2-13-11

I'm gonna try something different
with my coupons.
I'm finding it really difficult to
clip and organize coupons in
a binder. It's a lot of work and
very time consuming!
To the point I am finding
myself slacking with using coupons.

I really need to use coupons
at this point and time with all
the doctor bills that keep piling up!
We won't go there as it
is getting very depressing just thinking
about it!
So here is what I'm gonna start doing:

I got a bunch of 2 pocket folders
back when they went on sale
during back to school time.

Label a folder for:
-Red Plum
-Smart Source
-and whatever other inserts there may be.

Every week when you get your inserts
in The Bag or Dispatch
you'll want to put the date on the
front of each insert.
Like today I put 2-13-11 on the SmartSource inserts
with a black Sharpie marker on the top.

I'll then put these in chronological
order in the pockets of the designated
folder.

Each week when I search for the coupon
and sales match ups online I always
see a date and the kind of insert (like Red Plum)
that the coupon was found in.

This way I don't have to clip
every single coupon whether I use it or not.
Now I can just go to the correct insert
and cut out the coupon(s) that I need.

Here's an example:

If you see this coupon match up online-
Folgers Instant coffee classic roast or decaf 8 oz $4.99
Use the $0.25/1 coupon found in the 2/6 RP

This means to look in the coupon
insert that came out on February 6th
found in Red Plum (RP)

SmartSource is SS.

------------------------------

10:45am

I got out 2 boxes of Valentine's Day
cards that I got last year after Valentine's
Day on clearance.
They were regular $5.99 each x's 2 is $11.98.
I paid $1.25 each x's 2 is $2.50.
I saved $9.48 on both by shopping clearance!!
They each have little candy box
valentine's filled with sweet tart candies.

I did up 64 of them,
that included 4 teacher Valentines.
Then put the kid's names on them.
My fingers went numb after that!

---------------------------------

12:15pm

Made a couple dozen chocolate chip
cookies for a Valentine's Day
party at school.
What I did was bake up some
cookies from a mix.
Once baked, and still hot on the tray,
I pressed in two mini candy
canes into the shape of a heart.
This way the heat from the cookies
would melt part of the candy cane
making them stay in place.

Also got laundry started in between
baking sheets of cookies.
Everyone must of decided they all
wanted their jackets washed today
so there's an extra load.

12:45pm

Now we're debating as to whether or not
to take Jonathan to Urgent Care.
He still has this persistent cough
that hasn't gone away after 4 days.
Now is starting to get a runny nose.
Still no fever though.
I don't feel as though he needs
to see a doctor since he has no fever.
But the cough can sound horrible
at times making him vomit.
The Vicks on the feet only masks the
cough for the time being but does not
get rid of it.

-----------------------------------

4:30pm

Just returned from Urgent Care
and Kroger to get prescriptions.
Jonathan got prescriptions
for cough and something else
he has to take for the next 4-5 days
to clear out the congestion
and infection.
Doc said to keep him home tomorrow
but Jonathan doesn't want to miss
out on his Valentine's party.
I gave him his medicine now
so he will have had it in his system
for 17 hours by the time he goes
to school tomorrow.

Oh guess what the doctor's name was?

Dr. Valentine!!
I thought that was soo funny.

Well time to go work on supper
and spend the rest of the evening
doing laundry.

The kids loved the breakfast pizza casserole
I made yesterday and requested another
one this evening.
I'm gonna make this one a little
different though.
This is something I made up,
had no recipe for.

2 cans biscuits
2 pkgs country gravy
1 pound maple sausage
6 eggs
1 cup shredded cheese

Press biscuits into bottom
of a greased casserole dish.
Put in preheated 350 degree oven
for 7 minutes.
Make country gravy according
to package directions, set aside
for a couple minutes to thicken, then spoon
over top of biscuits once
they come out of oven.
Fry up sausage, drain & rinse.
(optional- I added about 1/4 cup
diced red bell peppers)
Return to burner and stir
in beaten eggs until eggs are done
then sprinkle over gravy.
Top with shredded cheese and bake
about 10 minutes til cheese
has melted.

2 cans biscuits $1.00
2 pkgs country gravy $1.00
1 pound maple sausage $1.49
6 eggs .90 cents
1 cup shredded cheese .87 cents

Total cost for meal $5.26
6 servings @ .87 cents a serving.

