Zarbee's All Natural Cherry Children's Cough Syrup

$3.00 off Zarbee's Cough Syrup coupon.
Watch Walgreens ads for it to possibly go on sale again.
The last time they had a sale it made it free and I got 2 of them!

---------------------------------------

Breakfast this morning.
I made up a pkg of strawberry muffin mix.
It made 5 muffins. I then took
a couple tablespoons of sliced strawberries
in a little juice and added a couple tablespoons
cream cheese frosting and poured over top the warm muffins.
.

The clock's ticking down. Today is the last
day of any baking I have to do for my cookie bags.
Tomorrow is the last day of school before Winter break
and a couple guys at Tony's work are going on vacation
next week. So need to get those gift bags done today!!
AHHHHHHHH!!
Then between today and tomorrow I have to wrap up
ALL Christmas gifts or else I don't know when I would
get it done with the kids out of school next week.
For years we've been doing it Christmas eve.
I don't have the energy to keep doing that and
be able to stay up half the night.

-------------------------------------------

8:05am

The boys are loving their new hats and gloves.
They couldn't wait to go outside and try them out.
It gets pretty darn cold standing out at the
bus stop when it gets in the single digits or below
and then add in the wind chill, BRRR!
Luckily the bus has been coming on time
or a few minutes early.
It's starting to flurry this morning.
I think we're supposed to get 1 inch of snow today.
Further South could get up to 4 or so.

----------------------------------------

Oh have I got a news story for ya.
Remember the apartment that we recently went
into that was an eviction at Tony's work?

Now check out this news story found on channel 10.
I'm sure we've all heard this story on the news recently.
.
This photo appeared with the July engagement announcement in a Warren, Ohio newspaper..

Man Shot Outside Dublin Business; Woman In Custody

Police: Called-Off Engagement Led To Shooting

Police ID Woman Arrested for Shooting Man in Dublin

Well this is the couple who lived in that apartment.
This took place after they moved out due to the
eviction though.

How did I find out?
My hubby told me Fox 28 was out yesterday
at the apartment complex trying to locate someone
to talk to
only knowing their last known address.
But they had been evicted a month earlier so
no longer lived there.
So I did a people search on her name to see
if I could locate an address. And sure
enough it came back to that exact apartment!
How crazy is that???!!!

They had to of been evicted around the week
of November 14th and this happened
December 14th.

9:30am

Got all the rice krispie bark broken up,
put in zip bags and divided among all the gift bags.

11:15am

Just made up about 60 peanut butter cookies.
I sometimes make up recipes as I go.
I knew I wanted to make peanut butter
cookies and I also wanted to make fudge
today. So why not combine the two?
So here's my recipe:

Peanut Butter Fudge Cups

In a large microwavable bowl
add a package of chocolate chips.
Microwave a minute or so until chips
are melted. You may have to stir every 30 seconds.
Remove from microwave and stir in a
tub of fudge frosting. Stir to mix well.
Place in fridge while you make the cookies.

I made a Krusteaz peanut butter cookie mix
according to package directions.
I then sprayed mini muffin pans with
cooking spray.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Then spoon 1/2 tablespoon cookie dough
into each muffin cup and press down with fingers.
Bake 7-9 minutes.
Remove from oven and immediately
press indentation into center of cookie
while still warm. I found that an old, empty
and small prescription bottle fit well into those cups.
Allow to sit 1-2 minutes
then flip pan over and slightly bang on counter
to remove cookies.
Place on wired rack to cool.

Remove fudge from fridge.
You should be able to roll in palm
without sticking too much.
If it does slightly wet hands.

Spoon 3/4 teaspoonfuls of fudge into
your palm and roll into a ball.
Press fudge ball into the center of the
cookie cups. Dip tops into chopped peanuts.

Makes about 60 mini peanut butter fudge cups.
.

