilet, GRRRR. They tried to tip me
but maintenance workers are not allowed to
receive tips, BUMMER!

3:30PM

Have been wanting to make strawberry shortcake.
I've had the strawberries sliced and sugared
since yesterday. There was no way I was firing
the oven up. So instead I decided to do
a cake in the crock pot. I'll put whipped
cream and strawberries on the cake instead.
Let you know how the crock pot version turns out.

_____________________________________________________

6:00PM

We decided to head outside since it wasn't feeling
too bad out. Tony was tinkering with the blue
Trans Am and I helped some and wandered around the yard.
I decided that I should step on a wobbly stepping stone
and hit my foot with it to see if it would hurt.
And ya know what? It does!

____________________________________________________

6:45PM

Cake in crock is done.
I made a chocolate swirl cake mix from
a box and added a box of french vanilla pudding.

7-8:00PM

Tinkered around outside some more.
Tony decided to take the blue Trans Am
for a ride around the block. First time
since we had it. Still needs some love.
I think we might be keeping it.
We've looked at 3 other Trans Am recently
for $1,800 to $2,300 and condition wise,
they don't compare to what we already have.
They have been rust buckets in sad shape.

Check out them seat covers. I made them
myself about 5 years ago. Surprisingly
they were still in the car when we traded
it back.
I had originally splurged and bought a set
of blue flame seat covers way back when.
I put them on the day I got them in the mail.
And do you know that night someone stole them
out of the car! That's why I ended up making
a set. Ain't been stolen since, lol.
They keep the seats from getting dry rot due
to sun and fading them out.

9:00PM

Gave everyone a haircut, Tony and the boys.
They still need some trimming around
the ears with the scissors.
This is like 5 haircuts I've done since yesterday.

6-26-10

It's Saturday and 6:30AM. What in the world
am I doing up so early on a weekend???
Oh yeah, the cat was in the room next
to our bedroom trying to see how much
noise it could make, GRRRR. Plus my
shoulder was starting to throb.
This started yesterday morning
and has decided to stick with me since.
I'm not one to go to doctors. Usually
I do some kind of home remedies first
for a week or so. And 9 out of 10 times
it goes away. And you wonder why it takes
so long to get a doctor's appointment then
when you do get it the doctor spends about
5 minutes with you and slaps you with
his expensive bill or copay. It's because people
run to the doctor over the littlest things.
What did people do in the 1800's or earlier
when there was no urgent care or hospital?
They dealt with the simple things at home
then sent for the doctor for more complicated
things. Even then he'd just give you a shot
of whiskey to cover up the pain. And we wonder
why we have so many drunks out there now.
They cover up their pain and problems with
alcohol as their own home remedy.
Guess we can blame the drunks on our ancestors, LOL,
they started it all.

Ok it's 7:15AM. Think maybe I'll pop my butt
back in bed for a bit. You never know it
could be one of those days where the kids
sleep in. I put the cat in the basement so I shouldn't
be awoken by it!

___________________________________________________

Got back up at 10:30AM.

At 11:30-12:PM I headed down to mom's
to give my step-dad a hair cut.
I also trimmed the back of mom's hair.
If I get time from house cleaning
today I might give the boys and Tony
a hair cut today also.

On the ride home I heard this song from
Dolly Parton, Coat Of Many Colors, that touched me and figured
I'd put here to share.

___________________________________________________

1:00PM

Tony got the kitchen cleaned up.
I did a little spot on my wall in the
kitchen with some of the glaze I bought
yesterday at a yard sale. Couldn't
beat a whole gallon for a buck and this
will go a loooong way!

All I did was take a rag and wipe the
glaze on the wall over the exiting paint.
The lady described the glaze as a paint
stain so you get the idea of what it does.
With my cabinets done I thought that by
using the glaze on the paint would
help tie the colors in more.

Check out the before and after with the glaze.
Just a subtle hint of difference.
The tinted glaze seems to warm up the
walls from a cold beige to a little hint
of a yellow beige.

Still under $20 for doing my mini
kitchen makeover :0)

The air is stagnant outside. Just thick
and hot with no air flow. It's gonna be in the
90's today, YUCK! Keeping the house dark by
closing curtains. Got the air conditioner on
74 and have fans moving the air around.
There is no way I am firing the oven up on a
day like today. I threw 5 chicken leg quarters
(a $1.54 mark down package)in the crock
with water, onion powder and teriyaki sauce.

This morning mom gave me a couple packages of deer
tenderloin she didn't want. I have one
thawing out and the other in the freezer.
That will be another crock pot meal.
A trick to remove the gamey taste from deer meats
is to use a cup of coffee and some tomato
juice. To make it less tough throw it in the crock
on high several hours and it will just fall apart.

REUSING SOAP BUCKETS

Who buys specific pet food storage containers for their
dog? I don't. They run $15 to $60.
I use one of two things that were freebies to
begin with.

1. An empty soap bucket. Wash out real good.
Or you can place a clean trash bag inside
and fold over the edges of the bucket.
The lid will still fit.

2. For larger bags of food I use a tote with
a lid. I keep it outside under the carport.
It keeps out critters and is water resistant.

Those empty soap buckets are also good for storing
cat litter. We also keep a bucket of that outside
or in the shed. Cat litter isn't just for the
cat, we use it sop up oil, antifreeze or other spills and leaks
from the car in the driveway.

We also use an empty bucket for putting dog
poopie from the yard in. Until full the lid
keeps out flies and rain. Once full, put the
lid on tight and throw away. Keeps down the smell!

it was $10. Found these that were cheaper.

Tony got called out soon after leaving
Kroger. We had to replace a fridge.
I threw all the cold stuff we just
bought in the maintenance shop fridge
till we were done. It figures that
the pager would go off right after shopping.
The temperature gauge in the truck was
going between 94 and 95 degrees out.

Came home and fixed a late supper.

1 box fettucini $1.00
2.5 chicken leg quarters .77 cents
(bagged up the rest of the chicken
and put in freezer)
1/2 jar alfredo sauce .75 cents
bread & butter .25 cents

TOTAL COST FOR SUP: $2.77
made 5 servings @ .55 cents a serving

put one serving in the freezer for Tony's lunch.

I'm off here. Bill Engval is on Comedy channel.
I've seen this exact show 2 other times and it's
hilarious. I have laughed so hard I cried!

To sum it all up...
My life is somewhere between
Malcom in the Middle and Bill Engval.

10:00PM

I haven't done Ebay in awhile and decided to turn
there to find Tony another cell phone.
I just won my auction, woo hoo.
Plus the seller stated in the auction
that there is a 30 day guarantee on them
or your money back!
I bid $10.50 for TWO phones just like the
one Tony had. Now we will have a back up
one if needed. Plus once they arrive I can
see if his original phone would work with
another battery in it. That would be great
if it did. Tony's a happy camper now, well
almost, I still have to find him some
diabetic socks on there like I did before.
Ever price those at stores? They start
at around $5.00 a pair!! Ebay has them
for $16.90 for 12 pairs of crew socks.
That is $1.40 a pair. Much better for my
budget!
It may still sound like a lot but you have
to consider they are diabetic socks.
I bought 24 pairs from Ebay about 3 years
ago and they lasted this long. So it is
money well spent.