-------------------------------

Lego words & sentences.
Put letters and words on Legos
with stickers and have your child
link them together to make
words and sentences.

---------------------------

Make toy snakes from ties.

.
trio of necktie snakes draped over the back of an armchair

These would make cute door draft
stoppers. Or how about adding
some rice to the insides for
a warm microwave or chilled
wrap around the neck?

10:30pm

Finally, after a week of trying
I was able to request another free paint
sample from Valspar.

Actually I put it in mom's name :0)

I'm gonna see what the
Toasted Wheat color looks like.
I really want the color Blonde
but Sherwin Williams makes it.
Has anyone had any luck with
Lowes color matching paints
with a sample from a different brand?

-----------------------------------

3:30pm

We just returned from the store
and the whole time Jonathan
kept having a coughing fit.
Even when we got home he was coughing
so hard his face turned beet red.
I got out the Kroger brand Vicks rub
and rubbed it all over his feet again
and then put socks over it.
I haven't heard a peep out of him
since doing this!!

Last night I woke up around 1-2am
hearing him having coughing fits.
I got up then and put more vapo
rub on his feet. Didn't hear much
more after that. Tony asked
me how I got him to stop coughing
and I told him I put more vapo
rub on his feet.
I think I read it lasts for about
4 hours maybe more so you
have to reapply it throughout the day.

I also read, but have not tried yet,
that when you have a headache
to put Vicks on your forehead.

Day 3 after painting some in the bathroom.
No one has yet to notice it!!
I could probably paint the whole
thing and they still would not notice.

-----------------------------

8:25pm

We all have been getting on this
exercise thingy magingy.
The boys must think it's some
kind of toy because they actually
fight over who gets to ride it, LOL!!
Hey, whatever works, right.

Yesterday I did about 1/3rd a mile
and tonight I got up to a 1/2 mile.
Slowly but surely as my body is
not used to exercising outside
of shopping or housework.

I have my own stair stepper which
is called the basement steps,
weights which are all the things
I pick up off the floor
and laundry I carry up
from the basement,
treadmill is the laps I make
around a grocery store.

I'd like to go to the thrift store
in the near future and find
a scale to monitor everyone's weight.
I told everyone it's not something
that will happen overnight with
losing weight and could
take up to a year.
I promised everyone a dollar
for every pound they lost
as an incentive to the kids.
This sounds like a lot to them
because kids don't know the
value of money. And if it
makes them exercise more,
more power to them.

I need to get pictures of everyone
and post them somewhere
where we can look at them,
like behind the basement door
so company can't see it.
Then each week continue
taking pictures to see if there
are any results.
Also post how much
weight lost or gained.

I think once you start losing weight,
you lose fat and water, then
you might see the pounds come back
on a little as you build muscle.

-----------------------------

10:15pm

With Valentine's Day just around the corner
I'll put me and my honey's songs
on here.
In April it will
be 12 years we've been together!

2-11-11

8:35am

Called mom this morning and canceled
our plans of going out to lunch
and taking her to the dentist today.
Kept Jonathan home from school
due to his persistent cough.
He seemed to do good throughout the
night with the Vick's on the bottoms
of his feet.

------------------------------

Clairol Colour Blend Foam

Yesterday between me and mom
we got 3 coupons in the mail
for free boxes of Nice'N Easy
foam hair coloring.
Now let's see if we can find it
in the stores.
Don't ya just hate it when you
have a freebie coupon
and the stores don't even carry the product.

At Kroger I got a catalina coupon
for a free Coffee-Mate creamer.

Here lately I've been seeing a lot
of pop coupons in the stores.
Last night I got a bunch of Coke
coupons. $1.00 off two 2 liter bottles
with the purchase of $4.00 or more
from the deli, meat, produce or
frozen food departments.
These were found in the front of
the store by the checkout.
Expires 4-30-11.

Other coupons I've found lately
in the store. Remember these will
double! Found on bottles,
hang tags, products and tear pads.

.50 cents off any Coke product.

Free 2 liter bottle of Coke
when you purchase 3 two liters.

Buy 3 two liters of Coke
and get $1.00 off.

$1.00 off three 2 liters of Sierra Mist.

.75 cents off Emeril's Seasoning.

.30 cents off 2 liter of Sun Drop (7UP product)

I swoop up on the pop coupons
and save them in hopes
of finding them on sale
for $1.00 or less.