-------------------------------------

Here is an antique table hubby brought home
yesterday that was left behind in an apartment.
My mom & step-dad will get this for Christmas.
It is solid wood. Has 3 drawers on the front
and compartments on each side with
hinged lids. It has a stamp on the underside
of one of the drawers but I can't read what it
says.
At first glance I thought it was a jewelry box
but ruled that out. Then thought it was a
telephone table but that didn't explain the side compartments.
Then I said maybe it's a side table where a woman could keep her knitting in those side compartments.
I was trying to do some research and my last guess was right!
It IS a Martha Washington sewing table.

Made from solid mahogany wood.
From the 1930's?

This type cabinet is commonly called a Martha Washington sewing cabinet. Her original sewing cabinet had an open space in the middle with no drawers. This is a Depression era reproduction of a table made in 1815. Martha Washington died in 1802.

.------------------------------------------------

Oooh oooh I wanted to tell you what we saw at
Kroger yesterday. You're never gonna believe this!!
5 isle displays with Reeses EASTER candy in it!!
Easter is April 24th.
OVER 4 months away!!!

-----------------------------------------------

6:00pm

Made another batch of the
peanut butter fudge cups
and a batch of sugar and spice gum drop cookies.

------------------------------------------

Not sure if anyone knew but we have quintuplets
in our family!! It's on my dad's side of the family.
I cannot imagine having 5 babies at once!
I don't think sleep would be possible.

.
.

-------------------------------------------

9:00pm

Got the gift bags done and loaded
up in a laundry basket for my hubby to take to work.
Isn't it just like a husband to tell you things last minute.
He tells me tonight he needs a gift for a gift exchange tomorrow! AHHHHHH!
I rounded up three smelly candles I bought
last year on clearance and put in a gift bag.
Total cost .75 cents!

Also got his boss' kid's gift wrapped up.
We exchange gifts between our kids and the boss' kid.
I snatched up 4 beaded and 3 ribbon pony tail
holders, 2 sparkly headbands and a package of
4 cupcake lip gloss last Christmas when stuff was marked
down 75% off! I put all her stuff in a small
Diesel brand purse that I found recently.
So this whole gift probably cost me a couple dollars at the most!

Time to wrap presents tomorrow
and start to get my house put back together!
I'm so tired and my back and head hurts.
It's a no wonder people drink and celebrate
on New Year's eve, Christmas is finally over with by then!!
I'm not a drinker but one sounds good right
about now!

Cutting back on electric and lowering your
electric bill. This is not something you
do every once in awhile, it has to be
done all the time to see a difference!
So get in the habit!

Our electric bill runs about $75 a month.
I am not on a budget for electric or gas!

-Turn off those Christmas lights when going to bed!
I don't think there are many people out at 2am
looking at Christmas lights!

-Flourescent bulbs.

-I have three bulbs in my ceiling fan and
only use one. This puts out enough light
to light up our dining and living room.

-I constantly go around and turn off things
like tv's or lights left on in the kids bedrooms.

-Set tv on a timer to shut off if you watch it when going
to bed.

-smaller refrigerator. We would love to have a larger
one but have been doing ok with a small fridge.
It doesn't run as much as a larger one.

-Keep freezers full so it won't have to run as much.
Put gallons of water in it to freeze if you don't
have enough food to fill it up.

-phantom power: Any appliance or electronic device
that uses a remote control or has a clock
uses electric when turned off.
Things like coffee makers, microwaves, tvs, stereos,
game systems, dvd/vhs/dvr players and so on. Plug all these
things into a power strip and turn everything
completely off when not in use.

-I set my air conditioner on 75 degrees.
and my heat on 72 degrees.
When at work turn down the temperature in the Winter
when not at home. Same in the Summer time for AC.
The more you lower it in the winter the more you save.
Same with Summer. 1-3 degrees will make a
difference in your bill.
Wear sweaters if need be if you are chilled
instead of turning up the thermostat.
I like to turn on the electric blanket for
about a half hour then turn it off when getting
ready to go to sleep. It stays warm under the covers
for awhile.

