7-7-10

Well if we can survive today and tomorrow
the temps are supposed to go back down
into the 80's. They are calling for
82 degrees Friday with storms.

Still working on laundry today which
includes towels, sheets, rags, and blankets.
It seems never ending.
I can say this...NO towels or blankets
as gifts. I have soooo many as it is!

We rarely use paper towels around here.
Instead I have a basket of rags to use
around the house. By being able
to recycle towels to use over and over
again it saves us a bundle each year.

From "The Frugal Girl"
let’s assume that you use two rolls a week. Even if you get paper towels for $1 a roll(which is what the cheapie-cheap-cheap ones cost here), that’s $110 a year that you’re spending on something that you just throw away. If you have $2/roll paper towels, that’s $220 a year.

Later on if I find time I might take
some of our old towels with holes in them
and cut them down for rags. I cut each
towel into 4-8 squares then zig zag stitch
the outsides. And I can make some more
swiffer pads with some of those old towels.

I'm thinking about hanging a towel bar
on the basement stairwell wall. That way once
we use those rags we can hang them up to
dry before going into the laundry.

And remember to get more life out of your
kitchen sponges, put them in the dishwasher
to clean and sterilize them.

9:40AM

Managed to clear a spot for my new bookshelf
that will go in the basement. I removed
the plastic 3 tier shelf down there and took
it out by the shed. This will now go in the
shed since it's more weather proof than
a wooden shelf. Tony can use it for
car parts and tools. I still have another
plastic shelf down there that I can use
for toy totes. I find totes, plastic
bins and what not at Tony's work all the time
so organizing everything for free shouldn't
be a problem.

I once found a little tikes plastic toy box.
This is great to keep outdoors because
it's weather resistant. I keep the boys
outdoor toys in it. So next time you find
a cheap one or see one sitting along the
road in the trash keep this in mind before
buying one of those outdoor ones from Lowes
that cost big bucks. You can buy outdoor spray
paint and paint it to match your deck if you
are really picky about appearance.

This one is $129 from Lowes

Or you can have a much cheaper outdoor
storage box like this for cheap or free!

First load of clothes drying on line.
Second load awaits in the washer.
I get more and more pissed each day
with cleaning. It works to my advantage
as that's the kind of attitude needed to
weed out crap. You tend to get rid of
LOTS more stuff!!
I have quit impulse buying at yard sales
and thrift stores and only buy stuff that
we need or as gifts.
When it comes to finding stuff at Tony's work,
I've been getting better at that also.
Just the other day someone threw out a nice
bookshelf cd stereo with speakers and as much
as I wanted to take it, I left it!
So proud of myself! This is how clutter starts
if you don't get a grip on it!
I gotta quit trying to rescue all these things
people throw out unless a family or friend
has a request for it.
The kids keep saying I should have a yard sale.
If I really needed money at the moment I would.
But I don't and I don't want stuff sitting around
taking up space so out it goes!

10:45AM

So far I've gotten 3 large totes full
and ready to be hauled out of basement.
This is so time consuming. I go through
each and every box, each and every item.
No pushing boxes aside!

Somewhere down in this dungeon is a
fooseball table and an air hockey table.
Hoping to get those set up when finished.
We found the fooseball table next to
a dumpster and acquired the air hockey
table free from someone. We've had it for
a little over 2 years now and have never
been able to set it up.
I keep having visions of sugar plums
dancing in my head of a nice basement
in the end!

Ok, back out to the yard to get the dried
laundry and hang up the next batch.
Then haul up 2 chairs out of the basement
and load into the car.
These go with the chairs I already
gave mom. Got the bookshelf lugged
in the house by myself. Now will
attempt to get it down to the basement
by myself.

WHEW! I need some more energy to
accomplish everything!

2:00PM

Got hamburger thawing out for supper.
Just put the ingredients in the
bread machine to make rolls.
Gonna try to make sliders (white castle
burgers) for supper)

Been hauling crap outta basement.
Wore out so reloaded with a bowl of soup
for lunch. Now I'm stuffed, lol.
But gotta keep going. Back down
to the dungeon to put another load
of laundry in and go through some
more stuff.
When the kids make a comment saying
they can see a difference in the basement
that's when I know I am making progress!

FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE

Sounds pretty good on a day like today!

Don't see why you couldn't replace some
of the milk with cold coffee. Yummy!

4:30PM

Rolls are in the oven baking.
Don't know what it is about fresh baked
bread but it makes the whole house smell good!

Next will be working on making the hamburger
for the sliders
. I can put some of those
dried onions to use that I got from Walgreens
yesterday for .50 cents.