---------------------------------------

Valentine's Day Idea

If you were lucky enough
to find candy canes marked down
after Christmas, now's the time
to put those to use.
I was able to find boxes of
candy canes at Kroger for .10 cents each.

Frost some cookies and place
two mini candy canes on top
in the shape of a heart.

Great for Valentine parties
at school!

-----------------------------------

10:30am

Cleaning my living room
and rearranging some furniture.
Trying to make room to put
an exercise thingy in here.
Not very many options
when you have a small space.
Got the curtains pulled open
and it feels good to let a little
sun shine on in here to brighten
up the place!
Whelp I gotta get back to work.

------------------------------

12:30pm

Tony and another maintenance guy
just brought over our
exercise machine.
Not too shabby for free
and something found next to the dumpster!!
Boy you sure do feel the
burn when using this thing!

------------------------------

4:00pm

I called WOW internet/cable/phone
to tell them our internet hasn't been
running the greatest and our phone
service is horrible. Always garbbled
and it cuts out while you are talking to
someone. They have me reboot the modem.
I told them I did that already yesterday
but we did it again.
Then she wants me to bypass our wireless router
and unplug the modem and plug
the computer directly into the router.
DUH - I have a wireless router for a reason,
not to have to take my computer into
another room, what a pain in the butt.
I just told her I would do that at another
time. She thinks our router is bad.
For $50+ and only 2-3 years old, it
better not be bad.
I can't understand why our wireless router
would have anything to do with our phone.
We don't get a wireless signal to our phone.
Then she says I should delete my history
and cookies on my computer
that it could be causing it to run slow.
Come on now, we have several computers
and it's not just my computer
that's having problems with the internet
loading slowly.

I know if I were to change cable companies
I would have the same problems because
they all run through the same cable
lines. It's just a matter of finding
the right cable person who knows how to fix
the problem without charging me
anymore!

------------------------------

5:40pm

Just got supper in the oven.
We're having breakfast pizza.

-2 cans refrigerated biscuits $1.00
-leftover tomato puree- free

and sugar to sauce:

-1 pkg (2 cups) shredded cheese - $1.67
-8 scrambled eggs with
fat free ranch dressing used instead of milk
-$1.20

into pieces- .50 cents

Press biscuits into bottom of a
casserole dish. Spoon and spread
tomato puree on top.
Sprinkle cheese evenly over sauce.
Top with cut up bacon and
scrambled eggs. Bake 350 for 15 minutes or so
or until biscuits are done in center of dish.

2-10-11

Brrr, Brrr and double Brrr!
We have a wind chill advisory til 11:00am.
A wind chill advisory means
that it could feel -10 to -24 degrees
outside with the wind blowing.

7:50am and it's
1 degree outside.
but feels like -7 degrees.

Next week we are supposed to have
temperatures in the mid 40's.
That will for sure feel like a heat wave!!

---------------------------

9:00am

Last night we had chili for supper
and had lots of leftovers.
So this morning I worked
on tonight's supper and things
for the freezer.
I reserved a bowl of chili for the freezer
for Tony's lunch one day
and the rest I made into chili dog sauce.

Leftover Chili

I added another can of pork and
beans to the leftover chili
and put it in the food processor
and pulsed it a few time
to ground down the beans
to thicken the sauce.
Everyone likes beans except
for one child so by doing this
maybe I'll get him to eat more beans
if he isn't able to see them.
A bowl of chili
and 2 containers of chili dog sauce
will go into the freezer.
We will have chili dogs tonight
with the 3rd container.

Here is the breakdown for the
cost of 3 1/2 meals.

All but the beans, salsa and
seasoning was marked down in the store!

3 cans pork & beans $2.40
1 pound ground maple sausage $1.49
1 jar chunky salsa $2.00
1 packet chili seasoning .50 cents
1 large can whole tomatoes with juice
cut up .49 cents
1/3 cup diced red bell peppers .33 cents
2 pkgs hot dogs plus 2 leftover hot dogs $1.40

Total cost: $8.61

Serves:

1 chili meal- 4 servings
1 chili lunch meal- 1 serving
2 chili hot dog meals- 8 servings
1 chili hot dog lunch meal- 1 serving
Total of 14 servings
@ .61 cents a serving

1 serving equals:
1 bowl of chili
or 2 chili dogs.