-instead of using a dryer during the warmer weather
I hang clothes outside on the line.

-wash laundry in warm or cold water instead of hot.

-change furnace filter often.

-do not place tvs or other electronics that produce
heat near the thermostat.

-do full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine.
I try to run them in the evening hours and not
peak hours during the day when possible.

-I run the ceiling fan 24-7.
It helps to circulate warm or cool air
and puts less stress on your furnace or ac.

-Use microwaves or crock pots more often
for cooking rather than using your stove or oven.

-wrap your water heater in the Winter.
Turn it down a couple degrees.

-When using an electric stove top,
turn off the burner a couple minutes before
your food is done. It will still have heat
and continue to cook your food.
Do the same with your oven.
Use the correct pan size on burners.
Keep burner pans clean so they can reflect
heat better.

-do not use the heat cycle on the dishwasher
to dry your dishes.

-defrost your freezer or it will use more energy
with ice build up.

-keep lint screen to dryer clean.
Check exhaust outside to see that there
is no lint build up.

-use motion detector lights for outside lights
instead of keeping them on all night.

-clean light fixtures to make for a more
brighter light. Bulbs can collect dust
and so can those globes on the ceiling.

-In the Winter open your blinds/curtains
on sunny days. The sun can heat your home a couple degrees and also reduces the use for lights to be turned on.
Close at night to hold heat in.

-turn your printer off when not in use.
Use the sleep mode on your computer when not in use.

-clean coils on refrigerator at least
twice a year.

-buy energy efficient appliances when possible.

-install a hot water heater timer.

No on call pager today or tomorrow for
my hubby. Thank goodness.
He worked 2 days for another guy
who was on call about a month ago
when that guy was sick
and now it's this guys turn to make up
for those two days.
Then hubby will have it Fri-Sun
and won't have it again for another month.
Will take advantage of the moment
and go to Kmart this eve to see about
those gloves! And pick up some prescriptions
from Kroger for Tony.
As for prescriptions, I have not taken mine yet
for helping stop smoking. I'm thinking
about doing it starting the beginning of the year
and letting the holidays go by first :0)
Because with these meds come the possible side effects of suicidal thoughts and increased anxiety.
Not something I need at the moment during the
holidays!! So will wait til a not so stressful time
to do this!

9:40am

Just completed something I'll call
Minty Marshmallow Mounds
since it is something I made up.
1- 6 ounce box of peppermint patties
1 cup chocolate chips (or 2 chocolate bark blocks)
2 Tablespoons shortening
2-3 cups cocoa krispies
2-3 cups mini marshmallows

Over low heat melt peppermint patties,
chocolate chips & shortening in saucepan.
Stir in cocoa krispies until well coated
then stir in marshmallows.
Continue stirring over low heat until
marshmallows start to melt but not completely.

Scoop by tablespoonfuls onto cookies
sheets lined with wax paper.
Allow to sit until chocolate hardens.
Makes about 41.

10:40am

Hand dipped 170 pretzel nuggets
in chocolate and then sprinkled with colored sugar.

Winter starts next week!

Weather predictions from the Farmer's Almanac
for the Midwest & Great Lakes region.

December 2010
12th-15th. Stormy.
16th-19th. Dry, turning colder.
20th-23rd. Light snow east through Ohio River Valley, then becoming fair.
24th-27th. Fair, cold for Christmas.
28th-31st. Some snow showers, flurries.

January 2011
1st-3rd. Fair, followed by increasing clouds.
4th-7th. Stormy, with periods of snow for Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio; a wintry mix (snow, sleet, rain) for Kentucky.
8th-11th. Fair, turning colder.
12th-15th. Unsettled, with chilly winds.
16th-19th. Snowstorm

.
20th-23rd. Stormy conditions exit, followed by clearing.
24th-27th. Another round of snow.
28th-31st. Generally fair.