4:45PM

I heard Christopher saying something about a
sprinkler in the neighbor's yard.
I didn't think nothing of it.
I went out to take down laundry and hang
more up. That's when I discovered the neighbor
had a sprinkler going and it was coming
into our yard and possibly getting on my clothes I
had hanging from our step ladder, GRRRR.
Don't understand why he was watering
anyway as his grass still looked green.
I can't win!

Why does it seem if I am in one area of
the house doing something, other areas
of the house go to hell????
Sometimes I feel as though I take one
step forward and three steps back!!

5:45PM

Supper- Sliders, pasta salad and
peaches n cream pie.

You know I can move around ok throughout
the day. But sit down and chill for about
an hour and it seems like all muscles tighten
up and I get stiff. I thought exercising
was supposed to make your body feel better
and toned, yeah right.

7-6-10

It's gonna be a hot one today!
Gonna try to keep the kids indoors as much
as possible. I do need to stop by
the library today and possibly Kroger.
Other than that I'm still working in the
basement and will probably be hanging clothes
out to dry.

I got Tony's truck loaded up this morning
with stuff I hauled out of the basement
yesterday. Got the back end and back
seat full of stuff! Putting a dent in
the basement but still a long way from
where I would like to be down there.

____________________________________________

9:00AM

Got the first load of laundry hung outside.
Trying something a lil different with clothing
and hanging them on hangers while drying.
I seem to get more on the line this way.
I know I said I wasn't line drying clothes
but after just paying the electric bill
I am having second thoughts. This is the highest
my electric bill has been in 12 months!
And I have my air condition set at 75 degrees
with box fans and ceiling fan running.
Curtains, blinds and doors are closed.

12:50PM

1 load of laundry dried on the line and another in the washer.

got 1 box and 1 bag of stuff to haul outta basement.

Haven't figured out what to have for supper
but will be making a peaches n cream cheese pie.

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar (will use Splenda)
1 tablespoon milk
1 graham cracker crust (9 inches)
1 can (15-1/4 ounces) sliced peaches, well drained
(freeze peach juice in ice cube trays, remove
to a zip bag. Can use in things like Jello)

Jonathan's been wanting one of those
smoothies from McDonalds and I ain't
spending that kind of money on one
so figured I'd make my own.

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar and milk until smooth.
Spread over the bottom and up the sides of the crust.

Cut peach slices in half if desired. Arrange over cream cheese.
Refrigerate for
up to 4 hours before serving. Yield: 6-8 servings.

* my note: you can put the peach slices in the
bottom of the graham crust then spread cream
cheese on top.

Ain't it funny what you can find when you clean.
Yesterday while in the basement I found my
ice cream cake pans, grrr. I searched and searched
for that thing a couple months back.

I'm thinking maybe another day this week I'll make

MINI ICE CREAM COOKIE CUPS

I'm sure I will have my own variations to
this recipe when I make it.

1 package (16 oz) Pillsbury® Ready to Bake!™ refrigerated sugar cookies (24 cookies)
4 teaspoons sugar
1/3 cup Fisher® Chef’s Naturals® Chopped Walnuts, finely chopped
1/2 cup Hershey’s® semi-sweet chocolate baking chips
1/4 cup Smucker’s® Seedless Red Raspberry Jam
1 1/2 cups vanilla bean ice cream, softened
24 fresh raspberries

Heat oven to 350°F.

Spray 24 mini muffin cups with Crisco® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray. Place 1 cookie dough round in each muffin cup. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Place 2 teaspoons of the sugar in small bowl. Dip end of wooden spoon handle in sugar; carefully press into center of each cookie to make 1-inch-wide indentation. Cool completely in pan, about 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, in small bowl, mix walnuts and remaining 2 teaspoons sugar; set aside. In small microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips uncovered on High 30 to 60 seconds, stirring after 30 seconds, until smooth.

Run knife around edges of cups to loosen; gently remove from pan. Dip rim of each cup into melted chocolate, then into walnut mixture. Place walnut side up on cookie sheet with sides.

In another small microwavable bowl, microwave jam uncovered on High about 15 seconds until melted. Spoon 1/2 teaspoon jam into each cup. Freeze cups about 5 minutes or until chocolate is set.

Spoon ice cream into cups, using small cookie scoop or measuring tablespoon. Top each cup with fresh raspberry. Store in freezer; let stand at room temperature 5 minutes before serving.

4:35PM

Got a peaches n cream pie made. Also
decided to use up some more leftovers
to make some smoothies.