So if you only have 1 chili dog
at a meal then the servings will go up
and the cost per servings will go down.
It all depends on how much you eat
at one sitting.

-----------------------------------

Check out all the freebies
my friend Kendra gave me!!
This was soooo nice of her!
I know, not good for the diet.
But I can use some for the
kid's Valentine's day party at school.
Surprisingly I got a letter
with a list of stuff they could
bring in and one choice was
chocolate chip cookies.
The other cookie mixes I'll use
to work on the Betty Crocker cookie
mix contest when it rolls around again.
.
I ended up giving Kendra the
espresso maker we got the other day.
We really have no use for it
so would rather see it go to a
good home where someone will use it.

------------------------------

9:45am

This doesn't look good across the street.
They are digging up this lady's
yard. Don't know why as I haven't
talked to her in awhile.
She's in her 90's so doesn't come
out much in the cold weather.
All I see are dollar signs all over
this project with heavy machinery involved!
Worrying me as we could be next
with whatever went wrong over there.
One street over has all the yards
down the street
dug up with holes in them
and fencing around them.

---------------------------------------

I'm ready for a little sunshine
and warmer weather.
This time of year is so depressing.
Cooped up in the house
staring at a pile of doctor bills.
And they keep on coming.
Makes you depressed, not feel
like doing anything other than
going back to bed.
Got one kid who now has a cough.
I just cringe at sniffles, coughs
and fevers. He did go to school today
so that's good.
As for myself I just sit here.
Can't get motivated to do anything.

----------------------------------

11:35am

Decided to go paint part of the bathroom.
I did around the doors.
I won't say anything so will
see how long it takes for anyone
to notice.
The original color on the walls
was a mix between white, gray
and maybe a tint of purple.
I want something that's
going to warm up the walls some
so it doesn't look so cold.
I think it works with the flooring well.

Glidden sent me a free quart of paint
so it's gonna cost me nothing.
The color is Cyprus Grass.

So I'm painting away in the bathroom
listening to the radio when I heard
this commercial for Lowes.
They said they have a $5.00 rebate
on Valspar paint. So if you were
one of the lucky ones to get their
recent paint sample with the $5.00
off coupon that means you could
get $10 total off that gallon of paint you need.

Now what to do.
I want the color Blonde by Sherwin Williams
but have $10 off Valspar at Lowes.
I tried once before to have them
tint my paint from another brand
of color chips and they wouldn't do it.

----------------------------------------

12:45pm

They've still been digging away
in the neighbor's yard.
Looks worse and worse.
I'm gonna guess a water line.
The dirt pile is almost as tall as
a one story house.

Now take a look at the tree behind the digger,
go up to the first branch on the righ that
looks like an elbow.
In the elbow is a hole in the tree where
birds live.
Zoomed in with camera-
I see Sparrows AND little
black birds coming in and out
of that hole.
I'm sure they are freaked out
by all the commotion.

------------------------------------

1:30pm

Well I spoke too freakin' soon,
must've jinxed myself.
Ya know you would think
someone would say something
about digging in your front yard,
or at least tell you what is going on.
Nope!
Now I got another worker
wandering around the yard walking
up between our house and the neighbors.
Getting worried.
Will our yard look ok come Spring & Summer?
Then I peak out the door and
there's an ambulance sitting
at a neighbor's house up the street.
Too much action around here today!

Couldn't they've done this yesterday
when the kids had no school.
This would have kept them entertained!
.Just noting this backhoe is sitting
on our sidewalk should they
crack or damage it.
Also noting the yellow fluid
leaking from it.
.Ain't this such a pretty picture
out our window,
and in our side yard.
Most utility companies are out front
like gas, water & sewer.
And just think,
this is where the bus stops
in the afternoon!

----------------------------------

2:15pm

Just had a neighbor about 4 doors
down on the other side of the street
call me. She like, "What in the
world is going on down there?"
I'm like, "Beats me, your guess is
as good as mine."
She wants me to look out for
her grandson who also gets
off the kids bus. Wants to make
sure they don't linger around
all this heavy machinery.

-------------------------------

8:30pm

Maybe I shouldn't have eaten
chili dogs for supper tonight.
We had supper at 5:30,
it's now 8:30pm and I still feel
stuffed and bloated.
You know that feeling when
you hit the buffet and your ribs
hurt, well that's how I feel 3 hours
after eating!