February 2011
1st-3rd. Very unsettled weather Kentucky up through the Great Lakes.
4th-7th. Becoming fair and much colder across the Midwest.
8th-11th. Snow for Ohio River north.

Old Man Winter will exhibit a “split personality” throughout North America. Over the coming months, along the East Coast, from the Canadian Maritimes down to Florida and as far west as the lower Ohio River and Mississippi River Valley, is expected to experience colder-than-normal winter temperatures.

Meanwhile, for the western states and provinces, milder-than-normal winter temperatures are expected, from the Pacific Coast inland as far as the Rockies and the western Great Plains. Near the center of the continent, in the American Midwest, Saskatchewan, and parts of Alberta and Manitoba, look for near-normal winter temperatures, with average amounts of cold and snow.

All things considered, when comparisons to last year are made, we believe that for most, it will turn out to be a “kinder and gentler” winter overall.

Got the graham toffee brittle all broke up
into pieces.
The cookies/candy I did this morning
got all zip bagged up and put into the gift bags.
Whew! I'm done with baking for

26 pages of printable coupons!

I've been printing and collecting tons of those chocolate,
candy, baking & candles (like Glade) coupons.
Those items are due to go on sale at least 50%
or more after Christmas.
Add in some of these coupons for even
better deals!!
I keep them all in an envelope in my purse
and mark on the outside of the envelope all
the coupons that are inside.
That way I have them with me wherever I shop
and see the mark downs.

There's also a coupon or two for $5.00 off
Enfamil Premium for infants & Toddlers.

Also watch for some toys to go on sale
after Christmas for 50% off.
Christopher's birthday is less than two weeks
after Christmas. We take him out to pick out a
toy he wants and give him $20 to $25 for
his birthday. We usually find toys that are
$40 to $50 marked down half price to $20-$25 from
Christmas!!

8:35pm

Took everyone out for supper at McDonalds
with the buy 1 get 1 coupons we got this week.
My kitchen is wiped out from baking so figured
we'd eat out tonight, lol.

Stopped in Kroger afterwards.
Had to wait on a prescription so we walked around
the store. We ran into our butcher friend who was
out by the hams. He marked down
a 6.97 pound ham for me.
He knows when I'm there that I shop
for those manager special meats.
reg. price $15.26 @ $2.19 a pound
sale price $7.53 @ .88 cents a pound
and I got it for $4.53 or .63 cents a pound!
Then we head to the checkout.
The cashier told us we might want to find
another lane because the lady he was checking
out had forgot her purse and had to run
home to get it! And I'm thinking he's holding
her groceries at the checkout while she goes home????

From there we went to Kmart. That was fun trying on
gloves with the kids and was about like shoe shopping, ahhh!
I got each kid a nice pair of gloves and a ski
mask hat for 50% off. Still was a little expensive
for my budget but I wanted them to have some
warm Winter attire.
$8 ski hats were $4.00 each and
$17 gloves were $8.50 each.
And of course all this stuffed looked like
it had been ransacked by other people.
We get up to the checkout and there are
only 2 lanes open and about 1o people in
each lane. It's been like this the last couple
of times we've been there. You would think
during Christmas time there would be more
checkouts open. We finally went over
to the service desk and checked out!
----------------------------------------------

Anyone needing that Enfamil Premium for
Toddlers that I posted a $5.00 coupon for above?

12-14-10

6:15am

Rise and shine a little earlier this morning.
My honey had to go into work early
to plow and salt the roads/parking lot.
Made the kids some chocolate chip muffins
with cream cheese frosting drizzle this morning.

Was browsing a few recipes for ham.
Last year I did the orange marmalade glaze
and wanted something different this year.
Here's a few recipes I am considering.
You can use a baking bag to put the ham
in have a moister ham.