-leftover cream cheese mixture from pie
-leftover peaches from pie
-4 leftover containers of cherry yogurt
(kids didn't like it so am mixing it
with other things so they'll eat it
and never know)
-leftover apricot jello with mandarin oranges

Put everything in food processor and blended
together.

5:00-7:00PM

Went to Bethel Rd. Walmart for some
black gloss spray paint for the Trans Am hood.

Wanted to find a plastic kiddie wading pool
but didn't find any there. Stopped by
Dollar General and none there either.
Figured this year I would get a simple
plastic pool that doesn't blow up, get
holes and is easy to clean. Plus if
the dog wanted to jump in also she could
without ripping the sides. Will keep searching.

Stopped in Speedway and got 2 slushies FREE
and 2 Dr. Peppers 20 ounces for $1.11
using my coupons.

From there we went to Tony's work. He found
a tall black bookshelf in an apartment
and needed my help to load it in the truck
considering it was upstairs in a townhome.
This is not a picture of it but very similar.
I like FREE!

7:00PM

Tonight's supper

Betty Crocker's Cheesy Hashbrowns (for hamburger).
Used cheddar smoked sausage slice up in place
of the hamburger.

Smoothies

Peaches N Cream Pie

7:30PM

Finishing up supper then will be heading outside
to hang up the last load of laundry for today.

Then I need to go down in the basement
and move things around so I can get my
new bookshelf put down there.
I currently have a couple plastic shelves
in my pantry area that I want to swap out
for the bookcase. The plastic shelves will now
go in the rec room to put toy totes on.

Was reading the news and saw something that
just sounded soooo stupid. But I guess if
you live in Yuppyville these are the new rules.
In Dublin your trash can cannot be visible. You cannot
store it on the side, front or behind your home
out in plain sight or you get fined $100 a day.
Is that a crock of crap or what?! It seems like
cities are always looking for ways to make money
no matter how low they can go to get it.
So where ya supposed to put a trash can then?
Move the car out of the garage so the trash
can can park in there? I'm talking the big
city trash containers.

8:45PM

The air is so thick outside! We were spraying
the Trans Am hood with gloss black paint
and there was a cloud of spray paint and
fumes just hovering in the air. You can
see it in the pictures.
Buzzing pretty good at the moment, WHEEEEEE!

9:15PM

Kids are outside playing in the water at
the neighbors house.
So I decided to start hauling up
crap outta the basement. Still exceeding
my goal of 1-2 boxes a day.
Today I filled 5 boxes and a huge
trash bag! Patting myself on the back.
But in the process of bringing them up
the steps I manage to knock off a floor
tile at the very top of the steps.
Hoping Tony can bring home some tile
grout to put it back. Ooops.

Where can you find a basic, plastic wading pool
like the one below. I have been searching
stores online still with no luck.
If you see one somewhere give me a hollar
as to what store it was at.

7-5-10

6:30-9:00AM

Back to the daily grind for us. Tony
went back to work today while most have the
day off.

I am returning to the basement today to continue
going through and getting rid of stuff.
This basement is a great escape from the
90 degree weather outside. I have put pants
on to work down there, lol. I wish it
would get warm down there in the Winter!

I keep at it and keep at it down there
in hopes of finding a floor in the near future.
I should take a before picture but think that
would be too embarrassing. When we moved here
we emptied a storage garage full of our stuff
and pretty much made a home for it all in
our basement. I have a picture of what it would
look like in my head one day.
It is a somewhat finished basement meaning it
has drywall walls and ceiling put in but no carpeting,
only concrete floors.
One day I hope to take our leftover yellow paint
from the living/dining room and paint the walls
down there to give it a brighter more cheerful
look. Lighter walls reflect more light while
darker paints absorb it.
And I am hoping to get carpet from Tony's
work for free to cover those cold concrete floors.
They replace carpet in apartments and put in new
and I want to get some of that carpet & padding
that is in half way decent shape. We did two of
mom's bedrooms with discarded carpet from his work
and you would never know it was used.

So many projects I would love to do around here
from kitchen to bathroom to dining room to the
basement. The kitchen is about done except for
finding some sort of wall shelf or cupboard.

Well my break time is over. I keep watching
HGTV to keep me inspired with all my projects.
LOTS of patience and time to do things with
my skinny budget and me being one person.

SPEEDWAY COUPONS

yesterday I was able to find these hang tag
coupons of bottles of 2 liter pops.

save $1.00 when you purchase 2
20 ounce, 1 liter or 2 liter bottles of
7UP, A&W, Canada Dry or Sunkist soda.