Tony took us over to his work
to show us what another maintenance
guy found today beside a dumpster.
We've been wanting an exercise machine
to start working out. Something
that worked the upper and lower body.
Tony asked me if it was something
we could use and I said yes.
So hoping to bring it home tomorrow.
I want to set it up in our living room
so whoever is working out can watch
tv at the same time.
I did a test run on it and it felt
weird once I got off it.
It felt almost as though I was
still on it when I walked and
had a spring in my step, lol.

My internet and phone is acting
up once again. Things are not loading
on our computers and the phone sound
like it's under water.
Here's a picture of one like
it I found.
It has a screen with
all kinds of readouts
and a fan.
ProForm XP 115 Elliptical Trainer Used/Great Condition

About ready to just head to bed and watch
some tv. Can't stand this internet
acting up at the moment and nothing loading.

I didn't get to see this video but it
appeared to be something similar
to the exercise machine we're getting.
It's a ProForm XP 110 Elliptical.

Oh, one more thing before I get off here,
no one has yet to notice I painted
part of the bathroom!!

It's funny how paint looks different colors
during certain times of the day.
During the daytime it looks like a
light yellow and at night it looks
like a light green.

----------------------------

9:50pm

Oh goodie, got a kid that keeps
coughing and now has thrown up
because of it.
Just what I want to do at almost 10pm
is carpet clean.
Trying the home remedy of rubbing
Vicks all over the bottoms
of his feet and putting socks over them.
Supposed to curb the cough, we'll see.
Also have the humidifier going
and gave him a does of Zarbees
natural cough syrup with honey.

Was supposed to take mom
back to the dentist tomorrow
but it doesn't look like I can.
Probably will keep Jonathan
home from school.

I feel like throwing in the towel.
It's always something!!
There's got to be a light at
the end of this dark tunnel!!!!
Because at the moment I can't seem get ahead.

Want to get an idea of how
much your tax return will be?
Try out the H&R Tax Calculator,
it's free to use.

------------------------------

Tonight we need to make a run
to Kroger to pick up some milk.
Might grab a few other things in there.
I'm thinking about some chili
tomorrow done up in the crock pot.
Chili and cold weather go hand in hand!
Here's a different way to make
chili using baked beans.

Of course I'll tweak it to what I
have on hand.
No tomato juice so will use crushed tomatoes.
instead of ground beef I'll
use 1 pound (not 2) ground maple sausage.
Maybe use just 2 cans of baked beans.
And I'll use a jar of salsa
which has bell peppers, onions & tomatoes.

Any leftover chili could be thickened
up and used over hot dogs.
I know, how do you thicken chili?
Either mush up another can of beans
and/or add a can of tomato paste.

Hot dogs are not good for the diet
but I have them and don't want
them to go to waste!

Any processed meat like hot dogs,
bologna, sausage should be limited
in your diet.

What kind of beans are used in baked beans?
Most of the time it's navy beans.
It got it's name from the early
20th century because it
was a staple food for the US Navy.

------------------------------

Columbus doesn't have school today.
It's Professional Development Day,
a learning day for educators.

------------------------------

I am so ready to start my Spring cleaning
or in my case I'll call it Spring Weeding,
weeding out clutter.
I've got my honey keeping an eye
out for boxes at work so
I can start getting a supply of them.
Don't want to go to the nearest shopping
center and look for boxes because
security around here will stop
you and say you are stealing them
from the dumpsters!
Been there done that and that
is one of the most stupidest things I've heard!

On top of weeding out I have so
many other projects I want
to do this year once I get done
with decluttering like
painting the basement, bathroom,
maybe kitchen and living room.
(want to tone down the yellow paint
in the living room).
Carpet & padding in basement.
Remove couch & love seat from basement
and get rid of it. Due to a damp basement,
I don't think it would be in our best interest
to keep them. I do have a dehumidifier
I want to use down there. While it did
work it started getting frost on the coils.
So Tony took it to work and said the
reason it was doing that was because
it was collecting dust behind the coils.
He got it all cleaned up for me.
I think I spent like $5 on the dehumidifier
at a church sale.

And another project I would like
to do is remove carpet from the
living & dining room & hallway.
I'm willing to take my chances with
the condition of the hardwood floors
underneath.