Sweetened Baked Ham

You could also add a little honey
mustard drizzled on top of the brown sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 pound) bone-in ham, rump portion
  • 1/2 cup whole cloves
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 cups water, or as needed

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place ham in a roasting pan, and press whole cloves into the top at 1 to 2 inch intervals. Pack the top with a layer of brown sugar. Pour enough water into the bottom of the roasting pan to come to a 1 inch depth. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil or a lid.
  3. Bake for 4 1/2 to 5 hours in the preheated oven (about 22 minutes per pound), or until the internal temperature of the ham has reached 160 degrees F (72 degrees C). Make sure the meat thermometer is not touching the bone. Let stand for about 20 minutes before carving.
--------------------------------

Glazed Ham

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 pound) bone-in shank ham
  • 4 cups water, or as needed
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch ground cloves

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C). Place ham in a roasting pan. Pour in water to a 2 inch depth. Cover with a tight fitting lid.
  2. Bake for 6 to 8 hours in the preheated oven (all day or all night). Remove from the oven, pour off drippings and reserve. Debone ham, removing any excess fat as well, and return to the roasting pan.
  3. Skim fat from the top of the drippings, and discard. In a small bowl, mix one cup of the drippings with honey, brown sugar, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce and cloves. Pour this over the ham, cover and return to the oven. Remaining drippings may be discarded or reserved for other uses.
  4. Bake for another 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
More tips for making a ham:
Combine a can of lime soda with brown
sugar and use to glaze ham.
Add pineapple rings and cherries to ham with toothpicks.
You could also score top of ham and insert
whole cloves.
I don't have whole cloves, nor can I afford them, so
maybe I can add some allspice seasoning to the glaze mix.
No room in oven for a ham?
Try to cook it in a crock pot using the recipes above.
Add a little water in the bottom with liquid smoke.
Watch your time though as it could only take
about 2 hours at the least to warm through
unlike the oven method. Cook too long
and you ham could fall apart. I guess that all
would depend upon if you wanted to be able
to slice it or not.
I think if you wanted to use the crock pot to try
and use one of those boneless hams that
are rectangular in shape. Buy the ones that are not
sliced (might be cheaper) and ask the butcher
if he could slice it for free. I did this last year.
You will have to tell him how thick you would
like it sliced.

Here is a cookie recipe I want to make today.

Chocolate Mallow Clusters from Kraft

.
Chocolate-Mallow Clusters recipe.

What You Need

1 pkg. (8 squares) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate
1 cup JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
1/2 cup crisp rice cereal
1/2 cup PLANTERS COCKTAIL Peanuts
1/2 cup coarsely crushed pretzels
1/2 cup dried cranberries
20 JET-PUFFED HOLIDAY MALLOWS Marshmallows

Make It

MICROWAVE chocolate in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min.; stir. Microwave 1 to 2 min. or until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring every 30 sec. Add next 5 ingredients; mix well.

SPOON into 20 mounds on waxed paper-covered baking sheet, using about 2 Tbsp. cereal mixture for each. Top each with 1 large marshmallow, pressing marshmallow gently into top of mound to secure.

REFRIGERATE 30 min. or until firm.

Kraft Kitchens Tips

Size-Wise
A serving of this sweet treat goes a long way on chocolate flavor.
Variation
Substitute 1-1/2 cups of your favorite trail mix for the nuts, pretzels and cranberries.
How to Store
Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.

I think I'm going to omit the last three ingredients
and just use chocolate, rice krispies, peanuts
and maybe marshmallows to make it.
Don't know why you couldn't make this into
S'Mores clusters and add some
chopped up graham crackers to chocolate
and marshmallows!
Or here's a thought,
use Golden Grahams cereal.
(I think malt o meal has their version also)

From Taste Of Home

S'more Drops Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Golden Grahams
  • 1-1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Spice Island® Pure Vanilla Extract

Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the cereal and marshmallows; set aside. Place the chocolate chips, corn syrup and butter in a 1-qt. microwave-safe dish.
  • Microwave, uncovered, on high for 1-2 minutes or until smooth, stirring every 30 seconds. Stir in vanilla. Pour over cereal mixture and mix well. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Cool. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.