__________________________________________

9:30AM

Gotta take little breaks from the basement
or I will tire too easily and want to give up.

I'm thinking about running some more clothes
lines outside this year like I did last year.
Maybe not to the extent of hanging up everything
but use it for blankets, towels, sheets, small rugs
and things that are large. During the Summer
months I like to wash up all the blankets
in the house. Then come Winter I have a nice
stock of fresh and clean blankets to pull
from the closet.

PLUS I noticed that by not hanging some items
like last year my electric bill has gone up
a lot, like an extra $40, along side of
running the air conditioner. And I'm thinking
that's about how much I saved each month
by hanging laundry. So need to work on getting
that back down and use the high temperatures
outside to my advantage. Items dry in no time
when it's very hot out.

I was gonna take the kids to the library today
BUT the library is not open due to July 4th.
The kids were looking forward to it as they
have some reserved books that came in.
Oh well time stay home today and get things done.

While down in the basement I decided to do
laundry along side of cleaning down there.
Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Well I think I will go and clean an area rug
I found in the basement that I might use
in the dining or living room. Haven't had
much luck in finding one to use at yard sales
so could use this one for the time being.

___________________________________________________

9:30-11:55AM

Well I got the area rug cleaned and it's outside
in the driveway drying.
Tied a line up in the back yard and have towels
hanging on it drying. More loads of laundry
going and I got a box of crap hauled out of
the basement. Wearing out already and need to
fuel up with some lunch.
Just jotting down notes along the way to see
what I have been accomplishing. It helps
when having a big project like this to keep
me going and motivated.

bacon, eggs, sausage gravy & biscuits, pancakes
& leftover tenderloin hash.

bacon $1.99
4 eggs .16 cents (still have my .50 cent dozen eggs)
sausage gravy & biscuits free (leftovers from freezer)
leftover tenderloin free

cheese .20 cents
syrup .05 cents
pancakes free (leftovers from freezer)

things to make a big breakfast like this.
You don't need full sized servings. Just
use them as side dishes.

After about 3 days of scraping silicone off

And patiently waiting for a shelf cupboard

Getting ready to head out to some garage sales.
Tony's got the day off for July 4th. He was able

Just home from yard sales, car title place, insurance place
(for blue Trans Am) and Kroger.

Yard sales sucked today meaning there were fewer than
normal probably due to the holiday weekend.

6 Glad and Ziploc storage containers
FREE (in a freebie box)

Mark Martin Plaque $1.00
putting this up for Christmas for step-dad

Found a purse identical to the one I just
got recently at another yard sale.
This one was .50 cents
mine was $1.00
gonna give mom this other one.
The lady said she bought all her purses
from Khols so that is where these came from.

We were gonna stop by a store and pick up
a cheap sander to start work on sanding the
hood on the blue trans am. Would have cost
$10 to $15 for a cheap bobo one.
Found a Dewalt sander with case at a yard
sale for $15, offered $10 but got it for $13.
Hey any money off is good and is still better
than that cheap bobo we would have got.
These go for $50 at Lowes!

3:00PM

Eating a late lunch then heading out. Decided we would
wait for Toy Story 3 to hit the dollar theaters and
instead we are going to Pacemakers Dragway in
Mount Vernon this evening. Going North while
400,000 people head towards downtown Columbus
to see fireworks tonight.
Taking along a picnic type supper.
Turkey & cheese sandwiches, chips,
Big K 12 packs pop and some leftover
crock pot cake.

We will be seeing the Whetstone fireworks Sunday
at 10PM. We sit at our secret spot to enjoy
fireworks without crowds or traffic and still
have a really good view!

Just got home from Mount Vernon's Pacemaker's
Race Track and we are tired. Will post pics
and/or videos tomorrow. Been a long afternoon/evening!

I took along a couple books from the library.
Been reading about Nostradamus. Got one book read
about his biography and am working on the next
one called Nostradamus-The Lost Manuscript.
I'm the type that goes into a library to find
a book to feed my brain with. Not so much novels
and things like that but ones that teaches me
about something.
If ever there is a book I see advertised on
tv that looks interesting
I'll immediately go to the library's web site
and reserve it if they have it. It's free!

Getting up early tomorrow and heading out to
the flea market then a car show in the afternoon.

Well my eyes are burning and watering.
6:30AM is gonna come awfully early tomorrow.
Nighty night!

7-1-10

Tony has tomorrow off so we might go see Toy Story 3.
Still would like to hit a few yard sales.
Saturday I found a car show to go to.
If interested Columbus Square is having their first ever
car show you can check it out
HERE.
Entry is free and is for cars 1985 and earlier. I'm
thinking it will be in the parking lot by the
thrift store.