If all goes well this is what we should
find underneath. Our house used
to be a rental, so the question is this,
did the rental have hardwood floors
that possibly got messed up by
tenants over the years or did it have carpet?

One day, and I'm not saying this year
or when it would be,
I would like to chisel out all the tile
on the kitchen floor. Not a huge fan
of tile floors. They crack and the
grout gets so dirty! Would like
to get a sheet of floor vinyl that
looks like wood and install in there.
You can find this
at stores like Rite Rug and could
possibly find remnant sheets that would
work for small areas that are even cheaper.
Here's what a vinyl floor looks like:

Floor Type:

Vinyl Sheet

----------------------------------

I've been looking through so many
yellow paint colors that it's not funny.
Finding the right yellow isn't easy!
I'm really liking this yellow called Blonde
by Sherwin Williams.

The Blonde paint seems to be a popular
color when compared to other yellow colors.

------------------------------

They let Tony off work early today at 1pm
due to him having too much overtime.
That's ok, he still ended up
with 17.5 hours overtime!

Went to Kroger this afternoon.
Found some multigrain bread
for .79 cents each.
Also found some 7up 2 liters products
on sale for .88 cents.
On 6 bottles I found .30 cent coupons.
So double that to .60 cents off
and it made each 2 liter only .28 cents each!!

I've been seeing a lot of coupons
for Sierra Mist and Coke on 2 liter
bottles. Been snatching them up
in hopes of $1.00 or less sale
in the near future.

2-8-11

I was watching a couple
episodes of The Duggar's last night.
The youngest daughter Josie
had on a set of faux pigtails.
This was a great idea for people
who have baby girls with little
hair and can't wait for it to grow

They run about $20 to $25 though
for the headband and two pigtails.

3:20pm

Decided to try out the Nespresso
espresso maker to see if it worked
and it does!!
Should've got my reaction to me
trying to drink coffee, lol.
YUCK! cough, cough, gag!
I even diluted it some by running
it a couple times, filled my cup
half full of milk and added
a teaspoon of splenda.
I'd rather eat oatmeal than
drink this stuff!
I think I'd get the same taste
if I licked my dirty floor.
I'll stick with my diet cola
thank you very much.
I've never liked coffee unless
it's a coffee toffee cappucino from Speedway.
This will be good for Tony who
sometimes only wants
a cup or two of coffee.

Many times I've seen cream
marked down at Kroger.
Here are some recipes that
look easy to do to make your
own butter.
Pure butter, no added oils
and whatever else the manufacture's
put in there.

Butter made with cream and yogurt.

Here is another butter recipe
kids can help make.

You use a jar with lid, 2 marbles
and heavy cream filled half way.
Shake until butter forms.
It could take up to 20 minutes
to do it this way without
the food processor but it would
give your kids something to do :0)
She has a video as well
of her kids making it.

You can make butter like the first
video without adding any yogurt
and using just cream.
This recipe doesn't require any
overnight sitting and can
be made right away.

You can freeze butter!
So whip you up a couple batches
and store them in freezer containers.
Can last 9 months to a year on average,
sometimes longer.
It's best if you wrap butter in
foil then pack into freezer bags.
Butter can absorb flavors from other
foods easily is why you would want
to do this.

-----------------------------

This next recipe of mine doesn't
involve butter, lol.
I started doing the oatmeal mask
which became very messy.
Once dry it started to crumble
and flake off. Plus it was messy
and sticky to apply.

So instead, I filled an old, clean sock
with about 1/4 cup ground oatmeal.
I poured hot tap water into a large
bowl and soaked the sock.
Then would squeeze the sock
many times to release the oatmeal.

Once done I poured it into
an empty peanut butter jar with lid.

Now at night before bed, I dip
my finger tips into the jar. It
feels a little slimy. I rub the oatmeal
water all over my face and neck.
Then I sit in front of a fan til it dries.
You can feel it tighten your skin.
I leave it on my face overnight.
This morning I used a diaper wipe
to wipe my face just in case it left
any kind of residue behind and
nothing showed up on the wipe
which meant it's either on my
pillow or it all absorbed into my skin.
My face and neck feel really soft and
smooth.

You could also use a sock filled
with oatmeal in your bathwater if you
have dry skin, chicken pox, eczema
poison ivy or other skin problems of the sort.
It is much better for you than things
they sell on the store shelves because
it's all natural.