We visited the Goodwill Thrift Store on Morse Rd.
last week and thought I would share this news
with you about this location.

Goodwill Store Moves Down the Road
Customers who shop at Goodwill know they are supporting programs and creating jobs for individuals with disabilities and other barriers.

After 10 years in the Morse Center strip mall, Goodwill Columbus' Morse Road retail store is moving down the road. Thrifty shoppers will only need to travel another mile on Morse Road toward Easton to find this brand new, stand alone Goodwill store.

Besides having a convenient drive-thru for dropping off donated goods, the store has easier street access and better on-site customer parking.

The new 13,000 square feet Goodwill retail store is located in the former Sleep Outfitters building at 2933 Morse Road, just west of Westerville Road and across from the Dennis Hyundai and Kia car dealership.

My honey called to say he's bringing me home
some goodies.
He found a large area rug, he thinks it's
about 9x12', an antique table and a box
of dishwasher detergent. Freebies are good
when you have a limited income!
Check out what my friend Kendra gave me today,
an almost 23 pound turkey that cost
almost $30!! I'm putting it in the freezer
so I'll have it come next Thanksgiving.
Yes they do last that long in the freezer
and have been doing it for several years now.
THANKS KENDRA!!

Here's a coupon for
Buy 2 Get 2 Free Yankee Candles.
The coupons says good at any Yankee Candle stores
or at participating retail stores excluding
outlet stores, Target & Yankee Candle Fundraisers.
I did some searches to see who might
sell these candles and so far I only see Kohls,
Bed Bath & Beyond, and Ulta.
There are two Yankee Candle stores,
Polaris & Tuttle Crossing.
They run about $18-$22 each!
They are pretty expensive but one of the
best scented candles out there.
Paula Dean's are really good also!

I just got more sales ads in the mail today.
I wanted to let you know SearsOutletStore.com

40% off all other brands.

40% off Kenmore high efficiency washers & glass door dryers.
35% off all other brands

40% off all Kenmore Ranges
35% off all other brands

70% off all Mattress and Foundation sets

I didn't even know they had this store!
Or maybe I did but didn't know
it was a marked down store.
Will have to check it out in the near future
since there is one in Northern Light's Shopping Center.

7:30pm

My honey just got home from work!
Then had to go back out due to another page.
Ahhh! Oh well gotta think extra money!

Got about 3 1/2 dozen snickerdoodles made.
To stretch my cookie mixes I've been adding
a 1/2 cup flour to each batch.
For the snickerdoodles I added about
1/4 cup dry gingerbread coffe-mate creamer
to the dough.
Then I added about a tablespoon to the
cinnamon-sugar mixture I rolled the cookies in.

I got the teacher's bags done up and
ready to be taken to school tomorrow.
I put the hot chocolate mugs into the
bottoms of the bags and then filled
the bag with cookies.
And I made a couple batches of
chocolate toffee graham treats.
I threw in some peanuts also to give
it a little somethin' somethin'.
Recipe is found on 11-30-10.
Here I just removed them from the
oven and sprinkled with chocolate chips.
Then once the chips melted you take
a rubber spatula and spread the chocolate over top.
Supposed to put in fridge so that the
chocolate & toffee can harden. But I don't have any
fridge space so might sit outside instead, LOL.
Hey, whatever works!
Let's hope the neighborhood raccoon or cats
don't come for a visit when my back's turned!

a steam mop for Christmas. She tells me yesterday that
she ordered a spin mop off of HSN.
I can't win!
I kept asking her if she didn't like
it if she could return it, lol.
I didn't tell her about the steam mop.

My name is Sherry, 39yrs old, from Columbus, Ohio. I am married, a SAHM, and have 3 children ages 9, 10 and 20. I have been frugal/thrifty all my life. I would like to share on this blog how we get by day to day on one income with a family of 5 with a dog and a cat. You will also hear about my everyday gripes about daily life and the cost of living. Hubby says my favorite saying is, "and that is another thing that pisses me off!"