Considering the area, I wonder how many hoopties with
big wheels will show up. Unfortunately our cars
aren't up to par to be putting in any car show but we
still love to go to check them all out.

Good Guys is coming next weekend so you will know
where to find us in the evenings, probably Reynoldsburg,
Worthington or the Continent. Can't afford to go to the
actual show so we go to the hotels where the people stay
at while the show is in town. I'm all about free and
it's probably just as good if not better than the car show.
You can walk around a look at them in the parking lots,
watch them parade around the streets and see lots and lots
of burnouts and of course the cops giving out tickets!

I must be getting old having to try and figure out
all these new electronic gadgets and gizmos.
Heck I grew up with Atari. I was used to going to the game
room in the mall to play pinball and those old
video machines that took quarters. But as we get
older some of us grow out of the video games and
our kids continue it for us. It's pretty bad
now a days when you ask you 9 and 10 year olds how to
operate something.
But that's why I have internet, so I can
type in any and all questions I have to learn
about things.

I'm trying to find Jonathan some games for his
Nintendo DS. Just discovered that the Gameboy
Advance games will also work in it also.
Good to know because I have no clue when it comes
to this stuff, lol.
Now I tried the regular Gameboy games and while
it will fit in the slot it will NOT work
and touch the connectors inside the game.

And from what I am finding you can get
some movies for them also. That would be so
great for longer car rides!

I learn something new everyday.

By looking online I found that GameStop
carries cheap .99 cent and $1.99 used
gameboy advance games!

They have in Gameboy Advance:
MOVIES-
Spongebob
Wild Thornberrys
Spiderman
Shrek 2
Hey Arnold
Bratz
Rug Rats
Robots
Scooby Doo

DS

Bee movie
Hannah Montanna
Alice In Wonderland

9:30AM

Got a venison tenderloin in the crock pot.
I threw in a can of leftover diced tomatoes,
a can of tomato soup, 1 packet brown gravy,
3/4's of a soup can full of water along with
onion powder, pepper and Montreal steak seasoning.

So while getting the tenderloin in the crock I
notice all the critters in the backyard that
came out to play and stretch their legs.
They are sooooo funny to watch!
I put it on youtube so the video was
larger to see this lil critter bouncing
all over the place playing on our ladder
the kids left out in the yard.
Maybe the kids left a cup of Mountain Dew
out somewhere and that sucker got a caffeine
buzz from it, LMAO! Wish I had
it's energy!

10:30AM

Oh yeah the kids weren't too happy with me this
morning, lol. I decided I was gonna try to finish
up the molding in the kitchen. I was tapping all
the finishing nails, sinking them in the molding
with a hammer making lots of noise. They were asleep
still at 10am and I thought it was time they get up.
I heard "MOOOOOMMmmm, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WE'RE TRYING
TO SLEEP!" LOL.
Rise and shine because it's hammer time!
Ok gonna caulk it and let it sit awhile to dry.
Christopher wanted to go to the library today.

11:40AM

Got the caulking done on the molding. Tony told me
this stuff would wash off my hands under water, NOT!
Finally got it off with a rag.
Caulk can fill in all kinds of gaps and
can be painted on. This is kitchen and bath caulk.
Heading to library now and gonna let the caulk dry
before painting.

DOG TIP

My brother's dog keeps having diarrhea. I read that
if you feed your dog rawhide it CAN give them diarrhea.
So if your dog has diarrhea stop the rawhides for a
little while to see if it clears up.

2:10PM

Got the molding painted. Might do yet another coat.

6:00PM

Kicking myself in the ass end right now.
I could not figure out why this caulk was being
a pain in the butt to paint. And remember earlier
I couldn't understand why the caulk wouldn't wash
off my hands with soap and water???

Well earlier when I went in search of the caulk
I located a caulk gun and used what was in it,
not thinking. Guess what? It wasn't caulk in it,
IT WAS SILICONE!! AHHHHHH!!! I have been scraping
and peeling and digging all that crap back off
my molding this evening!!
I knew something wasn't right as my molding
looked like crap after I was done.
Now I know why. Now time to fix and redo everything
with CAULK!!

Double check everything before doing a project.
About like the saying, measure twice cut once.

Hey if I got this far before screwing up something,
I'm doing good, LOL!

Tonight's supper, venison tenderloin and
mashed potatoes and gravy.
When I make mashed potatoes I make them
like Texas Roadhouses with skins on.