Today's lunch

1 pack tuna fish 1 gram fat
tablespoon dill relish 0 fat
2 slices whole wheat bread 3 grams fat
couple tablespoons fat free mayo

How many grams of fat should
a person consume daily?
It really depends upon the person's
age, weight, height and so on.
Here is a basic guideline for people
with a certain amount of calories
consumed each day.

The United States Health Department states the following on their site:

A 1,600 calorie per day diet:
18 grams of saturated fat or less,
53 grams of fat or less.

A 2,000 calorie per day diet:
20 grams of saturated fat or less,
65 grams of fat or less.

A 2,200 calorie per day diet:
24 grams of saturated fat or less,
73 grams of fat or less.

A 2,500 calorie per day diet:
25 grams of saturated fat or less,
80 grams of fat or less .

A 2,800 calorie per day diet:
31 grams of saturated fat or less,
93 grams of fat or less.

Keep in mind that most women should have a diet
of no more than 2,000 calories/day,
men no more than 2,500/day.

If you are trying to lose weight, 30 grams of fat.

If you are a young teenager about 40-65 grams of fat.

Consuming more than 65 grams of fat a day is unhealthy.

No more than 40 grams per day for a child.

A general recommendation for kids 9-11
is 2,300 calories a day.

Once I get into Spring cleaning
mode and start weeding out
more stuff I want to turn
part of my coat closet into
a pantry closet. It has a large
shelf off to the side of where
you hang coats. I could put more
shelves in there somehow
use it to store dry food.
AND I want to put a keyed lock
on the door to keep kids out
of it. Right now they have
access to too many foods that
they are sneaking off with.
So gonna fix that problem!

-----------------------------------

Supper 5:00pm

Ham & bean soup,
cornbread, salad with
fat free salad dressing.

Why include beans into your diet?

All varieties of beans are rich sources of
protein, fiber, and the essential amino
acid, lysine.
Lysine is missing from most grains,
which is why the combination,
“rice and beans” makes a complete protein.
Many beans also contain folacin as
well as some minerals..

Another thing is I am trying really
hard not to buy as much of is boxed
convenience foods (ex: hamburger helper)
or ready foods like entrees
unless I check the nutritional label
and it's like a lean cuisine or weight watchers.
Do not get Hungry Man entrees!
We loved those things until
I checked the nutritional label
and it scared me!!

5:45pm

Getting ready to head out for a few.
Got a library book to pick up and
a few to drop off.
Then once I get home I'll show y'all
what my honey found in an apartment
he was punching out today.
Punching out means getting the apartment
ready for a new resident for those
who aren't familiar with those terms.

---------------------------------

6:45pm

Why do people have to be so rude.
I saw someone sitting for a minute
waiting for someone to back out
of a parking spot at the library.
As soon as that person backed out
someone whizzed around the corner
and took that spot. That takes
a lot of nerve!

Anyway here's the pics of
what my honey found for me today.

3 mixing bowls,
2 Lysols, softsoap,
2 salts, metal coffee travel mug,
grippie liner.

2 storage containers,
garnier shampoo, pomegranet candle,
box of staples, lotions.

2 jumbo jugs of clorox,
1 jumbo jug of softsoap.

Large bottle of Palmolive dish soap,
3 hand towels & 2 bath towels,
one of which still has the tag on it.

This is a Nespresso D110 espresso maker.
About crapped myself when
I saw how much they cost.
Anywhere from $265 to $300!!!

What is the difference between espresso and drip coffee?

I wanted to show you the gerbil
playpen I made.
We take the gerbils out of their
cage every evening and let
them run around in it
and get some exercise.

9:00pm

I am guilty of giving into my sweet
tooth and have a habit of wanting
cookies. I was looking for something
at bedtime that everyone could eat,
could satisfy a sweet tooth, have
as a snack and be filling at the same time.
Something that would stick with you
not having you wanting more snacks
within the hour.
And I would like to start making
oatmeal for breakfasts in the morning.

Starting tonight I am trying to get
everyone into a habit of liking
and eating oatmeal.
I, myself, do not like eating oatmeal
but are forcing myself to eat it
and like it.
I got both kids and myself to eat it
by adding in some Splenda
and cinnamon.

Eating oatmeal daily with your
diet is very good for you!

Over 40 studies show that eating oatmeal may help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. According to Quaker, all it takes is 3/4 cup of oatmeal each day to help lower cholesterol. The soluble fiber in oats helps remove LDL or "bad" cholesterol, while maintaining the good cholesterol that your body needs. In January 1997, the Food and Drug Administration announced that oatmeal could carry a label claiming it may reduce the risk of heart disease when combined with a low-fat diet.

The soluble fiber in oatmeal absorbs a considerable amount of water which significantly slows down your digestive process. This result is that you'll feel full longer, i.e. oatmeal can help you control your weight.

New research suggests that eating oatmeal may reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes. In fact, the American Diabetes Association already recommends that people with diabetes eat grains like oats. The soluble fiber in these foods help to control blood glucose levels.

With the exception of certain flavored varieties, the oats found in your grocery store are 100% natural. If you look at the ingredients on a canister of rolled oats, you will usually see only one ingredient... rolled oats.

According to recent studies, a diet that includes oatmeal may help reduce high blood pressure. The reduction is linked to the increase in soluble fiber provided by oatmeal. Oats contain more soluble fiber than whole wheat, rice or corn.

.
Oatmeal contains a wide array of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is a good source of protein, complex carbohydrates and iron.

.
The fiber and other nutrients found in oatmeal may actually reduce the risk for certain cancers.

.
Oatmeal is quick and convenient. Every type of oatmeal can be prepared in a microwave oven. Even when cooked on the stovetop, both old-fashioned and quick oats can usually be made in less than 10 minutes. And what about instant oatmeal… a hot breakfast in under a minute... incredible!

10 Ways To Make Instant Oatmeal Instantly More Exciting

10 WAYS TO MAKE INSTANT OATMEAL INSTANTLY MORE EXCITING
  1. Add fresh or frozen fruit. Sliced bananas are particularly good. A little fistful of frozen blueberries not only add flavor to instant oatmeal, but your mouth will marvel over the inviting temperature / texture differential when you bite into each little berry.

  2. Add dried fruit such as raisins, dried cranberries, dried cherries, dates or sweetened shredded coconut.

  3. Add chopped nuts like walnuts or almonds. Finely chopped nuts can create a tasty crumbled topping.

  4. Add a tablespoon or two of your favorite granola. Mushy boring oatmeal is yesterday's business. Today you can easily add a delightful crunch to any bowl of oatmeal.

  5. Add a dribble of pure delicious maple syrup.

  6. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Never be afraid of more flavor.

  7. Add a little dollop of yogurt. Flavored yogurts add taste and all yogurts add a smooth creamy texture.

  8. Crush a little handful of your favorite dry breakfast cereal onto your oatmeal. Cap'n Crunch oatmeal anyone?

  9. Stir in a couple teaspoons of your jam or fruit preserves and turn your oatmeal into a fruity fiesta bowl.

  10. Add a single tablespoon of ice cream to your oatmeal. Your mouth will go crazy with pleasure as the cool ice cream mingles with the warm oats.

It's very hard sticking with a diet
and eating new foods while giving
up foods that we've loved for so many years!

It helps me when I write about it
to better understand what to
eat, what's healthy and what is not.
It sticks in my head helping
me to remember.

Another thing I started this afternoon
was this:

I got out my jumbo cupcake pan.
3 cups for each child.

In each cup I placed individual servings
of snacks that were around 3 grams
of fat or less.

Between after school and bedtime
these were all the snacks the kids
were allowed to have.

At the moment I don't have a whole lot
to choose from til I make a list
and stock up at the store with more
healthy snacks.
But anyway this is what was in the tray
tonight:

-5 Ritz Vegetable Crackers
-7 Nilla Wafers
-10 Animal Crackers

This way the kids can visualize
how many and what kinds of food
are good for them.

Of course the animal crackers
and nilla wafers went first
because there was more of them.
But they had the same fat amount
as the ritz crackers.

One day I could put out 3 chips
and 10 animal crackers.
Let them see what they would
rather have.
More than likely they would
choose the 10 animal crackers
because it is more.
And realize hey, if it's fatty foods
I don't get as much of it.

One day I could put in the cups
some fruit or veggies and say you can have
as much of those as you want.
Or do you want those 3 chips
or 5 Ritz crackers?

It's all a learning process.
